In regards to the Paul-thing: Anakin just provided an excellent example of what I said about Paul at Dreamhack. Being able to switch the pace like that, and sometimes just steal games out of nowhere by going risky, is a huge deal.
Shoutouts to the second-to-last round of grand finals where the round ended in a total of three hits. Not three combos, just three hits.
Hey man , you don’t have to accept my theory if you don’t want to. These are just my theories that I test, and I’m reporting the results .
If you’re a Claudio player, it might not work for you if you don’t understand ling .
Im using a day 1 Claudio steamrolling through a ling …I never played with him before. No gimmicks here. I stood in front of his face and did whatever I wanted .
B+3, ss4, 1,2, f+2, hopkick , d+1, df+1, db+3
We are both ling players and understand the character .
Highest placing ling at Evo was Tomahawk …I was at his pad a few days before Evo and witnessed a local Claudio player giving him and a lot of other players trouble.
Deathfist and Demo Man are good yeah. Strong punishers 12f and up. Strong oki off combos and throws. Pressure with Sway options. Insane whiff punishers. He has a legit throw game due to having command throws for all break types (he even has an above average Ultimate Tackle with the armbar and rear naked choke extensions). He’s got the d/f+2 and the hopkicks.
So yeah, all that + a relatively low execution barrier.
Just wanted to talk about my experiences with PC and PS4 versions of the game.
When the game came out I played on PS4 and shit sucked major balls. Online sucked, loading times sucked everything was worse than PC except the jukebox.
Now I played a bit on PS4 recently and hell it got a lot better.
I can search for 5 bars on PS4 and get better or at least the same quality matches as on PC where I can’t find any 5 bar matches.
The game feels slightly different in terms of input delay but that’s it.
Deathmatches in ranked are so much fun and streaming matches is much less of a hassle than on my potato PC, so I think I’m gonna switch back to PS4 Noob.
I totally take the hit in loading times in order to play some proper long sets in good quality.
Also big plus: I don’t have to listen to that fucking G.Corp Helipad at Night anymore. That shit runs Bryan’s arranged theme from Tekken 3 now.
I was just going to leave it at that but then I’m going to reply…
The thing about your questions is that they are rhetorical. You’re not asking a question, you’re trying to make a point in the form of a question. I don’t like that shit and here’s an example
Over here, you answer your own question with a statement. In addition, the premise of your rhetorical question assumes I think Tanukana is a great player…why would you think that this would be my reasoning for picking Claudio in the first place…I have no idea.
I asked you to explain and provide reasons why you think Claudio isn’t the answer to beating Ling…you gave NO REASONS, only your BELIEF, that you don’t believe or think of the game in terms of character matchups…that’s fair. But your reasoning would apply to any situation or character matchup… since you don’t believe in matchups.
Notice you answered my question about Claudio and Ling in terms of your own learning process, not about the characters themselves. I didn’t ask you about your process.
And if you think of the game like this, it would have better to say that instead of saying Claudio isn’t the answer to beating Ling. You could say “Evilj, step your game up”.
Another question I’m not sure how I’m suppose to answer.
What this really is about is that you are more than likely a character loyalist and don’t like the idea of counterpicking or find it dishonorable when others do it.
Nothing wrong with that or licking a toilet seat if you prefer that.
Edit: On another note, my hwoarang did much better this week against my friend’s Ling than 3 weeks ago after putting some time in the lab and putting myself in specific situations and recording. I had to learn the hard way since he is my main and I want to invest in him. My other main Bryan did well against his Leo and his Ling, because yes as some have mentioned, Bryan is a more straight forward and easier character. Definitely top tier.
Devil Jin vs Ling: I played this matchup against my friend in T5DR, T6, and today in T7. He wrecked me 5-6 in a row. I switched to Heihachi and felt much better and we traded. Another reason why I think matchups exist because I’ve put way more time into DJ and think he’s the best Mishima. But I guess I’m better with Hei or he’s better suited against Ling.
So this is my first Tekken I’ve played seriously. I have Tag 2 on PS3 but didnt really play it that much. One thing I’ve learned today is that you have to be johnny on the spot with punishes. There’s very little time to properly punish a blocked move in this game. A split second and you’ve missed the window. In 2D games I’ve gotten used to watching my opponents char instead of my own but because this game is new to me I’m having to retrain myself to do that. Immediately after Laws flip kick registers contact as a block, I have to be inputting my hopkick launcher punish as Jin. Also, low parry’s are important and it seems to me that against Miguel, Jin’s parry becomes uber important to use. So many of Miguels attacks push Jin out of range for a proper punish. A lot of his 3 string attacks, the last attack you parry and you’re in proper range to punish. Now to see if I can apply this online. LOL.
It’s not a bug, King’s running Exploder can cross up if the opponent is low enough (Paul was going for Rage Drive). Been that way for a while. Armor King and Roger Jr could do the same back when they were playable.
I don’t plan on writing a whole essay like u did all I will say is I didn’t want to tell u to step up ur game I was hoping u would reach that conclusion urself people get kinda defensive when u tell them shit like that. I am not a character loyalist I just have my own way of learning the game but like I said before everyone is has there own way so let’s just agree to disagree and leave it at that.
Top 1 item on my patch wishlist:
Ingame match recording.
Gets really tiresome if you have to stream your matches all the time, upload that shit on youtube etc.
Also nice to see the button presses so you can go right to practice mode and use the move instead of having to remind the animation and go through 40 strings before you get what you’re looking for.
yeah there are quiet a bunch of little and big things which could improve the quality of life.
they are slow but they kinda listen to complains and change/fix it.
i just wish the majority of people would complain/wish important stuff instead to go ham because of one color.
Tekken is all about punishment, so yeah, you’re completely right about that. Getting a punish is generally pretty easy, but getting launch punishes on launch punishable stuff is something I still screw up embarrassingly often. You need to do it without really thinking, which means you’ll probably have to practice a specific punish on a specific move to really make it click.
Low parries are neat, but they aren’t that important as a beginner. Their main utility is blowing up lows that would otherwise be safe, usually because they’re in a string that doesn’t stagger when you block it (most 10-strings, Law Junkyard combo, Yoshi spins, etc), which also makes them more reactable since you know the low is coming from the string starter. Though you generally just use them on the small lows that you wouldn’t get a big punish on, because low parries scale out combos horribly. It’s useful, especially against 10-strings, but not a big point of focus imo.
I’m being honest. Basically no player excels at this. Mainly because there’s too much shit to grasp. People LOVE to hype up punishment with Kazuya. Thing is being to able punish with a 13f is HARD. There’s some obvious crap like can can kicks but as you progress, players will clean up their act. Thus less EWGF punishes.
I don’t play Mishima’s myself, I play Gigas. It’s just an incredibly difficult punishment option. The execution barrier on Mishima’s is really cool, but can get a little tedious. I think top players settling for less mechanically intensive characters shows this really heavily.
