Using MTAC as a gauge for the best players in Tennessee ain’t nearly as bad as comparing an AWA BlazBlue tournament to EVO.
On an unrelated note, BattleStream is pretty cool. Can’t wait until it gets to beta.

I’ll money match anyone here except Dinkins in chess and I promise it won’t take 3 hours.
I’m already up for Scrabble vs Negro Justice. AA AI all over the board.
FlyMike: In all honesty, I haven’t heard anyone use Majin as a crutch in a while. Especially after Super came out. As a Memphis player I always hope he wins (the same with anyone I play with on a regular basis). I don’t go hiding behind his name though. I believe the same can be said for the majority of the people here. I Memphis and cheer for the Memphis guys during tournaments. Not *just *Terelle.
I played a lot of people when I dropped by the North Memphis non-travelers place last week. In my opinion, the Hastings guys are right on par with the non-travelers. If you factor in Cylus and w00tsick, Terelle really isn’t alone at the top.
@gdbell: You realize Lil Majin didn’t win the last big Power Play tournament, nor the Oxford tournament last month? As for the rest of your posts, I tried to be nice before, but I don’t think you can call out who is good and who is not because, to be honest, I wasn’t very impressed the last time I played you, nor the times I have seen you play before that. I don’t think you understand this game as much as you think you do, and you probably won’t have a lot of people willing to help you improve at this point.
@DreamTR: W00tsick was at the Memphis tournament a lot of the TN crew came down to play in. He’s played or at least seen them play. Doom, NJ, Boomcube, Mekkanic, and Kodee were there off the top of my head (sorry if I forgot anyone, it was months ago). His defense is pretty solid and we go fairly even most times we play. He’ll do fairly good though I don’t know if he’ll take first. I haven’t played everyone who goes to GG reguarly, and even less in an offline setting, so it’s hard for me to tell.
Glad someone agrees on this lol. I dunno why people bitch about SF4 and then praise previous SF style fighters. Looking through nostalgia glasses much? SF4 is still SF just with less broken ass mechanics and the most balanced SF games to date, even moreso now with Super.
Cylus: I was playing the new UFC game and Royce Gracie is ridiculous on the harder levels. THQ and the UFC people made him better than he really is or ever was. His jiu jitsu is not as good as he is rated and it never was. He has never won a major BJJ tourney in his career. He has also never placed at a large tournament. I know they just have him in there for the fans and to play up his legacy, but I just found it annoying how he is going to tap out my BJ Penn the moment he tries a submission. I know I shouldn’t let Royce get me in a bad position in the first place, but BJ Penn was a BJJ world champion as a BLUE BELT. Am I not mashing enough to get out of these subs???
I know you’re the wrong person to be voicing this to, but your name is on that game guide, damnit! Matt Hughes outgrappled Royce a few years ago and I really believe he probably could have done it when Royce was in his prime. This game drives me craaaaazy sometimes.
This. The gameplay in those older games devolves immensely at high level play.
AAs in 3S? Nigga WHY? I got a parry.
@gdbell - I can agree with you on the whole “Best SF player in Memphis hates the game” topic. That shit is down right sickening and an insult to anyone that likes or takes SF seriously. Words can not express how much I hate seein someone do well in a game that they never play or practice in. Let alone being considered “the best in town” Just the thought pisses me off. To answer your question I was/still am a Tekken player but I also practice/play a plethora of other fighting games at an advanced level.
On a side note though. Until you actually start coming to gatherings and placing in these ranbats, please STFU about who you know is/isn’t good. As far as Im concerned, you haven’t played enough of anyone to even make that sort of statement. People that try to comment on a community that they aren’t doin shit in really put a thorn in my side and I don’t know who you think you are talkin all big like your just one of the top dogs or somethin. Last I recall folks weren’t askin me if I’ve heard or played this guy name gdbell because he’s been beating everyone’s ass. PLEASE show up to some gatherings and get your money taken! Otherwise, keep your disrespectful comments on how good “you know” Memphis’ players are to yourself. Slaw…oh and for the record, we’ve never played. If so, then you must not have been “impressive” because otherwise I would’ve remembered it.
Are you mashing buttons? If so, I think that was one of the screw-ups my co-author put in. I’m embarrassed my name is on that guide sometimes. You have to rotate the right stick like Hiryu churns out those 360s (sorry man, I couldn’t resist, I’m j/k lol). But yeah, he shouldn’t be able to tap out someone like BJ Penn unless your energy on your stamina bar was depleted or close to depleted and he was at or close to full energy. By energy I mean the bar that depletes as you do moves and recovers when you aren’t doing anything. Do you play with stamina bars on? IIRC BJ Penn’s Sub defense is actually higher than Gracie’s Sub Offense, so either you were mashing buttons and not rotating the right analog stick or you had really low energy.
My fav AA was w/ Dudley. Ducking cancelled into Corkscrew Blow from behind the opponent.
People better decide, I can’t be a Masher AND a Churner. Make up your minds, peeps!
Sure you can churn the stick and mash the buttons. I like lots of salt with my mashed potatoes.
You do them at the same time. Churn with the left hand while mashing with the right!
I do both my churning and mashing with my right hand.
Cylus: I was just mashing the button. I’ll make sure to churn that right analog from now on though. I was wondering why I was getting tapped out so much. My roommate would always laugh at me because I am a very competent grappler in real life, but get tapped for free in the game. The rage from UFC 2009 and UFC 2010 has fueled MANY hard workouts at the gym. :-/
im black…
Indeed I was–just didn’t play SF.
well damn.
I will happily MM anyone to a drinking contest! Beer, tequila, Vodka, Rum, Wine anything besides whisky!
Format,
1.a minimum of 35 ounces must be consumed by the hour per hour.
2.First one to pass out, barf, piss on yourself, or simply say “I can’t take this shit no more” loses!
3.After said parties are extremely intoxicated and no one has fallen to rules # 1 & 2, then a 2/3 match in SSF4 must decide the winner! Random Characters of course!
I will say this, I had a huge post about this whole, “Memphis uses Lil Majin as a crutch” thing! If you are saying this, then YJDK! that is all!
