The 16-Bit Era Thread

I like it, but I’m of the opinion that it was a mechanic added later in the game’s development since it sort of messes up the enemy placement and level design a bit. It also sort of invalidates the function of the subweapons too as those are meant to make up for the weaknesses the whip has. But in SCVIV, the whip is the best weapon in the game and reaches places that previously only the subweapons could. So I like it, but I see why it breaks the game in some ways.

@crotchpuncha Why don’t you like the Mode 7 levels? Spinning Corridor, Rotating Dungeon? Those are the best man! When 14 year old me saw those levels for the the first time I was like mind asplodes gif

Love the 8-way whip, especially the levels where you swing with it.

@ReoGeoSRK
Rename this rename this thread Retro Gaming thread. What if I want to talk Playstation, Saturn and Dreamcast? Those ain’t 16-bit. Gotta be more inclusive yo.

We already had this one, you neanderthals.

SNES > Genesis

The SNES had two Castlevania games, whereas the Genesis only had one. The Contra game on SNES shits on the Genesis Contra game too.

Check and mate blast process my dick into your moms asshole

Yeah, but everything has already been reminisced upon in that thread.

SNES was the last time Nintendo ruled a generation - unless you count the Wii, but that took the Donald Trump approach, focusing on a different audience.

Yup.
Since then, Nintendo has been lagging behind like crazy.

Like this list is pathetic when compared to other consoles. Those that defend it are stuck with Stockholm Syndrome and don’t realize how good Xb1/PS4/PC have it.

I have a PS4 and a Wii U. Wii U actually gets more play time from me- but that’s mostly because of Super Mario Maker.

SNES was dookie AF, didnt even get Super Hang On.

SOR2 is the BEST beat em up from the 16-bit era. Nothing else comes even close, might even call it the best game the genesis ever had. Yes it’s that good IMO.

Are you a masochist? Seventh saga

Phantasy Star II on Genesis

It has a top tier soundtrack and the smartest ending I’ve ever seen in a video game. It makes every other video game ending look like fucking dogshit that a 7 year old wrote.

If you don’t mind grinding, it’s a must play.

Almost 2 pages until the first mention of “blast processing”… I’m so disappointed with you, SRK…

You can pick a random Konami or Capcom game from the 8-bit and 16-bit era and there’s a 90% chance it’s fucking awesome.

Konami, Square, Capcom and Nintendo were the 4 gods of the 16 bit era.
Hard to find a bad game from any of them.

Oh how the mighty have fallen…

Yea when i first saw them as a kid i was like “WHOAAAOAOAOOOAAAOAO!!!” but as i.played them more i grew to like them less. Thsy tend to induce tons of slow down making repeat plays a little tedious, spinning corridore really isnt that special outside the rotating back round, and i hate the level with the rotating rooms filled with spikes. Just shit loads of waiting for the level to spin the way you need it to. Good old wchool CV design always had this sense of forward progression and momentum amd the Mode 7 levels lack this.

If it means anything i hate Contra IVs Mode 7 levels, its why Sonicabid is wrong about Contra IV being better then Hard Corps.

Blast Processing was a real thing. The Genesis had a faster CPU than the SNES, which is true. “Faster CPU” doesn’t sound as 90’s/awesome as Blast Processing.

Blast Processing > Mode 7.
