Tennessee: Home of Vowing to Never Go 4-40 Again, Noooo Siiiiiirrrrrr!

GGs to all. Fun times on fight night as usual. Sorry to those who wanted to get some extra casual matches in but Sev was determined to get as many of my matches done as possible.

The Money Matches were fun as hell to watch.

Sure. It’s Cylus though ;).

Memphis doesn’t count as traveling. It’s only an hour away and I mostly go to hang out with my friends there. Though I am possibly traveling to Arkansas this weekend.

Quick note, I move that we quit making gdbell a main event @ hastings until he defeats someone.

what’s the reason for picking ultra 1 against dudley?

wink wink nudge nudge

Seriously… some of those combos are insane. Look at Noel’s #10 and how much damage it does. BARF! -_-

PS: Bishop, send the that link.

Uh, shoutouts I guess…

Sev for not busting my laptop.

Cylus for driving my dizzy ass to and fro.

Abe for sorting his hair out.

O for being responsible.

Anyone who sat down and played BlazBlue tonight. See! It’s actually a good game now!

People who approached me for stick work. Shoot me a PM for details.

Oh, and yes, I managed to wear myself out pretty good last night, so I took a sleeping pill that actually worked this time.

Oh, and who was interested in going toBattle for the South II in New Orleans? I’ll be attending, but I’ll be in Jackson the day prior so I won’t have room for anyone to ride. It’s August 7th, a week from Sat.

GG at Hasting Fight Nite this week and I like to thank all who I played like Duckie and especially Bishop who beat the crap out of me with Bang on BlazBlue CS. Don’t let up on that rush trap, maaan. Only way you get better is to receive the full treatment. 8) Posted up pics at fight nite site at SUPER STREET FIGHTER 4 NITE MEMPHIS DIVISION . Posting up videos soon.

Not saying this is going to happen, but at one point, Pyrolee and Afrolegends were really really bad players and then just starting owning up everyone because they became crazy focused. Not saying it is going to happen with gdbell, but those two are distinct examples of players who were not great and then because tops in the nation…

I pick my ultra based on two things:

Player tendencies and the character they choose.

Dudley is a match where Ultra I and II don’t really have an advantage over each other, Ultra I is great anti-air if you can react / player likes to jump, while I never expect him to do anything stupid like Random MGB’s that I can jump over and punish. Dudley Doesn’t have alot of holes.

Shin likes to jump alot so I thought I would use it as an AA if he got too predictable, it’s more damage, and believe me had I thought about it in the later rounds he would have eaten it.

I’ve also never been a fan of Bison 50/50 Ultra II setups, something about relying on the other player not being able to block an ultra doesn’t sit right with me.

Heh, finally got some love.

Anyway, yes, GG’s to everyone and big thanks to everyone who showed up and played, or brought setups, recorded etc.

We had a great turnout and many hype games, had some super fun matches myself with FlyMike. Hopefully we can get the full rankings done in a few weeks, and then it’s Tourney time!

@Cylus/pJan: I’ll have my revenge!!!

Yo sup TN. Not going to lie, kid woke up humbled this morning…well kinda. lol Lets run these shouts!

Sev: Thank you kind sir for running the Rankings last night. You were the hardest working dude in the building. Everything was ran smooth. And you are right, I talked a lot of trash about how my Dudley was going to trash Squab and I didn’t even whip him out (no homo). I have decided to use him only when I can land his BnB consistently. I am too inconsistent with him. Sometimes I look like a monster with him, then other times I look like gutter trash. I will certainly continue to train with him but over the next few months I will focus on mainly Akuma with Sagat getting considerable play time as well. I want to have all bases covered and I believe with this trio I will. But it is obvious I will have to take it one character at a time.

Woostick: Thank for recording the matches. I have been reviewing them and I am beginning to see what I am doing wrong. If only I had blocked more in that first match with Akuma I probably would have won. That is the story of my life with him. I can control the match ok then all of a sudden get hit twice and its over. Thanks again though man.

Lycan: Man good seeing you last night! I hate work is kicking your butt because we need you around more!!! I understand though, a minister at my church works in the same field and is always busy. Hopefully you can come out more so I can train up my Akuma. I need it!

Flymike: Stop fronting and just go ahead and get serious with super. Stop playing hentai fest half moon quarter moon wanna be CvS2 + Marvel, and get on the real man stuff!! Good games though. I thought I would beat you but for some reason I could not handle the Sumo Smash!! I thought I knew the Honda match-up a little due to Jan but I had no answer for you at all. I tried to zone you with Sagat and you managed to break through it. You def managed to make me look free. Good games and I hope to be able to handle you better next time man.

Hiryu: Good games. Your haircut must have given you super powers or something because I don’t remember your Abel being that good last time! Another match-up I must learn.

Jan: I will stun you more than one round next time!! lol GG as usual. I hate you are taking a break but duty calls man! Def understand. Just make sure you come back.

Duckie: Thanks for bringing the BB set-up last night but I couldn’t manage to get any games in on it. I was going to try but once I saw Bishop hop on it and begin destroying people, I said a prompt no thank you! lol Keep bringing it and hopefully next time I can get some games in and begin to learn.

Squab: I mean what can I say! You beat me 5-1 fair and square. GG and lets run it back soon! And next time it will be for the 50!

I think I covered everybody. If I missed you my bad!

