Has anybody here seen Bates Motel? This is apparently one of the most well executednshows of last year as I was researching it. I just saw it on Netflix randomly. I thought it was gonna be a pretty cerebral show akin to Hannibal or even The Following and focused on the psychological trauma Norman suffered trauma at the hands of his mother and what was he thinking when he did what he did. But 15 minutes in what is supposed to be a prequel to “Psycho” is instead simmered down to an American unwanted harem, ABC Drama highschool carbon copy. And im confused.
Tl; dr: I just never heard of if before and I’m not sure what to take it for.
Im gonna go eat something and sleep it off and comeback. I walked inside from the 25 degree weather to this shit.
The strange thing to me is how often I see this in the anime shows…at least the popular, non-obscure ones. Naruto– everyone is more interesting/cool than Naruto himself.
the old classic Dragonball/Dragonball Z– nearly everyone was more likeable and interesting than Goku, at least to me. The exception of course would be Yamcha…that dude was a sorry piece of shit…but damn I hated the hell out of Goku, and I enjoyed those occasions where he was getting his stupid, goofy-looking ass beat up.
Bleach almost suffers from the same thing, but at least Ichigo is a more respectable and interesting main character than the aforementioned other “big 2”… like currently, I’m sure most fans have more anticipation for what happens when Zaraki returns, as opposed to Ichigo…it is much more interesting to see just how ridiculously overpowered Zaraki is at this point.
*Bates Motel-- I forgot about this show… I assume it’s probably canceled? I haven’t seen it on the schedule or heard any talk of it in a LONG time. Yeah, it’s interesting to me… and as with most shows, it comes with the bonus of TnA/eye-candy… that woman playing Norman’s mom is HOT as hell, holy shit that is some prime cut right there
yeah banshee was a little weird. i understand not wanting to go full on EVERY episode so some people appreciate a change of pace but the change was too drastic for me with all the dream sequences and shit.
starting to get into brooklyn nine nine and and it’s pretty funny.
That’s a tough choice, it really boils down to the type of tv you like.
If you like action/crime trillers go for Banshee, if you like intelligent dialog go for True Detective
yeah i remember watching that bar fight and going “holy shit this is fucking awesome.” season 1 is so awesome though. job (asian crossdresser/tranny) is my fav character on tv.
Well I think that’s kind of the point. I mean it seems like the main character is meant to reflect the audience’s viewpoint almost every step of the way. In-between all of that, you get glimpses of the supporting characters’ established past to show how they play a part in the story/world. Usually the main character becomes more interesting as time goes on, you see them get into difficult or crazy situations firsthand and they how they deal with them as well.
I’m sure they could’ve maybe gave the main character a much more established past that unfolds eventually (which can still happen to some degree), or made him older to be someone a bit more mature with handling future events. For whatever reason they made him a late high school-aged student, which I guess has something to do with the family dynamic that’s just came into play more recently, and of course staying somewhat close to the previous TP series’ elements.
See my above statement…
Of course it depends on how well-executed that approach it is, I’d say One Piece does it better than Bleach, Naruto, or Dragon Ball Z though.
Bates Motel’s second season starts on March 3rd, ratings were good and A&E re-aired each new episode 4 to 5 times in the week it debuted. It’s a good show with only minor flaws, and yes Vera Farmiga is sexy as hell.
Beauty and the Beast is on right now. Kat’s partner Vargas is looking better than ever right now… I think she shaved down her eyebrows a bit and put on a little bit of makeup…this is definitely working. She looks outstanding right now, even though she’s super-skinny. Kristin Kreuk (“Kat”) looks cute/sexy as usual, of course…she’s fairly consistent.
I’ve forgotten what’s really going on story-wise though, but Vincent’s beast abilities are on a higher level this season. There’s some female “beast” character that also has a thing for him. So, Kat (the “Beauty”) has some competition there. Then, there is yet another “beast” character played by “Mohinder from Heroes!” that has a thing for Kat.
*ohhhh but TEEN WOLF is on MTV right now, with a new episode at 9 pm Central. This show recently caught my attention because Shelley Hennig (the hottest witch on The Secret Circle, and one of the hottest girls ever to be on CW in general) has recently joined the cast.
*damnnnn but that conflicts with Intelligence on CBS at 9 pm! Monday is too loaded now… it wasn’t that long ago that Monday nights were a barren wasteland of television to me. Still, it’s fortunate that this is the era of “On Demand” and the internet…it makes the task of keeping up with all this shit actually possible… though I’m still a bit old-fashioned in the sense that I enjoy the simple luxury of watching a show on the initial broadcast. My generation is probably the last that will care about that.
