Texas Showdown 5 Planning!

Andrew:
You forget I cheat!

DanAdamKOF:
Not so sure about the NeoGeo Pocket thing, I don’t mind if you wanna throw a side event for it, but I’m prob not gonna do anything with em. I’ll keep you posted about the super gun. Thanks for offering =)

Spin4U:
Well, half of the bracket(if not more) came from out of state. The year before KoF2k2 didn’t even draw enough to run a tourney. Its highly doubtful 2k3 will be in the lineup, especially since new KoF’s are coming out.

Cause KOF is a piece of shit series that only losers play cause they can’t play any real fighting games.

Yeah I’d love to volunteer my supergun. Here’s where I show my true nerdiness; it was built for the 2003-2004 Houston Science and Engineering Fair (Science Fair is mandatory for Biology students at my school so I had to make the most of it). Got past school-wide fair but didn’t get a thing at the City-wide fair but who cares. I love the friggin thing, bulkiness and all. I might add it’s wired mostly for Multislot NeoGeo MVS (and coincidentally SVC Chaos which is pin-for-pin compatable with a multislot MVS) so if you’re gonna use NAOMI on this it won’t be so fun (only three buttons (3 from the JAMMA harness since there’s no room for a kick harness; the controllers are 4-button AES controllers). Perhaps if someone builds a JAMMA splitter just for sound and video (I don’t think that allowing for power to be supplied by two power supplies would be good for an arcade PCB) (sound’s not so important so maybe just video), two people can compete on a cabinet and it can also be displayed on a TV/projector and recorded to VHS, computer (via capture card), etc. Just one idea. Of course it could be competed on like an arcade cab.

I have these games:
King of Fighters '98
King of Fighters '99
Mark of the Wolves
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2
Rage of the Dragons
Samurai Shodown IV
Last Blade 2
Art of Fighting 2
Art of Fighting 3
and these non-fighters:
Neo Turf Masters
Metal Slug 1
Super Sidekicks 3
Street Slam
Magical Drop 3

The Universe BIOS modchip would be useful since it could allow for practice and VS mode on games that have it on the home system (it does a crapload of other stuff but this is what I think is most useful for the tourney). If none else then perhaps people can practice on it or have some fights on it unofficially just for kicks.

Of course what I’d love to see is it on a projector! C’mon, UH is a college and it’s gotta have a projector!

As for the Pocket stuff, I guess it’s best to have it be kinda unofficial; it would be hard to set up and keep track of IMO.

(edit: sorry didn’t see above) I hope there’s gonna be KOF '98 there. That and '99 are my two best games IMO (though I dunno if I’m tournament-level). I’d love to see KOF 99 at a tournament. Maybe we can have some other not-so-common/popular games there too… like AOF3, RB2 and LB2.

(edit: since KOF tourneys don’t seem to be too popular, why not make them a reduced fee for entry? Of course the prize money would be less but some people who were hesitant might enter if it was cheap enough… Or did I read that wrong?)

(edit: oh where can I find a full list of the “APEX rules”? I found the big thread by Javi but the Q&A session doesn’t help me much when I don’t know the rules in the first place)

Just tossing around ideas. If this is kinda incoherent or unclear then let me know what I need to clarify and I will.

DanAdamKOF: The whole thing is that SNK games don’t make much of a big following in the US, much less competetively. The other countries play them a lot though, mainly KOF 98 and 2k2, since they’ve been found to be the most viable KOFs competetively. A lot of people who don’t like most SNK games seem to like Garou: MOTW and Samurai Showdown 2, though.

There are a few players scattered around the scene, so hopefully TS5 will get a few players and we can play a few games.

dan speaks the truth…

Yeah I know that but that doesn’t stop me from hoping… I know afterall SRK is a Capcom-oriented. I like Capcom but I’m more into the NeoGeo for various reasons (mostly since it doesn’t suicide :D). Since this probably will be a GG/MVC2/CVS2/TS kind of tournament, I dunno if my supergun would be much use as those are 6-button games that use a kick harness (and I’m not sure how it does sound but I don’t think it’s on-JAMMA stereo like the NeoGeo), maybe the whole JAMMA video splitter thing could work though.

Is my “reduced rate for SNK” idea feasable at all? I know there are people who play the tournament for money though so this might work even worse.

As it is there’s really nothing in this tournament that I can play that well so I’d probally be a techie (think plays) if I end up volunteering for something. I can solder and crimp and I have some experience in JAMMA wiring.

Usually how the way the tournaments work is you have the major tournaments like MvC2, CvS2, 3rd Strike, and GGXX set at $10 entry. All the smaller ones will be set at $5. Depending on what games are out by then, this may change.

Ill more then likely be attending TS5 like i did TS4. Even though it looks like its not going to be at SG (which I wish it would be) then only thing I would say is keep the schedule the way it was last year uh game to day wise that is. If there are any team tournys throw them into friday and keep the same schedule like last year for the 4 major games just adjust to the time issue there was last year with cvs2 taking way too long and other matters such as those. Just my opinion. Hope all goes well and see you all in March.

ADD PUZZLE FIGHTER!!:stuck_out_tongue:

-DJ-

its not a piece of crap game. regards to 2k3. duo lon is as broken and beatable as magneto in MvC2.

But would you have this game out just for fun or something or like adamkof said. reduced fee’s. 16 people is well worth setting it up for. i play 3s and the tekken series but no comp in SA for both of the games.

Will this be on a weekend?

Yes, it will be on a weekend. All major tourneys are in the weekends, so out-of-towners have the time to go back and forth…

Well I guess the good thing about UH is that if you don’t wanna play a game you can do all sorts of other things.

-Shoot pool
-Bowl
-Drink beer
-Eat at Wendy’s from upstairs
-Look at porn on a computer kiosk
-Listen to really annoying techno music and/or Metallica cause that’s all the azn thugs pick from the jukebox

Yeah, sounds great.

I hope they got rid of that DDR machine… highly doubt it though. Hearing “I do, I do, I do” and all those other ridiculous songs over and over can really drive a guy insane

on a sidenote: Harold, i hate ur fucking testament :bluu:

DDR can get on some people’s nerves for it’s constantly loud blaring, but for now it’s one of the machines that most arcades can’t live without. It’s better than the creepy music from that gun gallery game at the galleria. I hate that music so much. It’s like evil, twisted circus music from hell.

and it was fun playing Harold tonight. Man, Vinh, you must’ve been getting beasted! I walked in and Harold was sitting there with a 24 game winning streak, and I KNOW not that many people there play ggxx.

Oh, and Chris, if you get Showdown at UH and it’s arcade, will it be the same machines as the ones now, or will there be other ones? What kind of quality will it be?

this is all i need here…

Guilty as charged :depress: Testament can be such a meanie…

Ok, i see all these requests for all these games that are great games but not alot of comp for it. what i want to know is:

where is TTT? i know theres alot of tekken haters here but seriously. whats a big tourney with no tekken tag? oh, and this would have to be on console cause you know how tekken people get…

thanks!

You should know just as well as most of the Tekken regulars that TiT is the big Tekken console capital of Texas. Generally we don’t draw at all for Tekken.

So it’s #R for TS5, right?
Dang, time to actually play that game now…

:frowning: lies

lol, tekken haters! its discrimination i tell ya! protest:lame:
