Texas Showdown 5 Planning!

Would love for this thread to get stickied, prob won’t cause Javi is a lazy ass!

Anyways, lets start planning for Tx Showdown 5…

Definite Games:
MvC2
CvS2
3rd Strike
GGXX #r

Possible Games:
ST
Alpha 3
Tekken 5
SF AE
SNK games?

More than likely, this event will be held at UH and not Stargate this year due to the size the event has been growing. I know a lot of people have bad views and such towards the UH Games Room, but I’m positive I can get a much bigger venue, more cabinets, and working controls for Showdown.

March 11-13, 2005

2 Day event, given that its still during the school year, the catch…
this year we’re going to try out a pool system kinda like Evo.

Obviously, we’re never going to get as huge as Evo, thank god, so our pool set would probably around 8 pools of at least 3 or even lower it to 4 pools with at least 6 people, depending on the amount of people entered for the tournaments. This would affect only the big draws, MvC2, CvS2, 3rd Strike, and GGXX #r. The pools would be round robin, top 2 qualify for the 16 man bracket that would start after the pools. The difference between ours and Evo is that the 2 qualifiers would start all over, no losses carry over.

If anybody has anything else they’d like to see, suggestions, etc, post up on here or PM me.

I request to play again the top 3 players in the nation my first bracket since thats how it goes down when im in a out of state tournament.

I’m curious, will GGXX #r be on arcade with the rest of the games ( as it seems you still want to keep this an arcade tourney)? I know its pretty difficult to secure #r arcades, so will you just run this on Xbox or try to run it on arcade?

I like the idea of the pool system, round robin I’m assuming like Evo was this year. That way, scrubs like I get more play time in the tourny

I’m looking forward to TS5 (given I won’t be out of the country again like I was at TS4 :p)

Fuck UH. If you hold it there, best bet would to go mostly console.

Chris,
will this be a mainly arcade or mainly console/both tourney? is UH a possible location or one seriously considerd? i like SG and lolicup club set its really fun and the whole open street feel is good.

Ashley:
Its cause they think you’re a girl =P

Andrew:
I’d like to keep 3S, CvS2, and MvC2 on arcade cabs. GGXX #r will be on console as there is no place in Houston that has the arcade boards.

Dan:
STFU and go play Planetside

ShadowCharlie:
As of now, its pretty much a certainty that TS5 will be at UH. SG is getting way too small for the tournament.

Hey if im free that whole weekend i’ll b there to help you run the tournament.

Rent a Ball Room.
then it would be the shit, everybody not at one location = Too good

They Just Cost too Much:(

Chris from the Stargate sent me a link to this thread. Great to see I finally will be informed about this tournament and not find out about it 2 months after it happened like last time. Those of you who go to the Neo-Geo forums probably recognize me.

Anyhow since this will be at UH I guess there won’t be so many cabinets. I have a supergun that I can volunteer though, and a NeoGeo MVS setup (with Universe BIOS 1.3 modchip) with around 15 games. It does S-Video and Composite with MVS-style stereo sound. The controllers are two Neo-Geo console “old-style” joysticks. If you can use this, let me know. I’d love to see this on a projector :).

Any chance of maybe having some different games this time? TS and GG and SSF2T and the like are all great games, but maybe something like Real Bout 2 or KOF 99 or Art of Fighting 3 would be nice to play competitively. I’m really into NeoGeo games and truthfully I’d like to see as many as possible at the Showdown :D.

I’ll be checking up on this thread from time to time, thanks for reading this.

Actually, with me moving Showdown back to UH, I think I can get more cabinets for the major games, and possibly bring in cabinets for other games, like Alpha 3, and other games. Maybe even some Neo Geo cabs. Not sure yet.

I would appreciate any and all help for this tournament!

Wait a minute, is this Chris? In any case the more cabs the better.

Any idea of around what date this will be?

You were probably talking to Chris Wong, aka Cmutt. There are about 4 or 5 different Chris’s that goto SG, I’m one of them.

Were looking at mid-March for a date.

Well you had that darned stargate signature and someone referred to you as Chris, so yeah I kinda assumed you were Cmutt/Chris Wong (is there a members search here?). Chris Wong is the one who referred me here.

Maybe you’ve seen me there, I’m 16 and always wear a white KOF 97 hat and I play the Neogeo machines a lot.

Any word on Lay’s plan to attract “foreign” talent to TS5? I’m in Austin now so I dunno how that’s working out =/

Ranma: i’d be willing to help you run the tournament this year…i wouldn’t mind screaming at random motherfuckers telling them to report to their designated machines  …i also think that it is a GREAT IDEA that you are keeping the tournament scene arcade style…FUCK CONSOLES!!! …but yah, i’d be willing to help out if needed…

Technically, Chris Chou “retired” from this shit a year ago. You just can’t let go can you old man?

I’m old AND senile bitch, get that right. Anyways, I thought I retired from being competitive, I don’t remember. So that means if you lose to me, you really suck.

-tries to forget MWC this year-:frowning:

I’m pretty sure this is a “no”… but is there any chance at all of having some kinda NeoGeo Pocket Color competition, semi-officially?

And please let me know if you’d like to use my supergun setup, I’d love to volunteer it for TS5.

why cant you have KOF2k3 in it like last yr. you had 16 people enter and you can add another 10 to that list from SA. KOF2k3 needs to be known that people from TX can hold there own in that game. TS5 is the place to show that so this game could get more play.

please!!! have KOF2k3 in the bracket please
