kinda curious how the ratings have done with the first 2 episodes of originals. so far i like it…but kinda reminds me of if spike from buffy got his own show.
But Xander was my dude. I was actually re watching buffy the past few months. The jackal episode was one of my favorites. I’m in season 4 now. i think they just found the new hellmouth.
In the interest of being forthcoming, I never really followed the show. My big sister was a fan. She was a Xander person, too. I just saw a few great scenes with Spike and decided I liked him the best.
Like that one scene in which he’s watching Angel and some girl he saved interact and he’s speaking for both of them. Something like, “I’ve got to run off to the store and get some of that nancy-boy hair gel I like.”
Spike didn’t become more interesting until later seasons of Buffy. He was neutered to some degree, but it ended up being a good thing when reaching the series finale.
I liked Angel, he was a bitch on Buffy but grew into a much more well-rounded character. Even his Angelus persona became much more interesting.
Which baby plot? There were two and the first time brought about some intriguing twists to certain characters’ motivations/behavior, especially Wesley. The second time did have some momentary frustrations, but made-up for it with a really cool payoff.
If you actually kept watching Angel you would’ve known that Spike ended up on his show. It even brought up some similar comparisons as to which character might be better.
Yeah, Angel did nothing but good things for not only his character, but others. Wesley, Cordelia and Faith were pretty much made there. And when Spike got there for the last season it did good things for him too.
On the Xander end of things, I’d say he was Sokka from TLA before Sokka even existed. Xander was the useless but kind-hearted comedy-relief, quipped like crazy without ever really contributing to stopping any bad guys.
Later seasons is when he actually started pulling his weight. The whole army thing during Halloween where he retained quite a bit of useful knowledge was applied in later episodes. His save-the-day episode where no one knew he stopped a bomb that would’ve blown everyone to pieces was pretty fun.
Xander is the normal guy, the wild card where he can actually squeeze out a W, and he was the supportive glue that held everyone together when things were going horribly wrong (See psycho Willow).
Buffy was of course the Slayer and Willow may have been the Witch, but they had the most problems and were the basically least well-adjusted of the group. Xander was the most well-adjusted one amidst all the chaos that sprung up during the series.
That’s fine and everything. There were episodes I didn’t like too, but I know that getting through okay-to-bad episodes means there’s usually some setup happening to get to the good episodes. It’s not something I normally do for unproven shows, but by that time Angel had already established itself enough to give me a benefit-of-a-doubt when certain episodes weren’t up to standards.
Luther Series 3: quite the buildup. Especially the cunning of John Luther was evident. My issue would be the resolve between the new and old female lead. Seriously, that was quite a twist. Shoutouts to Luther not taking wounds seriously this round either.
nagging question
Spoiler
My question was if Shenk was in on the Investigation of John Luther from the beginning. Some of it looked a bit like a surprise to him until 75% in when Stark and him were in conversation. Why didn’t he stop the investigation before the 2nd case was given to Luther/Ripley?It would have made sense to stop it when they did. Mary had no business in the crossfire.
It’s also sad to see this series go with the possibility of a movie. It’s premature for that now so perhaps there should be a REAL graphic novel instead before that even comes into consideration. Then again, I’m sure SRK has a thread for this beast show.
watched all 3 episodes of “the originals” last night into the early am. good look on this thread, otherwise i wouldve never found this show, since i do not really peep for anything new, and randomly come across it like when its 2 seasons in. lol
anyways, the originals, is great. sometimes you wonder about how they are so blatantly doing crazy shit in public like when they went to ruffle the feathers of all the witches in the last episode. i guess i’ll just assume it was a private late night witches gathering party, but since its in new orleans, im like, well “humans” are not asleep at any hour of the night, especially in new orleans of all places, so the lack of discretion so far seems a bit far fetched. i mean, murders in the street and just leaving the dead body there, jumping off of a two story high garage in broad daylight, having parties where you drink on humans then bring them back with vampires blood, etc…
like the whole first episode i was like, wait, is this like true blood where the humans know, or am i confused. well for right now, i’ll ignore the “humans in new orleans tons of evidence for supernatural activity stuff”, because the cast is awesome, the story is great so far, writing is good, and the women are beautiful. i lust for the female original very much.
Holy shit The Originals is on FIRE right now… this show is even better than I already expected it to be. Klaus’ plan is in full effect with all kinds of things going on… and tonight Davina’s fine little ass just blew the windows out of that church in an angry outburst of her ridiculous magical power. This show is kicking ass for all kinds of reasons. I hope this turns out to be the hit it deserves to be.
*HOT ass women (as per the usual CW standards, of course.)
*Incredibly badass supernatural stuff going on with Original vampires, regular vamps, werewolves and witches (*and Davina may be something else, actually…she seems to be in her own tier so far.)
*Violence and death. --People should remember that even though Klaus is the main character here, he’s definitely not a “hero”. He will viciously kill you with a smile on his face if it is necessary to his plans. You can’t really assume most characters (aside from Originals and Marcel since he’s the main enemy of Klaus for now) are safe on this show.
*As for the supernatural stuff staying under wraps— remember that the vamps all have “compulsion” ability. They can always just make ordinary humans forget what they saw. Compulsion is quite the underrated super ability. (*I think they can even compel wolves and witches as well, if I recall. Also, those of the Original family can compel all other ordinary vampires.)
*duuuuuuuuude and speaking of the violence-- Marcel just snapped this dude’s neck like it was nothing. Another great moment was when he killed that woman in the back of a van. He slit her throat and had her zipped up in a body-bag all inside of about 2 seconds. Yeah, I counted.
I like Cara’s young look way more. She is hot now, but she looks like she’s several years older than everybody else. Astrid is also hella cute. lol at friend zoning that. I hope the guy just tells her everything soon. I don’t want to deal with a season of ‘suspicious but harmless friend’ trope. Anyway, I’m really liking this show so far. Ending was cool. Time freeze is going to be so broken (especially for the writers lol). I hope they introduce a character who is really good at teleport fighting.
