They have one by Capcom on Neo Geo Pocket.
The Gem thing sounds really dumb/bad for any kind of serious play. I will say I am holding off on judgement until I play the finished product. In a way I am glad they are trying to make the game a little different. As Shawn said do we really need multiple FGs that play the same? At the same time I definitely got trolled by Marvel so I am remaining cautious.
SF4 is basically the last decent fighting game. Somewhere after Super SF4 Ono started smoking crack cocaine (this really happened) and he basically has sabotaged the entire industry. All future fighting games will be garbage from now on.
Oh well, at least now we’ll have more time to smoke crack.
LOL!!!
That’s okay. Finally got Dark Souls. Between this and a whole bunch of old ass games I’m set until early next year.
I’m ok with the idea in theory, the concept of being able to have some slight creativity/originality is attractive. It plays on the same appeal that playing underplayed characters does, that there’s something that sets my char apart and I have my own set of strengths/weaknesses. It will also be fun to try and identify what my playstyle is in order to pick the best ones for me.
Of course, there will probably be one set for each char that the internet tells everyone to use and that will be that as far as most people are concerned. Won’t affect me though, I’ll still put my own thought into it.
I always used to give MTG netdeckers a hard time. They lose because they aren’t picking according to their playstyle. What works for someone else won’t always work for you. Use them for ideas, sure, but splash your own stuff in based on your personal tastes. You know, like an internet chili recipe.
Awesome. The game is full of codes, so I have no doubt that inputting something during his celebration would cause it.
Man, the more info they put out for Street Fighter x Tekken, the more it’s starting to remind me of that awful Capcom Fighting Evolution game.

The gem idea is far from new but it’s never really been meant for tourney play and it appears Ono is suggesting it is.
My first experience with adjusting characters stats was Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi series. It does make it where all characters can be viable with the right changes.
I don’t like the SF4 system: ultras are dumb, canceling specials is still stupid, large reversal windows, and so on. I have a lot of grips about how the game functions but I gave it a shot because everyone else did and it’s decent fun. SfxT is a different take on the system with added variables where no fight will be the same. I’m down for that. I just love that people can’t go in training mode to know EXACTLY how something will work against every opponent because the gems will change it. So funny to me. Creativity is what Capcom is touting and I think it’s a direction that should at least be played before people judge it
While it did make the really crappy characters viable, good characters just became broken. Revives after KO, up to 8 health bars, infinite meter to spend, etc. were all available. It was fun to mess around with though and piss your friends off.
Word is BOND son. Nigga I LUH me some crack. Reaganomics bitch. Dick shrinkin poison…
dogg my chili love is Sonic The Hedgehog status. But yeah I smell you on this. It’ll be like Third Strike SAs where at high level you basically use X super art only if you play X character. Hopefully the Gems offer a little more creativity and playstyle diversity. What I’m NOT excited about is possible (which means definite) DLC for gems, as well as them being unlockables. Bill Grim nailed it. We are beyond unlockables for tourney games.
Still maintaining cautious optimism for SF x Tek. Spoke to Mike Ross, Combofiend, and Fubarduck about it at SB. Mike and Combo both love it. Combo described the metagame as “footsies until you hit them…then you got nuts.” But as Jason said last night, they both come from old school Marvel backgrounds (mash…see a hit…infinite) so we’ll see how it goes.
Anyways, Cale - what’s the word on fight night Friday?
So after inducing high blood pressure due to high sodium intake on a certain hat wearing jail bird maining homo guy, I played Broly Legs’ Chun-Li who had 10k plus BP and had a pretty good match. It’s crazy how he’s damn near just as capable of using Chun with his face as me using a stick. Kinda wierded out though to be honest… whatever.
Gems? Let’s see it before we pass judgement. We gotta give Capcom some credit. After all, we’re still playing their games to this day so they’re doing something right. And that Capcom Fighting Evolution game reminded me of how awesome Demetri was. Looking forward to the new Darkstalkers game. I’m gonna try out Rikuo.
Man, nothing irritates me more than people that come in, look at things, look it up on ebay in front of me, and try to get me to price match ebay. This dude totally just missed out on a minty Final Fantasy 9 for PS1 for $12.99 because he can get it on ebay for $11.99. lol, his loss, this shit is going to be gone first hour at the expo this weekend.
That shit just irritates the hell out of me.
Those are game codes, not the stuff for adjusting stats. You had to accumulate points by doing stuff in the game and you could buy the ability to adjust stats. You could add health bars but the rest of that is not normally available.
Also, even if you could do infinite combos in SFxT, I don’t think it would matter since damage scaling will still be in play and patches are readily available. There are still infinite combos in SF4 that Desk finds but they are not even worth the effort for what’s considered more serious play.
Hard work does pay off!
Honestly Dee Jay is not like Guile. With Dee Jay you want to get up on people. With Guile you want to run away and control the field.
That is actually on purpose…They even use the same fighting styles as there Gundam Characters.
you beat me to it lol.
I personally love creating and editing characters(FlyMike knows) but the idea will eventually be a big copy and paste thing when it comes to high level. All games that allow that “make any character your own” always have VERY stupid stuff in them. Along with the “If you ain’t got these skills equipped, don’t even bother” type stuff. The Budokai series comes to mind. The idea still sounds very fun and exciting on a purely casual level.
Oh and LOL at this “I got trolled my MVC3” nonsense. I’d love to hear some opinions on why you think that.
