wtf are you guys serious? half of you were in the aion thread. do you guys never learn? korean MMOs are fucking steaming piles of garbage. i recall the aion thread. the first few pages, everyone was all excited for the game. when it released, everyone was having a blast. then it slowly but surely dawned on everyone that the game was badly flawed. innocent questions popped up: why so much RNG? why does aerial combat suck? why is the pvp designed around zerging and ganking? momentum was lost, and thus began a long, slow, monotonous grind, tanking and spanking the same unengaging bore-me-to-tears AI. those who were lucky to hit 50 (or unlucky?) realized the endgame content was nonexistent, all that existed was EVEN MORE GRIND. in fact, the grind to 50 is a picnic compared to the grind after 50. bots will proliferated, and the constant banning fucked up the economy more badly than hilary scott doing a DP + deepthroat scene. yet the bots kept coming back because drop rates are too low and the game is too boring post 30. and somehow you think it will be different with TERA? the fucking thing looks like an aion clone, hell i coulda sworn i saw a sin in the trailer dual wielding.
here’s what’s gonna happen to this thread. the first 10-20 pages is going to be lots of hype and anticipation. on game release, everyones gonna be creaming themselves over how gorgeous the game is. then like all men who date a bimbo, they realize that while the sex is great, maintaining a relationship with an insipid moron is not fun. after the disillusionment, there will be many pages of QQ, and then the thread dies. then, A NEW MMO will come out, perhaps blade and soul, the new NCSoft one, and you suckers will fall for it again, hook, line, sinker.
PS, i am 46 on aion, and while i originally wanted to hit 50 before quitting, i just don’t think i’m mentally strong enough. i’m taking a break, not sure if i’ll stay. games only fun when you are drunk off your ass on double xp with your friends, invading heiron, and drunkenly attacking people who are just trying to level up, and somehow winning.
The reason that most folks are excited is because of the real-time combat system, I would think.
No more, “click a button and even if the other guy gets six miles away before you use the move it still hits!!!” bullshit.
yeah that’s nice. didn’t age of conan promise a “real time” combat system? and isn’t that game dead? and that game isn’t even korean. tera will be garbage. its made by the devs who worked on lineage, which was yet another hideous grind fest.

And I thought I’d mention that the “grind” in Aion you hate so much isn’t even really that bad. Don’t ever play PSO or PSU, you’ll never make it.

Its intent is to dramatize the political system in which players elect “Exarchs” into office who are supposed to then actually be in charge of governing the in-game community. In this case, shit goes horribly wrong with the Exarch turns out to be a douche and terrorizes the TERA community, so some players rise up and oust him…and suddenly gigantic monster hand. I’m stoked.
Initial reservations: Expecting early exarchs to make a good attempt at playing the role, only to give way to assholes who give perks to their special interests…this could ruin the game, but in awesome fashion.

the grind in aion was a result of the game being boring and monotonous, not because it had steep xp requirements. i’m a casual player, so it took me about a year to hit 50. my first online rpg was a MUD, medievia, and it took me two years to hit max level, difference being that game was far more enjoyable.
i’m still playing aion casually, they raised the cap to 55, currently 53. in its current state, there is no grind, as quest xp rewards have been at least doubled in some cases, with campaign quest being quadrupled even, and money is easy to make. it only took over a year of QQ from westerners and 99% of the western player base quitting.
i predict a similar fate for TERA. already LFG trolls on AION are proclaiming TERA the next big thing. its so funny, those who don’t study history are doomed to repeat it. every new MMO is supposed to be the WOW killer, but of course what always ends up happening is everyone plays for a few months out of curiosity and quits to go back to WOW. since this is a korean MMO i imagine it will have abyssmal drop rates and a bore me to tears grind that only an asian would enjoy.
These games don’t have to be WoW killers. They could just be different. Nothing is killing WoW but Blizzard themselves.
I’d probably still be playing Aion, except they banned me for no reason with their handy-dandy “sophisticated bot tracking system” AKA “we don’t want to employ real GMs” and wouldn’t explain to me why. And I REALLY didn’t care enough to start over, especially since I had full Daevanion gear + weapon, was level 44, and had finally started to get decent rares.
Then again, I would have quit anyway considering the severe nerfing all melee classes got in 1.9, Assassins especially (although I hear they’re godlike in 2.0 again next to Gladiators, LOL NCSoft)

Now that the closed betas have started and people probably touched on the game, even if it’s only up to lvl 27, what do people think?
Also, screw all the “WoW killer” claims. I’m fine with playing this game for a month or two and then quitting if it is lacking end game. If I had fun for that length of time it was worth the money.
