OMG, this guy’s gonna take Evo. Just watch!
Why is it that Kuma/Panda continues to be listed as the lowest tier in Tekken 5? Is it because the characters image is… “Stupid”? Or is it because hese the least played?
Im telling you Kuma is NOT a low tier… I’ve mopped the floor with Kuma so many times it aint even funny. At first I took it as a joke character. But hese not only powerful, hese got some crazy ass shit goin’. Paul should be Top Tier… You really only need to do 4 moves with Paul (every other move that paul has is unecessary). You only really need to use his little Down Forearm clip, cause he can fake that out. Or instead of going down you can just do Elbow Power Punch.
Not to mention that 1 Punch he has comes out really fast. Just punish a player who messes up or turns his back on Paul and fuck them up with that one punch (not his charge-punch that takes out half the enemy’s health, the other one where Paul Yells “Heyaah or something along those lines”). You can also do that punch all you want and it will push the enemy back leaving Paul at a safe distance.
Tch… Newbs…
Sorry. I get annoyed when I see a “Tiers List”. Asuka IS NOT Mid or low either. She is the best retaliation character & Counter Attack character. Not to mention she has some pretty nice & damaging juggles (if your smart enough to figure um out).
Says the guy who doesn’t actually know what’s what with Paul or give any specific reasons why Kuma and Asuka are underrated.
If you wanna make an argument, back that shit up.
Top 5 (in no particular order)
Bryan
Steve
Nina
Paul
Bruce
Asuka is in low tier. She doesnt have the proper tools to win. What do you mean she has retaliation tools? everyone has something to punish with. f+1+2 is alright, but shitty range and its high. f+2 is unsafe and has easy to see setups even when you cancel it. to play with her in high level comp, you have to constantly poke with canned strings and hope you can sneak in a couple of crushes in there for damage. powerful juggles? hardly. low tier? yes.
bears are the worst characters in the game. i can streak with kuma but that doesnt mean shit. his best juggles are iffy at best. couple of pokes. f+1 is still good, but its been toned down since t4. his new moves will catch some people off gaurd for the first time they see it, but only the first couple of times. kuma is not a contender in tournaments.
Asuka isnt low tier or top tier, she is strictly mid tier.
You dont use her canned strings but B+4, 1+2, counters, and the 2+3 punch parry already take her out of the low tier category. Add in a good throw game, some decent lows and df 1,2 and you already have something to work with.
As said though she doesnt do great damage, she doesnt have an spammable attacks or strings and she isnt great for wall damage.
She does have a decent oki game though.
Strictly mid tier.
b+4 is a good move, but it doesnt save her from being low tier. it has MAD frames on hit, safe on block, and combos on ch, but it only tracks ssl and this is important because the time when you want to throw a b+4 is when the opponent is most likely going to be going through some movement patterns which almost always involve ssr.
1+2 is a good move. nothing wrong with it besides range, but its still one of her better moves.
yeah asuka does have counters and they do have more active frames than the normal ones but that just means it leaves her open for more time if they whiff. not to mention she doesnt have an unparrible counter (ie wang left punch counter) so chickens will start to show up if used more than once per match. 2+3 can be blocked even if it parries. d/f+1+2? trash. low parry > command low parry.
good throw game? i dont think so. d/b+1+2 is almost useless in a tournament unless you are playing someone who has no asuka experience. regular throws are whatever. command throws are alright. her com throw is DECENT at best because it cant be buffered like bryans; she has to be in fc for it to even come out.
she does have some decent lows. i wish d/b+3 would tech crouch though.
d/f+1,2 is only good if your opponent doesnt know that its mh. duckable on block = dead asuka. you can mix it up with d/f+3, but whats to stop them from just blocking?
i dont know about decent oki game either. what does she have? d/b+3. d/b+4. d/f+3. 3+4. ws+3.
d/b+3 hits them on the floor. thats all. everyone has one of these. same with d/b+4.
d/f+3 hits them if they move, but if you whiff, your at a disadvntage which could cost you a juggle.
3+4 hits on floor for decent damage, but they can get up on sight and block (unless they dont know whats up and get up bt). 3+4 on block is unsafe. also steppable which is stupid.
ws+3 hits at certain places and its pretty good. juns ws+3 was much better though. you can purposely whiff it and hope for a getup kick, which almost always will whiff, and punish with f+2.
its not quite a decent oki game compared to others.
low tier.
Bryan + Asuka + Feng = Best Oki*.
*From experience with players in my area.
bruce isnt top 5.
Kuma isnt low tier. He is better than lei from what I am see. Kuma is like in the middle. Middle mid tier if you want to call it that.
Im too lazy to actually explain every characters pros & cons. Play the character yourself (its why I described pauls fake outs. I had forgotten the name of his moves and I was just too lazy to try and remember).
The only thing that matters in Tekken (Since Tekken 4 atleast…), Is fast moves. You dont grab Ling Xiaoyu and start hopping across the level. Ling Xiaoyu is fast, but not as fast or as powerful as she was in Tekken 3, Ling should be a Low Tier. All she has going for her are her basic fast combos and her poking/counter jabs (back LP or RP, & Up+LP). If you know how to use those minor moves you can easily stop your enemy from attempting any medium/high combos. Step on the enemys leg to prevent them from doing lows.
And yeah if you haven’t noticed by now my Tekken terminology sucks but you still get what im sayin’.
Im too lazy to explain the rest of Lings useful moves. Her jabs are still pretty slow. Steve can easily have her kissing the wall. Paul just really needs to block every attack and wait for the enemy to leave themself open. If the opponent attempts to grab you, grabbing is really easy to avoid in Tekken 5 now, atleast when you already know how to avoid every characters grabs.
