Tekken 5 Tiers?

I thought it was because no one could pronounce his name so they just gave him a simple nickname.

random NO person =/

Funny, I always figured it was just to simplify the pronunciarion. I’ve been playing Tekken since the first one and I’m still not sure how his name is pronounced. :wgrin:

wahaha nice.

I just got into Tek5 over the weekend. I didn’t think I’d ever play a 3D fighter, until I picked up VF4Evo in December. A month ago, I wanted to get into Tek5, but it wasn’t out on console yet. So I borrowed Tek4 from a friend, but I didn’t like it. Last week I talked to a couple of the Tekken guys at FFA, and decided to really try T5. Holy fuck.

Julia: df+2,1 -> f+3~1 -> ff+1 -> ff+1 [wall] -> 1+2,4, b,f+1+2
99 damage.

I think its pronounced like “Whore-Wrong”

But I think the top tiers are:

  1. Steve
  2. Nina
  3. Julia

wang>julia

bryan>law

djin>jin

People need to learn how to fight Julia already, Jesus.

You can sidewalk that girl all day long FOR FREE!!!

that doesnt mean she sucks…

hell, by that logic, because you can break throws, Wangs Waning Moon isn’t that good.

She doesn’t suck, but she still gets sidewalked for free.

scrub question:
Whats this “oki” everyone keeps talking about?

Ground games, ie knocking your opponent down and keeping them there.

look, any character can be used well. any character can win. tiers are not as important in this game as in… say mvc2 where no servebot can beat a sentinal. you give an average player a sentinal and justin wong servebot and ill bet the sentinal wins.

ive seen shauno win norcal regionals with ling. ive seen subtl take 3rd with christie. ive heard of japanese tournaments where yoshimitsu wins. there are roger players in korea who win tournaments. hell i saw someone in norcal regionals use lei and beat som’s steve. people right now are getting beat by bronsons craig, panda, bruce, nina, etc.

my point is that tiers are not what is going to help you win this game.

Well, yeah, but this is just to discuss who should be where on the tier list.

Oh no tiers are important in T5 already, try winning a tourny with Lei or Kuma, your going to have quite the feet on your hands.

The more the game gets played the more it will become imminent.

Edit: And yes I did read your whole post, im the future and even now its getting really hard to almost impossible to win tournies consistently with certain characters.

there are tiers in T5. they just dont matter as much as the Capcom games. I think skill prevails overall in Tekken.

im not saying there arent tiers. im not saying that they dont exist. im just saying that the line is pretty hard to see. the line between good and bad characters is thin.

again, id like to clarify that i DO think that people should know tiers. i mean using jin against steve is just suicide.

Those two posts contradict each other, no?

perhaps. but think about other games. like mvc2 where over half the cast is in crappy tiers. when the only characters that can be used at high level are about 10 in number. or tekken 4 where jin against some characters gives him crazy advantage. where the top characters are way better than the others.

tekken 5 DOES have that (like jin vs. steve. i have been steves with jin but its not easy) but its not as bad. thats all im trying to say.

its funny. americans always talk about tiers above skill or individual. its not like that in say, Korea. I have a few friends in Seoul that tell me just about every character is used in high level of play there. they also tell me this game is over there what MvC2 was here in the US. I love how Americans always like to think that they actually got this game. not even close. Korean scrubs will take out our top players.
