Ok, now that I’ve seen the competition I’ve identified 3 ways in which I can improve myself (for training purposes). I will fix.
sometimes fireball -> teleport mixup whiffs because the opponent was pushed under midair dhalsim resulting in a free combo against dhalsim. I’m going to be using back+MK instead of back+FP in my BNB as I came out of the air. b+MK can cross up and will hit the opponent no matter what side i’m on. If I mess up the direction (they get pushed under me) regular MK will still hit and sill combo. Slight reduction in damage in order to not be punished severely. In addition, MK doesn’t push the opponent back as much so i can follow up with cb.MK (which hits low) on the ground instead of b.MK and still have the flame connect just fine. Overall with these adjustments the combo is much more safe and reliable in poor conditions.
I’m going to really work harder to hit confirm flame into ultra. It’s fine if i’m doing the bnb because i have a long time to see that a hit registered. However, there’s many situations in which i am doing a b.MK to get the opponent off me when i could do a flame cancel afterwards with potential for a super punish if they try to poke. Plus, hit confirm practice is always beneficial.
cb.MP -> cb.MP -> LP flame (hit confirm to super cancel) or EX flame (damage).
The thing I am trying to work on most is just improving reactions. Or more specifically training myself to look for certain things more to allow my limited reaction times to be able to handle a given situation.
Yang. I can’t play Akuma online because if I do it just makes me worse. I start mashing the throw button any time anyone gets within sweep distance, frame traps are basically pointless, etc. I am just playing Yang online to figure out match ups and get my Yang play ‘cleaner’. He’s a lot of fun, and more work than I thought he would be, for sure.
Sagat is my main project, like said above he’s more work than I thought he would be and im trying to get really good at not super easy gief anti air, the problem is now im scared to do a lot with him because im afraid theyre going to jump and whatnot.
PC gamers - my PC gaming ability may be changing real soon…I will keep you posted. I am well versed in the ways (and games) of Steam. That is I not to say I am good at them, but to say that if there is a Steam game that matters, I probably have it.
Shawn - that’s awesome man. I am glad you were able to play. Seems like a cool group of people. But man, I watched that vid Patty posted, and I’m not trying to sound cocky or anything here, but I think our strongest players could go toe to toe with MBR. I’m not saying we’d destroy him or that he doesn’t seem good, just that I think we can play on that level.
Re: What I am working on - I am really trying to focus on matchups. Also, my mental composure has reared it’s ugly head again. It seems to go hand in hand with unfamiliar matchups. When I am playing a matchup I don’t like, I play *worse, *which is NOT how you should play an unfamiliar matchup. I do more unsafe stuff, I get unpatient…I basically just play like a dick. So, I am trying to really hammer out matchups and expand my knowledge in hopes of ridding myself of that anxiety. That and practicing execution always.
