Testing the Waters... (East Bay)

I’ve set February 4 as the Quickly cherry popping date… as far as regularity of the sessions, that depends on the turnout, customer requests, owner permission…etc. Personally, whatever you guys ask for, I would like to accomodate.

I will be contacting you fellas that were willing to help, that we might meet up before hand and set up before opening…

I also will be creating a registration form for everyone to download, fill out, and submit at the time of entry for an accurate head count and property insurance purposes.

That’s pretty hardcore dude, it sounds like fun! :bgrin:

I’m down to come by. But I don’t have any set ups to bring.

No body is required to bring anything… just come by, have some drinks, play some matches, kick it and chat…

balls, Feb 4 is the second week I’m back in school… well ill still try to come out, from san jose though

wow tyuhhi! Do you live here in the east bay and go to school in the south bay? Sorry for the inconvenience… didnt know you commuted…

well im originally from the east bay (concord), but i go to sjsu now and i live out there. its break right now though, so im staying with my parents…and during any other breaks, i also stay in here usually.

its so hard to do anything when i come back though lol… in san jose i can go to SJSU’s arcade and golfland and both are a short drive. but from where i live in concord its like a 30-40 minute drive to the nearest arcade (not counting Qzar, place sucks so much)

if this was on a saturday i would probably swing through

I am flexible. I want to figure out more peoples opinions on which day and what time… suggestions?

Friday is a good day, you’re best chances would have to be that or on the weekend since school is back in session for a lot of people right now. We can make a vote on a consecutive date if that isn’t too much trouble? To be on the safe side I would just decide on whatever date suits you the best since it’s your event.

I may swing by if time allows. I’m sure it’s been mentioned, but the Quickly is actually literally one or two blocks away from the Fruitvale BART station. I know the owner, so I’ve visited a few times. I mean if you’re used to things looking really nice, then that’s on you, but I don’t feel like I’m in danger lol. Many people hear “Oakland” and are all hesitant, but really, Oakland is huge. This particular area isn’t too bad at all.

Anyways, always glad to see gamers get together to do what they love. Hope to see some of you there.

If Friday is going to be too much trouble for everyone, I can do Friday and Saturday, I might as well throw in Sunday as well…lol

True, I am hosting it, but it is far from my event. Lets just say I’m the gate keeper, but it is everyones arena…

well if its on saturday ill swing through (cause of work from 8-430 on fridays). how many lagless TVs (asus monitors or CRTs) you planning on running there?

I only have 1 CRT… I have a few monitors available, as far as lag is concerned, not too much of a difference. Unless anyone can help out with lagless screens or CRT’s?

OLD DOG, PM me your number so we can keep in contact that way.

BTW, you really should re-read my post. I offered to bring what I can there…BUT…

you guys should seriously consider coming out to SFSU…their setup is great. A big room, potlucks, CRT’s xboxs, PS3’s Wiis, all good and fun. Great crowd too, mainly the guys from the Berkely group and the SFSU kids. It’s all already setup just hitup our thread and let us know youre coming.

I have room for four other people and live in Oakland, so carpooling is a definite possibility. I can also save on gas this way!

I am doing this every weekend Sat but sometimes Sun as well. So you guys should really considering coming out there. As much as I like having a place to consistently go to (Berkely is going to be my local spot for now) and supporting Oakland, there really is a good crowd of East Bay people at the SFSU thing so I recommend you all coming wtih me this Sat and checking it out.

So as far as this thing going, if you really want to set this up and keep it in the 510, let me know and I can assist Fri or Sunday. Most likely not Saturday, but things could change.

Also, if its only going to be one monitor plus mine I’m not sure if I’m going to come. Like I said SFSU already has a lot of their shit together and its just a matter of showing up. I can take 4 people, but I’m sure some of you drive too. Two monitors and maybe 5-6 guys is okay, but anymore than that I’d rather just go to SFSU.

All other days are no go since I work and I’m assuming most of you do as well, so weekends are obviously going to be best for everyone.

So yeah just keep us all updated I suppose.

Ive known about SFStates scene… been wanting to check it out, but I dont feel like paying the fee… maybe once in a while is kool. I’d rather keep it local and keep costs to a minimal for all the guests. I didnt want other players to deviate from the respective scene. For me its just a convenience, I dont want people to commute to Quickly’s if they dont have to. Its kool when people from 510 think to themselves wish there was a place to hangout and get a little matches in… thats what I want to provide.

As far as gear is concerned… just another convenience for me if people can help out…lol I have a few more CRT’s, but they’re ginormous… I have ready access to 3 PS3’s 2 360’s 2 wii, pairs of controllers for all 3 systems, but I am missing a few key games. I also dont want to haul all that gear just in case maybe 8 people show up, lol. If people can help out bringing a few things especially their fav games and controllers, we can divide and conquer this situation. I would like everyone to take note that, this is a Quickly not a full lounge like SFState…lol I dont think we can accomodate a high volume of people or gear (I wish we could).

I’ll take you up on that offer soon, I really do want to check out states scene.

SFSU weekly dojo is actually free of charge as it’s being sponsored by the university (also, I’m pretty sure you could fit like 100 people in the area space that they give us, which is pretty ridiculous).

(last time, we did a potluck… you could’ve fed an army with the amount of food that we brought; there was like 15-20 people there, but we didn’t finish the food at the end of the day and had to bring all the extra stuff home)

The main problem of the thing for a lot of people though is that, if you drive or if you’re not in the general area, you do have to either pay for bridge toll or BART fare (from El Cerrito Plaza, this is roughly a $14 round trip, I think).

So, depending on people’s area, it still might actually be cheaper to come down here, so it’s good that we have multiple scenes in the bay area that are cheap to get to.

That being said, whenever you guys have this set up, we at the Berkeley scene will likely pop in once or twice in order to show support.

Friday nights would be best for me. I usually go to SFSU on Sat, and Sundays I can probably make sporadically.

im so down. anything in the bay and casual is good for me. kinda broke now and gas/food or beer is really all i can afford. im lookin forward to this getting set up and i might have a few others along w/me. oakland isn’t too far from milpitas so thanks for the bay area push!

heh xephonn… if youve been looking for shit i have sessions at my place in san ramon (about 30 min from milpitas) bi-monthly (unless other shit comes up). we usually have around 8-12 peoples roll through.
