Hello Warriors…

I’ve been a lurker of the forums for a while now and an avid fan of Street Fighter games. Im actually trying to set up a little venue for casuals, tourneys and the like… I have access to the Quickly’s shop (a tapioca and asian finger food restuarant) near the Fruitvale bart station located in Oakland. For now, I think I’d feel more comfortable doing casuals until I get a good amount of regulars to start a tourney and money matches.

Its also not restricted to just SSFIV, but I would like it to be exclusively fighting games. At the moment, in terms of set-ups I have the following:

x2 PS3
X1 SFIV
X1 SSFIV
x1 26" CRT
x1 32" HDTV
X1 SE arcade stick

There is a 26" HDTV mounted at the Quickly’s that we might be able to use. We are limited to the back lounge area and maybe one table area.

I would also appreciate help from local heads if they are able to bring their rigs, preferably x2 360, x2 monitors, copies of the game, and sticks? Actually any gear anyone is willing to lend for the day.

I dont want to set a date yet, until I can get a hold of the rigs. I want to run it regularly, but I need to figure out the door charge situation, if any and how long we can run…

What do you guys think? Suggestions?

Well I’d be down to help out.
If it’s fighting games, I can bring out

2 PS2s
Street Fighter 3 (Anniversary collection), CVS2, GGXXAC, and some other random fighters (KOF XI, Alpha, AH…)
No Sticks, but controllers

Wii
TVC, Smash if anyone is interested (Melee or Brawl)
No sticks either, but I have classic controllers

I’m surprised quicklys would do this, I figure there uptight asians

They are uptight, but not all the time and I sortah in aquaintance with the owner. That actually sounds good but looks like your the only one so far… That might attend lol

If no one else attends I might end up sending out flyers and only get the locals in… I might have thought a little more people would attend, but I guess everyone already attends their own hotspot…

It’s not even that dude, your information kind of sucks and you need to be a bit more direct with it. Be specific such as you stating where your region is, for example I’m over in the (925) area code. East Bay isn’t going to cut it, it seems like you might be in the (510) district. Besides Fruitvale isn’t exactly located in the safest neck of the woods if you catch my drift, it’s pretty ghetto and people might just stray away just because of the neighborhoods. I’ll assist you with this so I can help you out with more locals in your extraction point, I have a few connections over there. As for now you might want to update your description of the topic so you can grab everyone else’s attention. Besides I hate to break it to you but all of us know that the economy totally blows right now so you might want to proclaim another explanation of why you want people to visit. I know you want to build your own scene out there, now you just need to add the cherry on top to sweeten the deal. Give everyone a better reason on why you want people to drive all the way to Oakland just to chill and have sessions with you. :wink:

P.S. My apologies if I come off sounding like a dick, I’m just the brutally honest type.

Hello. I’ve also been lurking the forums for a long while. I live in the Oakland area as well, so I’d be quite glad to come to this. As for gear, I don’t own any arcade sticks, but I have a Wii, PS3, PS2, along with plenty of fighting games; old and new:

Thats more like it… seeing the response on this thread is what I’m looking for, whether its help or brutal honesty… my “experiment” is valid. My “testing” is to see if anyone is interested in a place to play around this area. A rough count if you will… I believe I stated that it was a Quickly’s near the fruitvale bartstation… if I’m not mistaken I think theres only one?

You have to excuse me if I come out being vague. I’ve been running small casuals at my house and I think its time to move to a slightly bigger area, for me and my family’s sake. The use of the facility is being loaned to me out of courtesy of the owner. Of course I want to make sure his business is also being taken care of. I don’t want random idiotic behavior to break out in his establishment. So I tend to not divulge any detailed information until I need to.

I would like to start a casuals, tourney etc… environment at 1243 33rd ave Oakland , CA. All your points are valid, especially about security. My buddie and I will not only host but pull armed security…lol, not to mention I’ve asked a favor from my OPD friends and family to come hangout with us (for the customers AND players). I really didnt want to label the area as “bad” until everyone experiences and checks it out for themselves. Fortunately the area is relatively safe, near the bartstation (bart police) and near heavily traffic areas.

Building a scene is great and all but I didn’t expect a Starcade or a Eudemon… I really wanted to pull the locals around my area that frequent SRK, a place to play. I also didn’t expect someone from SJ or Milipitas or what not to drive all way here… No matter what people think of my intentions, I have a stable job and a family I love to death… I eventually will let my buddie take reign once I establish a “scene” and hopefully by then I’ve made a few friends to invite over to my house away from the crazy public scene.

Talking with the owner, Friday and the weekends is game with him. Quickly’s is open from 10 am to 6 or 7 pm (depending on how dark it is). I want to plan it for 12 noon till closing. I don’t want the players disrupting customer flow.

Come on Oakland is not that bad…(okay maybe it is, but I think I’ve been there enough to where I can stay out of possible trouble)
And really I think thats setting some awkward standards, sure its nice to do all those things you’ve stated, but it’s borderline anal.
Really, there are other threads on here where its just “hey meet up in the 925 for session” (not literally, but thats about all thats really stated). And there’s really no “economic” value of those either, its just chill sessions. Like what are we talking about? Gas? Well that’s really for yourself to decide, no matter how much the TS can sell something if you cant afford to go out there…you cant.

I live near MacArthur Bart on WestMacarthur next to the highwawy exit there sandwiched between san pablo and market.

i can maybe bring a 360 and a samsungt240

If I do come, I can bring all of my gear to your first get together but if its a regular thing i dont know about the monitor. its big enough to be a hastle for doing often you know to box up everything and move it to the car, etc. but definitely will on the occasion if I can make it.

also i can bring two 360 sticks (a TE with seimitsu parts and a Qanba with Sanwa) and two copies of ssf4 for 360.

If it’s going to be a big event and you really need an extra one in the future, I can borrow a friends 360 perhaps but not another monitor.

As far as incentive…it IS oakland…but since its not a home or anything you can’t really let people kick back drinking or smoking so that’s probably going to be a neg at least on my terms.

Just PM me or post here as far as updates go. Also, you and maybe one other person are welcome to come by for casuals even though you’re a little bit further down the freeway. Regardless it’s close in terms of relativity. it seems like there are a lot of players in norcal but just really spread out in the 510, but I’m new to the FGC so that’s just my impression. I also live with a bunch of people but they’d be cool with it. Drinking/smoking allowed. This is just if you’re bored or something I’m always looking for people in oakland to chill and play super with (currently learning MVC2) just up and down the 80 like el cerrito, berk, richmond, etc.

PS the 925 is a yuppie hell hole. livermore and the rest of that place can burn as far as I care. no personal offense meant southpaw, one of my best friends was from Lafayette and I have great memories of hanging out with him out there, just being you know honest while the subject is up. lol.

Fruitvale station would be your Stop mayne…

Yes the fruitvale bartstation is your stop. From there you would walk to 33rd which is a block away and your destination would be on your left.

Well this all sounds great and I’m definitely on for some training sessions as well. Personally, I’ve been wanting to get more into fighters, but there wasn’t many opportunities. All my friends who are into fighters live in the 925 area and are pretty far from where I live. Is there a specific date in which we’ll be starting?
