Tennessee Thread-" Where All of Your Friends Get Killed by Death-Adder" "

Another player is back in town (Numez) so that’s another marvel / ssf4 player .

In all of the AE stuff I have seen I dont see the argument that defensive style of play was taken away. Granted the dive kick fighters all play really offensive and thats a lot of what you see in online vids but you mean to tell me Honda, Rog, Bison ect can no longer play any defense? Hell as AE been out long enough to say its less balanced than super?

Being able to pick the best version of your char is only going to help the part of the cast that got “big” nerfs. Cammy/Honda/AK ect. Several of the lower tiered group barely got enough buffs to compete with the nerfed upper group. Now even with the better versions Vega/Gen/Cody/Guy/Juri/Sak wont compare. Its basically like playing super with Yun/Yang. And if they want to make it about best versions put vanilla versions back in. I know Gen/Sag/Seth people would love to have that.

It just reeks of laziness.

But whatever I will buy it anyway for support of FGs the scene in TN and cause I do still like SF…I think.

Why would someone buy the Arcade Edition DLC if they think their character(s) are superior in Super? If you don’t care about the twins, Oni or Evil Ryu you can save your money and still play play against those who have the DLC package.

On a side note, will it still be called Arcade Edition? Technically you’ll be playing it at home and not the arcade. Just sayin’.

Thats a valid point but I would imagine they release some kind of update or something that makes it so you have to have the same version to play online with other people. So if you only have super you can only play with other people who have super and vice versa.

Defensive turtling and zoning characters require some level of perfection in which to play. If you fuck up and let the opponent in it tends to be really difficult to get away. Frequently, 1 mistake can make you lose the match. It often comes down to beating the clock. If you can keep the opponent out long enough to beat the clock, you win. (we’re talking about relatively high level of play, here). Since zoning characters can damage you for attempts to get in the match effectively plays out as… think of it as your life is constantly draining… You have to beat your opponent before your life is just gone. If you’re not hurting your opponent you’re constantly losing ground. Due to the decreased damage across the board the speed at which your life is draining is dramatically reduced. This gives you a large advantage over the previous balance configuration as you can now attack more mercilessly and fear your live draining significantly less. This will help you get “in” and once you’re in it’s mostly very easy to stay in. They’ve simplified the job for opponents of zoning / turtling characters while not giving these defensive / technical characters any additional tools.

This fundamentally decreases any advantage that defensive / technical characters might have.

To summarize… Keeping people out is fine and dandy. Once they DO get in you’re fucked. If you give the opponent all of the time in the world they will get in. Decreasing damage across the board and improving characters that are originally weak against zoning while not improving zoning characters is sort of a big deal.

Disclaimer: Everything I said is based on character vs character. I’m well aware that anyone who is good enough can beat someone playing as any character with any character. Players make the difference, of course. But, there are built in advantages and disadvantages to matchups.

What…is Capcom doing? If they bring back O.G. SFIV Sagat, I will proceed to Tiger Knee my whole cubicle across my office space, down the elevator, and into Deadrick Street traffic…

haha OG Gief = Lariat spam on crouching characters again. HERE WE GOOOOOO

haha OG Gief = Lariat spam on crouching characters again. HERE WE GOOOOOO

That is probably the best way I have ever heard of a zoning char described. And based on that I see what you mean about it fundamentally decreasing the advantage of zoning based chars. But does it actually decrease it to the point of useless like so many people claim or is it just harder now?

As someone playing Gief yes it does make it worse for them. Due to them doing less daamage a character like mine has more and more chances to get in and stay in than originally due to that lessen on their damage output.

thats fucking right is does, russian bros 4 life

GGs to everyone at Hastings last night.

Eraser vs Duckie ft5 money mtach was too epic. I’m so glad I reminded yall of it. Please Sunstone, have the video up asap.

Sev, I’m 21 (Dax get a fake ID lol)…it was so stupid that they didn’t let us go outside to eat at Hueys.

I’m not into Street Fighter much, but the whole idea of using Super or AE versions of your characters sound stupid. What was the point of the rebalance? This is gonna make it harder for tournaments to decide what the official rules are gonna be. Will people only be allowed to play AE version or switch back and fourth? Wonder what the rules are gonna be at EVO? Since I’m on the subject of SF, Eraser or Squabbler, yall need to teach me fundamentals and shit in SF. I might get into when AE drops by.