Not saying that I will ever be on the level Afrolegends is, but after last night I am determined more than ever to become decent at this game. Destroying my friends and online comp obviously isn’t good enough to compete with some of the local guys here, so I will be starting at ground zero as far as my learning of the game and work my way up. I have a lot to learn. I will minimize my trash talk and just learn. I am a student now…so I will shut up and learn for the time being.

In the mean time, life is reminding me that he is real and I have to get some school stuff taken care of. My friend also is trying to get me to go on the biggest loser (yes the actual show) because he is afraid a nigga will have a heart attack or something! He wants me to go to Louisville next weekend and to be honest I am very reluctant. So my focus will be on that for the remainder of the week. I probably will not be back on until Monday so until then, good luck to everyone going to Arkansas. Cylus I hope you go because I’m sure you will do well and show people Memphis can play that Street Fighter just as good as that Tekken!

Have a sweet weekend gentlemen. Keep it classy!

Oh almost forgot…

P.S: I MOTION FOR SLAWHAPPENS TO STFU ON MATTERS THAT DONT CONCERN HIM! THAT IS ALL!

fuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Haha

@gdbell:

A small bit of constructive criticism. I recommend swapping your button config to a default setting, e.g.:

lp mp hp
lk mk hk

It may take some time to get used to, but certain things will become much easier, like teching throws and fadcing properly. Not to mention, OS techs and real plinks are best done on a default config. In general, if you find that you have to rely on a button combo map to say tech or whatever, that shortcut brings your execution down. Learning to do all your stuff on a default setup is usually the best way to go. Like, what if you have to play on an actual arcade cab? No button remapping there.

Lastly, I suggest that you refrain from referring to or replying to chithappens. We get it, you guys don’t get along etc etc. But if you constantly call him out/refer to him/talk shit etc here on the forums, while you never say anything to him at Hastings or whatever, it just looks immature. If you have real beef with him, say something irl, don’t just post shit here and be a forum warrior.
WE GET IT. You guys don’t like each other. Take the high ground, and just leave things be. Trust me, that’s the best thing you can do. And this is the last time I will address this issue, so don’t expect me to mention anything about this ever again.

PS. HAIRCUT POWAH!

Well guys, won’t be able to make the ranking battle the 14th. Got an old friend getting married, so yeah. Have fun though!

if anyone is wanting to make a short notice trip down to huntsville, we have a small fight game night here that is quickly expanding
The DOJO @ Haven Comics
Every Thursday 5:30 to 11:00(?)
This weeks feature… that new Blazgreen CS along with Super Street Fighter 4 and possibly some Melty as well

1871 Slaughter Road

(256) 430-0505

Any southern Tennessee guys wanna get in on this?

HUGE turnout last night. Was very happy to see so many players as well as setups. Sorry I didnt play any SF but I had to get that Bang showcase started.

ShinBlade - Why was I cheerin for Squabb? He plays Cody and I want to see Cody win. No brainer…$20 MM? Whatever…

Hiryu: Thanks for the advice I suppose. When I am switching the buttons on my stick, all I am really doing is switching the button config to be American style (I think that is what it is called), meaning I play the back six instead of the front six. For whatever reason I find it a lot easier to do it this way. I tried the front six when I first picked up stick and it just didn’t work. I must admit, I do map the front two buttons as triple kick and triple punch for ultras. I understand if I played on an arcade board I would be screwed but I probably only have to worry about that when I go to Japan. And I believe I would be able to push all 3 buttons at the same time. But I don’t map focus attacks or have a tech button to tech throws! Far too easy.

And I feel you about the whole beef thing between me and that other lame. Trust me, that was nice leaving it at one line. Over the past week, I have left it to one liners and thumbs up, and if he wishes to continue running his mouth, I will continue to leave it at one liners and thumbs up. But no more long rants. I have said before if he wants to discuss anything with me in person, I’d be more than happy, but of course he has yet to say a word. Oh well!

leave it at no lines, thanks in advance

@GDBell: I’m not trying to be a dick or anything but do you EVER say anything in person?? I swear the only thing you said to me was “yup” when I asked if you were ready for this… and then I heard you say GG to a few people but that was it… I don’t get how you can be so verbal and opinionated on the board, yet not say more than 3 words in person… looks at Sev  reminds me of someone else…

What I said was not personal. I don’t see a point in giving so much specific attention to a guy everyone would be embarassed to lose to.

I’m not fond of the guy but I wouldn’t shank him in the street either. He talks/jokes about mm’ing on srk. I p on him the first round then mess around the rest of the sets . He still talks today like he is a few min in training mode from beating most of tennessee. We only won cause he didn’t do this or that…

I won all my sets but you don’t see me money matching everyone I beat or saying that I didn’t use certain moves in rounds I lost. Its the attitude I don’t like. Sev asked me to be nice. I asked him about a button check and said ggs. That’s enough.

So much hype, not over game skill, but trolling. its not a big deal and I can see why some people might think its personal but guys like deviltrigger who are really trying to learn and ask questions are getting overlooked because they are watching gdbell who has too much ego to admit anything is flawed in his play.

I can rewire your buttons next week so you don’t have to keep changing the button config. I did the same for Cylus and he loves it.

(just to make sure we’re on the same page, I’m talking about

3P L M H
3K L M H

So your hands would be on the American buttons by default.) It’s easy enough for someone with no technical knowledge to do, so I don’t charge anything.

Regarding chit, just be the better man and drop it.

Nah, he talks. I got one or two sentences in last night, but that was mostly because I was so damn busy myself.

goes back to studying
