The thing about ringouts is that they’re really not that prevalent in high level play. Yes, they do happen, but it’s not insanely common because both players have familiarized themselves with the stages and matchups. A lot of the time, a player will choose to roll on the ground for positioning while taking a little bit of poke damage. In low level play, ringouts seem to be much more viable, which is where the whining originates.

How is that a troll? If you often get hit by random raw ultras you’re just playing the game wrong.
ok…NOW he’s trollin…
j/k man you know I luv u and your Rose shamwhaaaoooww technologies…

Street Fighter IV the game that Zeth and Jeremy brings 7-4 and 6-5 matchup technology.
Comeback mechanics are just as bad as main characters not being able to be killed/died b/c they are the main characters.
Nikka, shut up. There is no way I should die from one ultra that took 60% of my life when I only made one mistake b/c I respect you as a player by not laming you out by chipping you with run away air fireballs and instead try to land one more mix up to kill ya.
Any time you do a mixup please don’t forget that you are still putting yourself at risk.
Not if they are still airborne at time… There’s a lot of situations where the worst thing the other person can do is block wrong…
All’s fair in love and war Johnny… learn to fight like a cheap, tier whore bitch.
(Edit: Not calling you a bitch Johnny. I can see how that could be misinterpreted now.)
Also, KoF XIII get!
When is it ever not a bad thing to block wrong? Maybe I’m confused but it sounds like you are saying that blocking wrong is a good outcome in certain scenarios?
I’ll call Johnny a bitch
btw thanks to Justin I can now train KOF at home all it took was my xbox deciding it wanted to work and 45mins of putting a stick together but we in there
M-m-m-mix ups.
Whether or not my dude Anthony is trolling, this is actually legit. And I agree with him and Bishop. A “comeback” mechanic is just another layer of complexity/strategy in a fighting game and as Bishop said, and I can’t stress this enough, BOTH players have that option at their disposal.
Yeah you can whine about reversal windows and certain characters have more ways of landing their ultra, but ultimately it’s a tool every character has. I’m mostly regurgitating what others have said already, but they are really good points so I wanted to visit them. They do however, bring me to my next point:
Yeah see I feel like this is the wrong mentality to have. And Johnny you know I mean no disrespect, just using this as an example to make my point. Think of it this way: instead of this mentality, think about the fact that you just got hit with a raw ultra for 60%. 9 times out of 10, provided we are talking SFIV, if someone is hitting you with a raw ultra that took that much life, you were probably at a significant health advantage. So why even put yourself in a situation where getting hit with an ultra is a possibility? This is something I’ve actually been guilty of an actively working to improve over the past few months, and i’m seeing results from it.
Regarding the part I bolded - dude. If you are in a situation where you can “lame someone out with air fireballs” DEAR GOD DO IT. DO IT EVERY TIME. It’s not the flashiest shit but I guarantee you will start winning more. Chasing Akuma or Dhalsim down while they are teleporting all over the fucking screen throwing fireballs and running like a little PUSSY is one of the most infuriating things to fight against. You see me getting mad just typing it in this example. You’ll have the mental high ground as well as a life lead.
Again man, don’t take offense, just think about it from a different perspective.
In semi related news, I have arrived at a realization - Sagat is a fucking badass and my second in command. I must learn this man. Like on the real I want to learn Sagat. Also Cammy because she’s my bottom bitch and is good as fuck in SFIV.
I’m sidebetting on Astaroth like a MOTHERFUCKER saturday. He knows what I’m referring to. TN vs. the world. Memphis - you know I got y’all back too. leggo!
I’m hopping on KoF shortly, then AE later tonight. If you see me on holla at me on XBL or AIM.
I was looking through some old tourney results I saved and came across this.
I can’t believe its already been two years. We were all so young.

on the KoF. Hit me up on XBL if you want to play.
There are several things in this post that are not really true so that’s why I couldn’t figure out if you were trolling.
Ultras actually do huge damage or it wouldn’t be a comeback mechanic. They don’t do the same damage if they are scaled because of a combo but even so they do loads of damage, but it’s not even fair for most of the cast. Ultras across the board do not do the same amount of damage. So Hakan has to “trick” you into a mistake for U2 and gets petty damage with no damage scaling but Viper can burn kick you while she’s in the corner and she gets an ultra for way more damage and no meter usage, one example of many.
It’s not even the ultra mechanic on it’s own but the design of SF4 does not make it a viable option for some characters. Everyone has access to an ultra but it’s not like anyone is afraid that Bison is gonna combo them until an ultra on the ground, for example. A lot of characters can have full meter but you will not be worried about them hitting you with an ultra because their FADC does not lead to an ultra option.
Every character has an ultra, but some are far more easy to use and some do way more damage (and there’s no reason for damage in ultras to vary at all, no good reason anyway; doesn’t Guile’s U2 not even do 400 damage raw now? that’s stupid). The variety is cool but there should be a time limit on when you can use it or something. That would at least encourage more aggressive play. Too late now to change that but whatever.
Like it deteriorates slowly for the whole match as it builds? That might be cool. The only thing I can say about the “not everyone has a viable ultra” argument is that the characters that dont, usually have great fundamentals. As far as “coming back”, yeah its not quite equal opportunity but you deal with it.
None taken. It’s all good Chris. After last year MWC, I thought I should just use every advantage I can get just to win matches and tourneys whether it be top tier characters, lame zoning, comeback factors, etc. If BOTH players have the options, why not use it? I thought about it for a good 2-3 months and ultimately decided just to keep playing the way I do and that is to rushdown and mix up even if it is unsafe and can risk the whole match and lose money. Part of it is guilt that winning in such a way makes me feel bad for myself and my opponent. I would be robbing my opponent of his money while he’s thinking “I just lost to this pussy who ran away all day.” Well if he lost to something that he could beat, that’s his fault anyway. The other is the fact that I want to prove I can win w/o using every advantage given to me in the game. In a way, it makes me put more effort to winning instead of whining about nerfing this top tier character so I don’t have to try so hard. That would be boring and not challenging at all. I like to put a show for people cause they paid $8.95 to watch some quality high level FG stream.
I know I may be living in a fantasy land, but that’s just me. I think from now on, I will play smarter and little safer (some risk is needed to have high reward) while still retaining my rushdown and mix up style.
GGs. Sorry to cut the set short but I have to work in the morning and I am an hour ahead of you.