If the enemy is crouching too much on Asuka just D+LP. If the enemy is in the middle of a mid-high combo wait for the chain to hit the dope spot. Meaning time Asuka’s Counter Grab at the end of the last hit you blocked, you gotta do it immediately though or you’ll get caught by the next hit.
F+RP (or was it LP? Forgot) Its an easy launcher but can be easily stopped, I think it can be faked some how… Anyway her Combos can go forever too. Cancel the first sweep of that triple sweep she’s got into her basic 4 hit string rince and repeat, that sweep can be stopped during the 2nd & 3rd hit, her 4 hit LP+RK string can go on forever if you know how to cancel it into what, of course there will come a point where you gotta stop. Ending that LP+RK Combo with RK as your 4th hit is a good psyche out cause you can bring it low or up constantly.
Asuka doesn’t really need that many moves. Tekken has alot of Characters with over 100 moves and half of those characters wield useless moves (like Lings new Back Flip… Wow…).
If I wasn’t specific enough because I explaiend things too fast, too bad, Im kinda busy and I gotta go in a few minutes. Goinna read the other thread I posted in then leave.
Hwoarang should be next to steve. Hwoarang is a hard character to read. The only time you can read Hwoarang is if your opponent uses the same tactics for more than 2-3 games. Hese the ultimate Fake out. Baek is a little bitch too.
I was going to take your post seroiusly until I read this. Ling’s jabs are 8 frames just like Steve’s, Nina’s, Bryan, etc. Go watch the LOC vids on tekken.net. His Ling will have you rethinking how “low” Ling is. She’s not top 3, but she’s certainly not low tier like you think
How do you watch vids on Tekken.net. I registered and everything, but it keeps saying that all the vids have been cycled out.
That…was horrible.
um…
b+1 has like, zero range.
ling is not low tier. ling easily demands creativity on part of the user, a lot of it due in part to her multitude of movement options. however, as far i can tell, she has no huge advantages, which does not make her top either.
my opinion on asuka:
i don’t know, but she just feels slow. i don’t feel like i have a lot of options after i block.
oki game is… decent. no tech traps, i don’t think.
she also seems to lack a lot of range. f+1+2 i miss a lot when trying to punish whiffs.
damage doesn’t seem to be anything special.
if i’m not mistaken though, she has no good wall finishers? 3+4 maybe.
i can totally see why people would consider her low tier.
i haven’t played against a good asuka though, so i don’t know.
whoever said asuka’s com throw cant be buffered is wrong. she can store the move by being FC,d/f,d walk forward and d/f1+2 and the juggle throw will happen. you can also do FC,d/f walk forward d,d/f1+2. you get about 2 seconds of free time to move after storing it. but shes still low tier. her best wall combos is probably that punch into sweep move. f+2, b2,1,3, f+1+2 is her air juggle which does decent damage but is bad due to the fact that her launcher isnt safe. its only for punishing whiffs. WS3 is the best launcher but doesnt guarantee the b2,1,3, f+1+2. the f+1+2 is iffy. its better to replace f+1+2 with d+2 when you launch with WS3. theres no real way to hurt the enemy without waiting for a mistake because she lacks offense as a whole. when compared to a real toptier she doesnt seem to have anything going for her.
Asuka is my main character and I play some of the best in south florida.
She can easily hold her own against almost everyone.(law and wang are very bad match ups.)
she seems slow? You have to remember that shes a counter character. The reason your missing f+1+2 is because you dont know its range yet.It can punish a death fist on block. So its not that bad.
1,2,4 and 1,2,3 are safe on block.those are decent pokes and the 4 on 1,2,4 leads to a crumple stun on CH.
She has a great floor game.
3~4,3+4 d+3+4 b+1+3 4 moves for every situation
3~4 if the tech there down again. Also if they get up and are standing.
3+4 if there ducking.low crush if they low kick on wake up.Also if they stay down.
d+3+4 is a better low crush which leads to launch and big dmg.works best on low get up kicks
b+1+3 stops wake up mid kicks dead. :badboy:
My main strat with asuka is to keep people down and make them stay there. You dont want law or paul on there feet so you have to keep them grounded.
EDIT:I feel shes mid tier.not low not top just mid.
feng wei is too good
she’s top tier.
Christ, it’s DEFINITELY guaranteed. I don’t know what people have problems with. Gotta make sure b+2,1,3 comes out ASAP. It’s also best to hold a punch so you can buffer the f+1+2.
Overall, Asuka’s not bad, but she’s kinda mediocre in some key areas. Her jab punishment is shit (gets 1 into mid/low mixup; uhm, yay), and her combo variety is pretty bad. She can hurt you, but finding new stuff without sacrificing damage is difficult.
Her crush options are nice. uf+4 and uf+3 are great, and she’s got a variety of strong high crushes. Her post-throw wakeup’s pretty good, and she’s got an easy tech catch setup via 1,2,3~b into 3~4. db+2 avoids all sorts of stuff, and ff+2 avoids everything else, lol. db+1+2 is HELLA annoying and makes for an awesome frame trap.
She seems like an incomplete character, frankly. I wish they would’ve ditched all the scrubby string nonsense carried over from Jun (which got weaker anyway), and focused on giving her more tools.
Hehe, people are still debating about this??? Tiers are tiers, who cares. Play your game and win with the character that you are playing with. Look at JOP for example. Jack-5, man that’s amazing. Do that instead wasting your time debating about these things.
JP
P.S. Anyone got any footage of that tourney that NIN won?? Anyone?? Cause I would like to see how he did againts Leedy, seeing Leedy was the one that took him out of the Nats.
uh
how is jop winning with jack amazing? jack is a pretty good character and add that up with jops skill = very damn good.
