Yeah and I think a lot of that is just how people are raised out here…I’ve seen so many so called “Christians” just act like imbeciles. The best part is that as racist as people are out here against people, they forget Jesus is not exactly Caucasian, LOL…that’s a good kicker when people call everyone terrorist and the n word…

I think it’s going to be Super and AE characters only, not “Vanilla” SF4, that might cause heart attacks with Rufus and Sagat stuff happening.

I still think some people will use AE characters because to be honest hardly anyone in the US has messed with the characters yet so people are just taking Japanese opinions on too many things.

The only things I know are:
Yun is clearly the best character in the game, he only has a few matchups that give him problems, but 3 dive kicks and the 50/50 when you are down mixups as well as stand strong as footsie that leads into a knockdown clearly make him the best. Even the uninformed “Zangief” beats him doesn’t play into this. You can’t footsie Yun or jump at Yun with Gief. You need to fight fire with fire and Rufus works well as does Evil Ryu (because of the damage), T. Hawk, Makoto, and Sagat…everyone else either goes even or he wins outright.

Yang is NOT as good as everyone thinks. His dive kicks and mixups are not as good as Yun’s. He may be able to do crazy damage off of low forward into Rekka but he can’t stand strong like Yun can and it doesn’t lead to silly stuff unless you have Seibu Super. Good character, but not top 3.

Honda AE version has a ground headbutt that goes through all projectiles (Sagat) and everyone else’s except for Jab (think Ryu, Ken, etc, not sure about Akuma red fireball) ground invincibility was tweaked, so if you anti air with EX, this just causes things to be changed slightly. Damage nerf not that big of a deal, depends on the “moves” you do as most of the damage nerf and jump strong situation were to fix the hitbox (not really a nerf) and the Sumo Slam damage.

Cammy AE depends on how well you chain combos. She’s very ground oriented in AE but still formidable, that is more of a gameplay style especially now that FP connects into combos (standing far)

Obviously there are some “broken” things fixed that people would run back to:
Blanka ball being safe (FP)
Rose’s U2 being invincible completely allowing for two a match
Cammy’s instant air dive kick is a bit much
etc

But there are “some” benefits to using other characters. In Super Turbo the idea to use an old character meant you were not able to tech throws but that was mainly because SSF2 did not allow throw teching, SSF2T introduced it but I think that it’s going to be an interesting hybrid of people using both versions. At least it gives people an opportunity to fight again Yun a lot more (and as much as people say Fei Long is clearly the best in AE from Japan’s point of view let me remind everyone that yes, his Fire Rekkas are plus frames now, but his RH chicken wing invincibility is gone. If Fei Long was “so good” he would not be complex to use and everyone here would use him and Balrog or Bison it up (easier characters) but you have to know your matchups and your characters. He may be a tank, but taking one thing away and giving him another doesn’t completely change the tier scale…there are lots about AE people don’t know and I think since only a few people have played the game here in TN still there is a lot of hearsay about it…

Just use ELF from now on, problem solved.

Fun story… My wife was picking up my daughter from school. She mentioned that we were moving to a parent of a child in Serena’s class. The lady asked to where were we headed. My wife responded, “to the Netherlands.” The kind lady said, “Where is that exactly? Is that in Tennessee?”

Keep in mind that my daughter goes to probably the highest rated elementary school in the Nashville area.

I use to hide it a lil bit but now Im completely honest and open about it. Surprisingly, when I tell people about how I get together with friends to play or travel for tournaments, they say how cool and fun that sounds. A few years ago, just the thought of letting people Im meeting for the 1st time know about my fighting game hobby was terrifying. Especially with me being a black guy and all. I already get looked at kinda funny for not being interested in the stereotypical stuff like sports, drugs, mainstream rap, and “hoes”. Most people think Im from out of town just from how I carry myself. So you could imagine the anxiety I feel when I tell people that Im a competitive gamer.

Play N Trade MK9 tournament April 23 at 6pm. I went there today (Murfreesboro) and the tourney will be on 360, BUT the TVs are STILL a bit wtf, so giving everyone a heads up on that as they had the MK9 demo up but there is a delay on it (PS3) when playing, so combos will not work the same, $10 entry, $100 store credit to the winner. I know at least 3 of us right now are heading over there…I don’t plan on entering, just there to get the word out to come to Game Galaxy for MK9 comp.

I always thought this, but figured I just hadn’t played AE enough. I think the main reason Yang is considered top 3 in Japan is he has a small advantage in the Yun match-up, and right now has few bad match-ups. Really, those lists from Japan were just players saying things a week and a half after the game was released, without discussing it and taking everything into account. He’s very good but he can’t use his target combo as a footsie tool, and his footsies in general are kind of doo doo. His mix ups are pretty predictable, outside of the obvious dive kick stuff. I think the only thing keeping him from being as good as Yun is that they didn’t make his command dash as crazy as it was in 3s, just because they were a little hesitant to make it too nuts. That and his damage isn’t there like some characters.

I still wanna main him.

Nah, it’s not really worth the trip to come all the way out here. The guy that owns the place really doesn’t promote the event and I might be inadvertently causing people to not want to come anymore.

A couple of weeks ago a I had a guy literally yell at me because I just play footsies and zone in ssfiv. He said, it doesn’t take skill to just stand back and punish whatever he does. And in Marvel, he does this fake yawn thing when I do a OTG combo with sentinel or OTG level 3 with dormamu into purification xx chaotic flame, or a zero sougenmu loop. It’s just like… people around here whine and bitch about the way I play.

Basically they just want me to blindly rush them down, with no thought put into my play style or not punish their repeated assist with a Xfactor’d Genmu Zero lv 3. Teleport tricks with dormamu or instant overhead combos with ammy are all “Cheap” and “gay.” These fight nights make me wish I lived in the 'Boro or Antioch or even Memphis.

The part that’s worse about this place is that if you’re not playing fucking Black Ops, you’re not a gamer. People will come into the store during a fight night and be like “Oh yeah, dude I can whip your ass.” and I’ll invite them to play a few rounds with me and I beat them, very badly, I’ve even perfected a guy… In Marvel. He say’s “Dude, you’re just fucking lucky” and then leaves with this big ass chip on his shoulder. And I’m like, “If you’re interested in playing this game with us, we meet every Wednesday night from 5-9.” and he’s like “I don’t play fighting games, they’re fucking stupid. Well, soul Calibur is cool.”

And I’m like… RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!

How hard is it to build a FG community in a city with 200k people? It feels like a mission impossible.
