TENNESSEE THREAD : HOME of THE ANGRY OLD MEN and PO' FOLKS

I wouldn’t mind heading out there on a weekend night, Sev. I’m usually off after 6:30 PM mon-sat. And yeah, if another Memphis tourney occurs I will do my best to attend and learn.

5K…nice.

I should be getting 3K back this year.

Edit: Lycan, I think a simple “I might be a daddy…” would have sufficed…lol…

Brian got called into work today at 12, we were suppose to come over to GG but hopefully we can make it next Thursday. That is Brian’s free day so I’ll mostly be coming on those days.

Damn, I get back a crappy 1K…

Mekkanic, I thought about it for a moment but that just ain’t my swag! Too boring like that! Might as well give all the crazy details!

Yeah one of the few benefits of home ownership is tax season. It sucks though too because after owning for 2 years and paying a decent mortgage we have only paid of 8K of the principle. Interest is a bitch.

Shhhh… it makes him feel potent. :stuck_out_tongue:

Same with being a college student. I got a $1800 tax credit for tuition and books. In total I’m getting back about $2300.

Ah, the days when I actually got money back during tax season.

UPDATE for Feb 6th -7PM gathering after Game Galaxy Tournament

Ok I have 3 setups and enough SFIV sticks to cover everyone (if shawn brings his 360 stick). Pizza will be Little Ceasar’s pepperoni. There is plenty of room.

I know right. Uncle Sam rapes me every week and every year I have recieved less and less money on my fed tax return. I was just a lunch with the family Lawyer and he is very suprised I get any money back at all. I am not too much into politics but damn, All the damn money they take out and I hardly get any back! Now that’s Gross!

I’m getting a little money back but nothing like that… where are your deductions coming from? Kids? Still in school?

I don’t want to hear ANYONE complain about taxes unless you own businesses or do freelance/contract work.

Dream: I would think uncle sam takes good care of you being a personal business owner. I grew up in that world and my dad was getting all kinds of tax breaks. He owned several restaurants while I was growing up and he could do all kinds write offs for equipment, equipment repair ETC.

Codez: Deductions for me come from all of the interest I paid this year for owning a home. All the interest that you pay is tax deductible. So for the first 5-10 years you pay much more interest than you do principle and you can claim it all. I also get some back for business travel but it doesnt amount to much.

Lycan: Dont bother complaining man. You are a single male with no dependents. You are lucky you get anything back. Just be glad you don’t get “bonus” because they tax the shit out of that. Its crazy. Uncle Sam takes 40% off the top before the state gets their hands in it.

This…is absolutely spectacular.

Oh my god I need that shirt for my wife badly. Nice find Viper

That shirt really is cool!

Back on taxes,
Since I have been working in MS and living in TN technically, MS taxes my ass minimum of $.750.00 per year just to drive on the fucking roads. I don’t get back any of that! That’s not alot extended thorughout the year, I know! But what about filling single and they take out so much damn money? Like I said before, I just don’t get it.
When I complain about things like this, it’s because I see my Jobless 35 year old neighbor, riding a fucking brand new 2009 ford f-250 with rims and mud tires. Or seeing him walk in with brand new fucking 50 something inch LCD. You gotta be shitting me. No, he doesn’t sell drugs. He is on Disability, unemployment, food stamps, and everything else you can mention that is government issued or whatever. I have sat down with this scumbag and he has told me his scams! I feel like I bought that fucking truck or TV! Thats the kinda shit I hate. Lazy fuck!

Don’t let me get started in Health Insurance. I literally paid $1,307.06 this past year. That was just for me. Now, Insurance is different from taxes and all, I know, but fuck. I just got my teeth cleaned and that’s it. If your not sick, some damn company just got rich off of you! They should atleast pay back like 30% or something if you didn’t get sick right? I dunno. When it’s all said and done, I keep working and the more I/We make, the more they take out!

First off people in MS and TN cannot complain about state taxes. The tax rates in VA were much higher. When I was younger is annoyed me but I now know why they were higher. They were put to all kinds of use. Regarding the roads here they need to tax more or better use what they get because roads around here are a fucking joke. I cant speak with Nashville or anything but Memphis is one giant fucking pot hole. Hell Memphis itself is a joke when it comes to just about any public works situation. Its no wonder this city is considered a joke.

Regarding your neighbor cheating the system. That has nothing to do with his tax rates. That is just him cheating the system. He isn’t the only one on wellfare rolling around in a new vehicle and we are all in a way paying for that shit. I fully support reform on projects like that. Lord knows we need them to stop BS like that. In some ways these programs help but there are too many people cheating and not enough is being done about it.

Working in INS I have to step in here too. It is the way it is for a reason. You have to understand how it works. These companies are trying to manage risk. Its not about you paid X amount this year but only used Y and should get a refund. They have to take all the additional premium that you paid and apply it to another individual who may use far more than they paid in. Is also used to cover overhead, expenses and yes profitability. Does the system need to be put in check hell yes it does. But it isn’t as easy as blaming INS companies. They don’t set prices on everything. When T was in the hospital last year we paid 100 just for the syringe used to administer a shot. Not for the drug or even the needle know the fucking plastic plunger. You can buy a hundred of those for that price. You should ask your Dentist for the itemized bill for the teeth cleaning and see what it really cost. It might surprise you.

Lastly, and this is just me, but I find the more money I make the more republican I become. Its kind of funny.

I hope some of you knew this but FEDERAL INCOME TAX IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL. There is NO LAW I repeat ABSOLUTELY NO LAW that states you MUST pay income tax. Yes we all know that these taxes help certain programs but that money is your and should not be in the hands of the United States government.

Much like how the Federal Reserve is set up, it’s all a sham, educate yourselves.

He is correct. He’s also probably a libertarian. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d like to adjust my deductions to where nearly no tax is taken out of my check, and I take what I WOULD have removed and put it in a savings account. Once a year, I’d write a check to cover the taxes I owed and enjoy the dividends. It’d be more math, but with a decent savings account I’d make money off of this.

I honestly don’t really know if I have a stance I’m not into politics THAT much but when I see something I don’t like I research. For my public speaking class I have to take up an issue so I’m doing Social Security and I’m all for the idea of having it no more. Instead I think it would be better if everybody had privatized accounts in which the Social Security taxes taken out of your paycheck can be put into this account instead of being given directly to the government. Or at least a small portion is done this way until the old Social Security standard is phased out, this would at least possibly keep it solvent till the change is made to complete privatization of SS accounts. It’s projected to crumble I believe in 2041. The way i see it is all we are doing is paying the government to keep all these other people comfy while all we get is a promise that the same will be done for us. Fuck that. If people had that extra 12% of income in a privatized account they could do a multitude of things: pay off school loans, start a business, live comfy in their youth and modest in old age, invest in stocks and bonds to possible create even greater wealth. i believe that’s the way we should go but that’s just my opinion.

As far as I know you can adjust it so you pay less taxes up front. A few people from my work do this and they get either no refund or a very small one. In general refunds are nice but they are zero yield savings accounts. Boo on that. I doubt you will make much though. Standard savings accounts yield what 2%. CD’s maybe 4%.

Also I am pretty sure I have seen plenty of counter arguments to the Income Tax is illegal thing. In any case it isn’t going anywhere and even if it did I don’t think any one would benefit.

Joker: I am curious for your example when can the person access their private “Social Security” account? At any time or would it be similar to an annuity that only matures at a specific age?