Fuck that, OG Safe burning kick spam wooooooooooooo!

I think it’s going to be Super and AE characters only, not “Vanilla” SF4, that might cause heart attacks with Rufus and Sagat stuff happening.

I still think some people will use AE characters because to be honest hardly anyone in the US has messed with the characters yet so people are just taking Japanese opinions on too many things.

The only things I know are:
Yun is clearly the best character in the game, he only has a few matchups that give him problems, but 3 dive kicks and the 50/50 when you are down mixups as well as stand strong as footsie that leads into a knockdown clearly make him the best. Even the uninformed “Zangief” beats him doesn’t play into this. You can’t footsie Yun or jump at Yun with Gief. You need to fight fire with fire and Rufus works well as does Evil Ryu (because of the damage), T. Hawk, Makoto, and Sagat…everyone else either goes even or he wins outright.

Yang is NOT as good as everyone thinks. His dive kicks and mixups are not as good as Yun’s. He may be able to do crazy damage off of low forward into Rekka but he can’t stand strong like Yun can and it doesn’t lead to silly stuff unless you have Seibu Super. Good character, but not top 3.

Honda AE version has a ground headbutt that goes through all projectiles (Sagat) and everyone else’s except for Jab (think Ryu, Ken, etc, not sure about Akuma red fireball) ground invincibility was tweaked, so if you anti air with EX, this just causes things to be changed slightly. Damage nerf not that big of a deal, depends on the “moves” you do as most of the damage nerf and jump strong situation were to fix the hitbox (not really a nerf) and the Sumo Slam damage.

Cammy AE depends on how well you chain combos. She’s very ground oriented in AE but still formidable, that is more of a gameplay style especially now that FP connects into combos (standing far)

Obviously there are some “broken” things fixed that people would run back to:
Blanka ball being safe (FP)
Rose’s U2 being invincible completely allowing for two a match
Cammy’s instant air dive kick is a bit much
etc

But there are “some” benefits to using other characters. In Super Turbo the idea to use an old character meant you were not able to tech throws but that was mainly because SSF2 did not allow throw teching, SSF2T introduced it but I think that it’s going to be an interesting hybrid of people using both versions. At least it gives people an opportunity to fight again Yun a lot more (and as much as people say Fei Long is clearly the best in AE from Japan’s point of view let me remind everyone that yes, his Fire Rekkas are plus frames now, but his RH chicken wing invincibility is gone. If Fei Long was “so good” he would not be complex to use and everyone here would use him and Balrog or Bison it up (easier characters) but you have to know your matchups and your characters. He may be a tank, but taking one thing away and giving him another doesn’t completely change the tier scale…there are lots about AE people don’t know and I think since only a few people have played the game here in TN still there is a lot of hearsay about it…

Locke: EVO is SSF4 only, this game will be too new I believe for those things to happen so I guess a lot of PS3s “won"t be updated?” LOL who knows

You Tennessee kids and your “thriving arcade scene that can get AE on launch week” psh get outta here

Theory:

Since Super is for the most part very balanced, they came up with AE just to get people playing again (just playing in general). Some of the lower characters got some decent buffs while everyone else got changes that didnt make a whole lot of sense, Yun and Yang are strong, etc etc. Well I think they only gave the nerfs/weird changes to characters that they didnt really want to change, but just BECAUSE they changed them, people got interested, they played, some complained and whatnot.

Now that they have the option of keeping their Super forms, people will be more excited for the AE for consoles and more willing to put money into it, even though they’re still playing the same character they have been.

Its like when Coca-Cola came out with “new Coke” then brought out Coke classic.

or it could be their way of trying to bring back people to a game a lot of people have lost interest in. A purely business standpoint

Well yeah thats what I was getting at. Its smart.

It’s probably both, look at how they changed the characters in AE, aside from all buffs like Hawk and Gen the characters got a few buffs and a few nerfs each. It was like they were just checking to see if it worked and a few didn’t, like Vega, so they’ll let you go back and use the vastly superior super version. Of course it is business to, anything else to add to that crawl on the trailer is better for them.
