Tekken 5 Tiers?

Any love for Marduk here?

i think marduk was better in tekken 4, even though he has new stuff now, tekken 4’s engine suited his style more imo. I’m not sure if this makes sense. I hate tekken 4.

edit: some marduk player qualified for nationals in chicago, i guess i’m wrong.

Please stop it. Yeah, there are many Marduk players here… Including me

The duk is much better in t5. Much better…

Weaker tackle and d+1+2 is a major problem, but…he has d+1. Win!

how many of you posters have even played the game?

I’m really disappointed at this game’s turn out of lei. I’ve used him since t3 and was crushed to see how much he got slated in 4. From what I see in high level play with him he didn’t seem to really change that much…then I gave him a shot for a while and he still seems to have lost that edge.

I wouldnt comment on a game that I havent played. And I’ve been playing t5 since in came out in the states.

and where do you play?

I would bet most of the people posted in here have and I play in Wash with guys like Zig and SLA and Eddie and Paris and Super Joe etc etc etc. Pretty good comp. Why would you even post that.

because from comments ive read it seems as if most are not very familiar with the game. thats all. seems as if people just post what theyve read and havent really experienced.

Do you have a problem with something that I posted. If you do then just say so, instead of trying to imply something. Cause if you ask a direct question Im pretty sure me and anybody else would be more than willing to give you a direct answer as to why we posted what we have.

alright i will, but first i will point out that from what ive read (not your posts in particular but some posts) people just say “i dont know why i put people there”

soooooooo

alright…

DragonSama said that he saw baek as being most played. baek isnt that good. low/decent.

storming flower said that he thought law was in top 5. maybe top 10… law isnt that good. i think that he read that somewhere. he also said that bruce could be good if he has safe stuff. he doesnt have very “safe stuff”. bruce isnt that good at all.

zigmovers list wasnt bad. i wouldnt put bryan with nina and steve. i wouldnt put law so high up there. feng isnt that good. i figure that you guys read that japan said that he was good… hes decent. now, if you switched wang with feng that something. wang is pretty good. bruce should be dropped down. yoshimitsu should be better and so should ling. ling should be in… i dont know maybe mid/upper.

it was also said that paul was “beasting”. paul is good. but just because arario and usmcogre are really good doesnt mean that the character is beasting.

now, from what ive heard from bronson, (and i dont want to start any trouble) but tom > josh. but thats not important.

FrAnkDAdAnk said that anna is better than asuka. thats incorrect… i thinkthey are close… but asuka is better. anna is good near walls though. also he bashed the tier list which was pretty decent.

MagnetoManiac was just using what he read in one post… i dont know who he thinks is the best in the world but whoever said that feng and bryan and julia are better than steve and nina… maybe those are japanese players… but a yoshimitsu player won their first tournament… so all of their characters are strong. anyways his post was just wrong

jae hoon says that king is good because he has safe pokes… d/f+1,2 is decent… but that doesnt make him good

MBurningStar says that hwoarang is in top. koreans have always played him. mdj played him in t4… mdj switched to steve.

SuperMarioBro says raven is top…

Saotome99 added that feng was top. feng is not THAT good. hes good but hes no steve/nina/bryan hes probably top 10. i uno.

Guardian says feng and raven are top. i dont think they are. also marduk is decent.

Project has a nice tier list. at least top tier looks about in order. bryan shouldnt be with nina (imo). julia isnt that good. ganryu isnt that good. yoshi isnt the worst. lee is alright. law is much better… kazuya should be higher. then deviljin then jin. deviljin > jin imo. project states that he doesnt place ling because he hasnt “heard” anything. that supports my question if you people play the game or just hear things.

Guardian while i agree that the final match at nationals will have either a nina/steve, they arent dominating tournaments. norcal tournaments have had panda, paul, steve, nina, julia, roger, king, and christie all in the top three in weekly tournaments.

Zigmover21 i agree with your statement. bronson won t4 not because julia was good but because josh didnt know how to play against her. i think that was your point.

thats all. i didnt want to sound like a dick but it just turned out that way i guess.

