Tennessee Thread - Where mixups are cheating

Who ready for Hasting’s tonight?!

Um, hi. I’m from Tennessee.
I have a question about the Saturday event- do I need to bring my own controller? If so, which can I use?

Who’s ready for Play-n-Trade tonight?!

Nobody? Sounds about right.

It’s going to be on 360. So, just about everything is legal. Controllers with turbo are okay, but using the turbo is not.

Cool! I just use a standard controller.

I got the new converter from etokki and i must say that this one is less bulky and is well worth the $20 i paid for it. Also i do not have to carry around a wired 360 remote.

i’m ready to spectate Marvel…

Poop butt? lol? I enjoy the stuff I have, and I shouldn’t have to go upgrade what I have because Sony says so. I’d rather just watch upscaled DVDs. Sorry, you can laugh all you want, but I still enjoy what I have.

It’s all about who you know too. Yes, he was a strong MvC3 player (I say “was” because I haven’t seen him in forever on anything), but I think his general skills in various games from the past helped a little too. I feel like he’s outclassed now, especially in Marvel.

Cody mashes out breaks, that’s why he started using korean to disguise it as just “stick noise”. Furthermore he knows every start-up animation for the first few frames of every single grab in the game. And for the ones that aren’t quickly distinguishable he…mashes and prays under his breath. Yea.

EDIT: If you’re trying to make something of this, Cody just has good reaction and when you play for so long you learn to look for certain stuff, grabs being one. And you can clearly see the arms sometimes, especially if they’re are ill-placed. There are many times I anticipate grabs, see the arms, and get thrown anyway because I didn’t react fast enough. Hell, I see plenty of shit in matches that I can’t/don’t do anything about because my reactions and execution are ass tier.

Long post short, being good at it depends a great deal on being able to break throws. But some people who place reasonably well in tourneys still can’t break them consistently. It’s very important though because if someone sees you can’t break, it’s nothing for them to start grabbing you repeatedly and then what? You can’t just hope to mash out or duck anytime someone rushes you. Likewise, you have to fight an opponent differently who can break fairly well. When Sev started seeing shit and breaking grabs it took away alot of the bullshit I could use to close our matches. And it’s gonna be the same way if he plays anyone in a tourney, top player or whoever. If they see that he breaks grabs they’re gonna have to respect him for that, if they do nothing else. And it takes away a tool in their game and they’re forced to use other options or simply place the few grabs they’ll use extremely well.

NOBODY breaks 100% though. It’s impossible. SF players probably are the best throw breakers too. It’s almost proven. Y’all be focused like mad and looking at shit.

What converter is that? I hate carrying around an ugly wired 360 pad too. (But much love to Chris F. for the hook-up.)

Oh…yea…not at Fight Night because my feet hurt and I smell like dog shit that sat in a toolbox for too long. Destroy any Minions in all games though.

Shut-up Sir Slawness and get your ass up to Hasting…but wash up first.

Fuck ya’ll, I’m laid up. About to eat, then watch a movie or something. Make sure you get a set in with Sev and Abe. Each battle strengthens the soul of…WASTING. Especially if you f+2. At all.

That is the converter. It now has a built in chip that bypasses the Xbox security.

FlyMike, www.etokki.com has a newer version of the 360 converter with NO wired pad needed and no wild setup option stuff…I just got a pair of them today and will test them for latency at the arcade when I can…

Astaroth: Sometimes even if people “know” somebody it still doesn’t correlate to high levels of skill…everyone has to come from some type of background and even Justin is not immune to his old school haunts of being an 11-12 year old in the early Eddie Lee shadows in New York City…there’s a BUNCH of people that know Justin, Ricky, etc, but it is obvious that Floe would get better hanging out with Justin a lot…same reason why Marn leveled up as well, but he was doing fine as a Guilty Gear sort of 3s player back when he lived in Houston…it’s a shame though, you don’t have anyone out “here” that you can play MVC3 with on a regular basis. I am guessing by saying Luis and Patrick and Arson and Phil and Jacob Sparks are the best players within 100 miles to play with in MVC3 but I could be wrong…

Oooh that looks sleek. Might have to cop later.

Yea, that stuff got a bit frustrating sometimes. Let me know how well you think it works.

Yeah but people wanted to watch analog TV still and had to get converter boxes…it has to do with technology and the times and cost effectiveness.

But I think people are reading too much in to that. This is with a different model of the system and I am positive you can’t just use AV cables and not Component. It’s the SAME connection spot, wouldn’t make sense technologically so I think you and kotaku read that wrong. All it means is you can’t go past 480i Component quality like on a Trinitron…heck it might still work up to 1080i and just not go to 1080p but they aren’t dropping support on the cables themselves, just full HD won’t work correctly if anything…but they will still work with better quality than AV.

No Tekken tonight, Josh is killing everybody in SF4, and Lil Majin is about to win the MvC3 ranbat…the world is in a dark place lol.

That’s kind of what I was trying to say, you just worded it much better. Personally though, I feel like Floe got sponsored for his past skills. Again, I haven’t seen much from him recently, and when I have, he’s choking. Has he been doing AE stuff that I’ve missed or something???

Still hosting Saturday, need an idea of how many people are coming. let me know if you think you might show and if you can bring a setup.

This is my fault a family thing came up and I couldnt make it. Next week for sure though.

Sweet, looking for some tourneys around here.
