**iQuick **- When I first showed up during Hiryu’s initial gatherings at Power Play they had about 8-10 people. I remember him posting here on SRK about it and being surprised at some of the ridicule he got. *“No one is gonna gather in Memphis”, “…a memphis guy could have a tourney nextdoor to their house and would rather sit at home playing ranked matches online”, and “…its not gonna work”. *
He stuck with it though. If its possible to find old ass threads from over a year ago, you’ll find that every wednesday for MONTHS, he advertised on SRK. I’m sure he also did his best to try to spread information about his SF gatherings through word of mouth. It took over a year, the good fortune of meeting just the right poeple, and a lot of perseverance to have our scene grow like it did.
Just stick with it. There were 23 people that signed up for that Play n Trade tournament you and I were in a few months ago. You should try to hunt those guys down and try your best to get some of them to come out. It doesn’t even have to be at a venue. Exchange numbers and invite them to your house or something. It’ll be slow in the beginning. With time and patience, I’m sure you can build up a solid foundation to start a community…
Yeah, I remember those days, lol. It seems really weird when you look at how big the scene is now, how much effort and grief I expended to start it. I even called YOU, Jan, and I remember you couldn’t show up at first because you were going to the Memphis game! And yes, there’s even someone here who shall remain nameless that I remember very clearly telling me all of the above, how it would never work. And I smile a secret smile when I see this dude on the occasions he comes out to fight night. But yes, perseverance, networking and having a thick skin is very important, especially in the beginning.
we should have more than one SF setup. the last few weeks there have been like 7-8 people trying to play SF on one setup (2 last week thanks to jan). i’m gonna try to find a LIGHTER, more portable CRT to start bringing too. not bringing this 500 pound monster to hastings every week.
Well… If we get through the 2 rounds of the ranbat quick enough, we can swap mine back to SF for casuals. That will leave us with 3 setups for the ranbat… Doesn’t matter to me, since I won’t get to play much anyways because I’ll be running the ranbat.
Look if people want to play SF then bring a set up to play it on. We have a limited amount of people that bring set ups EVERY week and like Squab set we only need “all of them”, and I dont think that includes Lycan’s, for the first two rounds of the ranbat.
You can get CRT’s pretty cheap off craigslist if anyone is seriously thinking of buying one for an additional setup. I plan on buying a setup once I start back working dedicated just to fight night since we usually run kinda low.
I’m going to try my hardest to make it tonight to support the ranbat. Lycan I sent you a message over AIM so check my good sir when you get the chance!
Oh damn, that’s a good deal! The Island of Dr Ned alone is worth the price of admission.
The only problems is that I have no idea if I’d even play it if I bought it again. I played the hell out of it on 360, and think I may have had my fill.
But really, if anyone hasn’t played this game yet, that’s an amazing deal. It comes with four DLC packs valued at $10 apiece.
edit: There’s been an announcement regarding an SRK server move and forum software change. If you like your avatar, you’d better save it now or it will be gone once the switch happens. On the bright side, we’re getting 200x200 avatars, which is larger than the current premium size!
So I just got some pretty awesome news after my Live Studio Production class got out today. I was asked to write a script and find a co-host for Austin Peay State University’s very own gaming review television show. Something similar to “X-Play” without Adam Sessler ruining it with his stupid face. It’s going to me be and the hottest chick I can find from the Communication Dept at APSU who will actually want to do it.
This is only the pilot though, but if it goes well I’ll have a regular time slot on Tuesday/Thursdays every week on our local cable station starting next semester.
So with that being said: What do you guys look for when you watch those kinds of shows?
Reviews that don’t buy in to ridiculous amounts of marketing hype and give actual honest opinions about games. Also when rating something, please do it out of 10 (or use halves if you use the 5 scale).
Material that comes straight from the editors/writers/developers is always more important than talking about “rumors”.
I’ll let you know if I think of anything else. But congrats and good luck!
Ugh, I just found out that xenforo (the new forum software SRK is switching to) doesn’t support animated avatars. That fucking sucks. I’ve learned that my avatar has become synonymous with my name, and I even had customers PM me during Christmas saying “I couldn’t find you because you changed your avatar!”
hot chicks, guns, booze, fire trucks, battleships, Duke Nukem, mustaches, hatchets, wrestling, and basically anything else that makes life worth living.
Establish your rating system for the viewer during the first episode have it make sense and stick with it. If you have a scale from 1-10 not all of your reviews should be rated 5-10 looking at you gamespot.
Also will you be revieing games only you have played or is there a group of you?
If there’s a SSFIV ranbat with money I’ll drive up from starkville with a setup. I don’t care if it’s only a dollar. Need to know by 4:30-5pm to make it in time. Hell I’ll run it even, with less than 12 people and two setups I can finish that shiz in like an hour or less.
Uhhh, yes it does. I go to 8wayrun all the time and we’ve been on xenforo since beta.
Plenty of folks with gif avatars over there. Though, I’m not sure if that’s because of Jaxel and his constant tweaking of the site or not.