Ok. Sorry about the havent heard anything thats just local slang the way I was using it. Like if someone does something good with a character were like Im listening. With ling there is only one player here thats of quality with her. She seems to still have all her tricks from t4 and she was damn good in that, but I dont know much about her reguards to new stuff or any changes that might have been made. But on her t4 stuff alone that would make her upper mid but because Im not sure I wont list her. Feng is damn good. He’s punishable but he makes up for it with good pokes, fast lows, great mix ups and high damage combos…oh yeah good oki as well. definately a quality character. Thats why I list him as upper middle but the order of where he is in upper middle I cant determine yet. I placed Bryan in the top tier cause I feel that he is definately better than upper mid tier but he isnt as good and nina and steve. I guess it would actually go like Steve…nina…bryan. I feel that jin is better than djin because damage wise there isnt a great different. Djin to me does have better pokes and a better low game but jin t4 parry is still there and it’s still pretty damn good when used effectively. Not many people are placing the effort in jin because of his changes made. Although I will give it time as I find more crap with djin. But the order which the characters are listed on my tier list doesnt really matter. Because I thought that I wrote that there in no particular order outside the top three. I may not have I will double check. Its really the category that there in that matters. Yoshi is probably lower middle tier but dont confuse good yoshi players with good yoshi. Cause dispite my tier list outside of the top three there is a lot of parity if t5, and anybody can hash out a victory with there respective characters. Like I listed lee low ,but I definitely know that if I get launched near a wall its pretty much game over. The problem I have with lee is that he doesnt have enough good setups to or mix ups to bait characters into his bullshit. A good player with poke, turtle and punish the shit out of lee’s.

Your not the first to dissagree with me about jin djin but thats what Im saying its just opinions. But again you might me right about that Im just not ready to let go yet.

my reasons as why devil jin is better than jin:

jin doesnt have a quality low move. cd+4 is so slow and punishable. d+4 is very punishable. 1,d+3 is a good poke. but you have to be really close. jin has a 3 throw mixup game but that doesnt matter because people like bronson can break throws 90% of the time.

now with launching moves. cd+1, u/f+4, ws+2 are all punishable and/or slow. cd+1 is a good whiff punisher but it has to be a BIG whiff.

i think that jin has to rely on pokes. 1,2 d/f+1,4, 2,1, d+3,3 (if close). one thing that i CAN say about jin is that his b+1 moves and cancels havent been really explored as far as i know. he has pretty good movement because he can b+1,f into an instant dash and you can wavedash… so he can make up space really fast.

devil jin has the same wavedash games that hes always had. wd+4, wd+2, wd+4, wd+n+4, wd+1. has a reversal (works against scrubs and can stop rushdowns sometimes). b+1,d/f+2 is really good. if
b+1 hits there goes half of your life. his new mixups arent THAT good but they are good against average players. like d/f+2,2 or d/f+2,1. ff3+1,3… etc

however, off of low parry both are good. jin gets d3+4, b,f+2,1,d/b+2,2,3

devil jin gets b+1,d/f+2,b,f+2,1,2

Nice info, I’m looking foward to really exploiting Jin and Devil-Jin.

Anyone got any info as to how to deal with a good Bryan and Hwoarang with Jin?

I had some words with Maddogjin on msn and he told me that Bryan, Steve, Raven and Feng are top tier characters in Tekken 5(in no particular order).

Yeah jin has to rely on pokes, but this is what Im saying people can still whore his parry and it still gives a u/f+4 if your fast enough. cd+1 sucks yeah you can use it as a whiff punisher but it can be low crush and or very punishable on block. its much better to wavedash into ws+2. and u/f+4 isnt as slow or punishable as you say but the range is bad. With jin my boy successfully parried damn near all Bryans bullshit tonight. But Im going to test what you said about the low parry stuff next week cause tonight is my last night in the arcade til consoles.

Good shit.

Jin’s parry only gives you uf+4 if the move you parried has REALLY bad recovery. The advantage you gain isn’t all that great, and you can barely get 2,4 most of the time.
