Don’t agree with everything Dr. Anderson says but think he makes a lot of good points. “Getting an education and then a job” is only one part of the equation.

I’d started typing a long reply, but instead I’ll just ask, which felons do you believe should be disenfranchised? You know felons aren’t a homogeneous group, I don’t know why you phrased your question like they are, but describe specifically the sort of things you believe should be meted with disenfranchisement?
Because like it or not, those felons still **live **in the USA, and such, polices and laws that effect USA citizens still effect them. Which means they should have a say into it regardless of their historical pedigree. And if we disenfranchise felons for wrong doing, why stop there?

Also i thought convicted felons werent allowed to vote? If they are that shit needs to be repealed. Or make them go through some sort of rehabilitation process to get there right to vote back… Convicted dirtdoers shouldnt have a say on who runs the country… Even if so many of them are “my” people.

I wouldn’t want felons voting, this is to say that i think someone who has committed a crime that is considered “felonious” has endangered or disregarded others in a way that is deplorable. Should someone who has shown such a lack of respect for fellow human beings be allowed to have a say in how we are all treated by the institution set in place to protect and serve us? No. This being said they do have their rights and need to respected as human, i don’t think its really fair to have visits being restricted to exclusively video chat (as they have been in some places near where i reside). Prison is bad enough as is, its goal in my eyes is more to keep society safe rather than to make the inmates lives a living hell.

The main reason we have to let felons vote is because government could start falsely imprisoning people to disenfranchise them. And that would be worse fate than letting felons vote. Therefore although felons should have zero rights, and that’d be awesome… Sadly we gotta give them votes to curb government power

Maybe you should actually get to know some felons, they are human beings whether you like it or not, and human beings have rights that are collectively granted. You don’t cease being human just because you gain the label of “felon”, and not all felons are Al Capone or Jeffrey Dahmer.
So since prisoners should have no rights, you’re fine with them getting raped and killed in prison? You might say something coy about male prisoners getting raped, but I wonder if you’d say the same thing about female felons. Do the guards get to rape them too since felons should have zero rights?
I may be a bit biased, having only worked with scumbag felons like those who knowingly committed statutory rape (35 year old man, 15 year old girl), and crack dealers. I’d like an example of the kinder, gentler felons that are being championed here.
^People fuck up man, no one’s denying that, that doesn’t mean they cease to be human even if they commit felonies, and you’d have to pardon me if I don’t consider people who buy and sell weed for instance, the same as a pedophile or a drug kingpin.

As a note smashing up a mail box with a base ball bat is a felony, not stealing the mail or anything else. Just hitting it with a bat while drunk ruined someone I know’s life.
