Bishop, I feel you on that… As I have done research and other things on the matter in the past and present, I can assure you that alot more people from earlier generations have fucked up the “taken seriously”. Point in case…
I have read on other threads about this Watts guy… the YJDK guy!!! Now I don’t know how true this is but supposedly in the past, he has talked very badly and has even said NO to specific sponsorships! When he said NO to alot of these “mainstream folks” he was talking to them in behalf of the West Coast scene in general. He didn’t like a few of the ideas nor did he talk in a professional manner. Some people backed him on this and other people seriously said WTF are you doing? I don’t pretend to know all the details about the situation but as stated before, if this stuff is true then I guess he should have consulted more people on the matter! Or Maybe whoever was making offers should not have gone to just one person!
I am guessing that some “OG’s/top players” want to keep the scene semi-underground! I can understand that argument as much as the, we need to be taken seriously. The Iplaywinner folks have seriously done some nice streams without all the gibberish and crap. I personally like the hanging out streams cuz they are comical to me. These arguments can go either way but If they are just hanging around having fun and want to stream it, I see nothing wrong with that. Now when you are streaming a serious tournament and such, then maybe the commentating shouldn’t be so vulgur I guess you can say!
In ending, what you choose to say is what you choose. No one can really police you on the matter because this has not gone “mainstream” yet!!! However, I do think that their shouldn’t be a sole representative making decisions for a community/scene without discussing said decisions to enhance the popularity or the thoughts of outsiders.
I have had a first hand experience in the matter. Here in Olive Branch there is a store called Gorilla Games. The owner was talking to me seriously about maybe sponsoring tournaments and the like. The owner is a older man with two sons. One of them is about 21yrs and the other is still in High Scholl somewhere. Well, the 21yr old got in these forums to see what SF was all about. He was an 09er. You know, the guy that wanted to play SF4 in 09 and got shit on for asking questions in the forum last year. Need less to say, he didn’t play long and told his dad basically, FUCK SF4!! I couldn’t convince the dad other wise. I tried explaining that not the entire scene is like this but oh well. So i can definitely see where your coming from!!!
So gdbell/gabu-chan is back. After a long weekend of being salty, cooling down, and talking to some people here in the local scene I have come to understand that a lot of what goes on between me and others here is simple misunderstanding…90% on my part. So I have come here not too rant but to apologize if I offended anyone here. Im not here to be cocky and show people up or rub loses in their face. I just want to be a productive part of the scene.
However, there are some things said I still don’t agree with. First, I don’t think me asking for games online qualify me as “scrub” material. The reason I put such an importance on online play per say is that this is the only way currently I can communicate with a lot of you guys as far as playing you is concerned. I understand playing offline is totally different but as of now, online is all I have until I get my ride back running efficiently. Second, I don’t think me challenging Eraser to a MM was calling him out. If Im not mistaken he challenged my Sagat with his Rose first, I just put something on the line to make things interesting. I knew once I made that deal with him along with Squab and Sev that I was probably buying drinks for everyone afterwards because they are one step ahead of me. Lastly, when I say a character is a bad match-up, Im not talking about that character as a whole. I main Sagat and Akuma…there is no such thing as a bad match-up lol. I am more so referring to the match-up in terms of me and my skills. This is more so my fault as I am not clear when I say something about a matchup and have come to realize that simply re-wording what I say or just asking for matchup help is a lot more beneficial.
With all that said, everything is in the past! Im moving forward and hope everyone else does too. I want to apologize specifically to Hiryu, Duckie, pJan, and Sev. Rather it be for bragging about a win or saying one day I will be unbeatable or talking about “the champ” too much. Totally my bad. I don’t know everything so I will talk a lot less on this forum in regards to strategies, match-ups, and wins/losses and just read more and enjoy the comedy it provides. Im not here to be a douche bag but Im hear to have fun and enjoy something I like very much and help the scene here in Memphis to grow. If anyone lives in the G’town area and doesn’t mind picking your boy up sometime for Wednesday fight nights hit me up: 901-378-0159. I will give you gas. Much love
gdbell/gabu-chan
p.s. Lil majin coming back for Super huh? Interesting.
Duckie, no I was not talking about you. The only significant difference that you and I seem to have is our opinions on the harms of hyper-sexualization on culture. You seem to be able to read and write fairly competently.
Good to see you back, gdbell. No apologies needed, it’s all in the past. I’m glad to see you post again!
Anyway, I hope to see you out at the fight nights soon, and yes the scene is going to get a lot more interesting, judging from the 12 or so cats playing Super in my apartment til 3 in the AM lol!
On a different note, Memphis players it looks like the plan is to be at Powerplay tomorrow starting at around 3 PM. I know I will be there, and so will eraser, Squabbler and Lycan. Of course, the more the merrier. I do not know how much the venue will ask for an all-day session, but I’ll try and find out beforehand. I’m sure it will be reasonable. Anyway, I hope to see new and old faces, and play new and old matchups. If you get the game early, good shit to you. If not, I know PP will have copies ready when they open at 10.
You’re also still not able to tell when I’m joking (ie: 99% of the time), but thanks for the compliment! XD
Also, someone told me to get on AIM. I’m on AIM and this person is not. I feel hurt and let down. Because of this hurtful shame I must head off to the nearest bridge to tie a rock around my foot, afterward throwing it off and sinking into the dark, dank abyss of the ocean. Or the Mississippi River. Whichever is closer.
Duckie: I live at the Champion Hills Apartment. It is near the Hacks Cross and Winchester intersection. I live literally 2 minutes away from that Korean place.
And 2 hours left…I am like THE only person in Memphis that hasn’t played this game…GOD!!! Even the Tekken dudes have mealed on this game!
Hmmm, I do pass by that way on the way there. I don’t think I’ll be able to pick you up this Weds (I’m getting there a lot earlier than normal Weds) but I can probably swing by and grab you in the future so long as you understand that I a) hate getting there late and therefore won’t wait more than 5 minutes (seriously, I’m already making a three hour trip to play for two hours :p) and b) we often don’t get done at the Fox until 11 PM.
edit: I’m also about to blow a goddamn gasket at my roommate because he STILL hasn’t paid me. I tried contacting his father and only got a “We have addressed this issue with him. He has agreed to pay his part of the past bills. The future bills are to be discussed between you and him.”
