Tekken 5 Tiers?

Got it, thanks jae hoon and Zig.

I played a few friends last night, and I did pretty good. Eight win streak or so, which ain’t half bad in my opinion ;p.

Another thing, I love db+3. It’s so sneaky. KC also mentioned her jab being fast, and it is really freaking fast. I also make use of her counters often. Long story short, I love playing Asuka, but I do want to learn someone else, does anyone have any suggestions? Who can I ‘upgrade’ to so to speak?

Her jab’s a plain old 10 framer. Speed is definitely not one of her strengths, and she has no real jab punishment. You get a mixup between 1,2 and 1,3. Uhm…yay.-_-

Well there I go making a fool of myself again. Sorry.

Anyways:

Suggestions?

What the heck? You saw me writing about Asuka and all you saw were the words “jab” and “fast”? I was asking if anybody knew how fast her jab came out because I was losing up close to other people’s jabs.

This little kid I know uses Ling. If anybody else here thought Asuka was hard to hit, Ling is absolutely evil. I can’t believe how much crap that dumb Phoenix stance of hers goes under. My Kazuya f+2? Asuka’s standing 2 launcher even. I don’t remember if it went under my 1+2, but that thing sucks for Asuka up close anyway. All of Ling’s Phoenix stance attacks are fast enough to hit you out of it. That Bradygames guide is garbage for listing 1+2 as Asuka’s best move on her “top ten moves”, like you can just spam it all day. You’re suppose to use it as a whiff punisher after a successful sidestep instead. Don’t ever do the attack unless you see a whiff first.

Anyway, Ling was hitting me with a float combo after her Mat Sweep move (FC, df+4 I think it is). Any time after I got juggled with f, f+1+2, 1+2, I was seriously feeling the pain as well. Ling’s combos aren’t as easy to do as Asuka’s (the kid was doing some fancy thing with muliple iWS+2 moves), but if you’re a creepy white guy like me with a disturbing Asian fetish who LOVES Asuka, then Ling should be right up your alley as well.

With Asuka against Ling use d/f 3, it hits, does good damage and leaves them for some possible Oki games. You also have d+2 which cracks her in the head, kinda slow but its something. D/B 3 of course. And you might be able to catch them with a 3+4 if there not paying attention. Remember Ling cant block in Phoenix Stance. Also you can use B+1 against Ling if your smart about it. You can also use Asuka’s sweep.

About Asuka’s counter be careful, if your using the basic B 2+4 or B 1+3 counters against good people they will catch on. Then they will either bait your counter to chicken you, chicken anymove they think might be countered, or just turtle there ass off.

Asuka’s 2+3 punch parry is pretty good though, if you can time it right.

Also just for FYI, with Asuka’s 1,2,4 string, if the 4 hits on the counter, you get a free air juggle out of it. Just incase it ever actually happens.

And if you want an upgrade as you put it, play Nina.

Lee is deffibetly not low tier. His damaging juggles have been discovered. See the comb vid at tz in the lee strat thread!

Uhm, it’s also a reasonably fast mid that’s safe on block. Definitely one of her best moves. Don’t diss it just 'cause you can’t spam it, she’s not a spam character.

FC df+4 doesn’t launch, you’re like thinking of SS+3. The basic combo off that is b+3, BT 2,1, ff+1+2,1+2.

His damaging combos have been known, they just all require walls. Thats the biggest problem Lee has, the lack of damage with stages with no walls. Even Brian can still do good damage with the walls. It seems Lee’s sole gameplan depends upon them. Imo he is pretty low tier.

Zig is right to 1+2 is good, people tend to overhype it alot though. You just have to learn when to use it. Its not going to beat out an 8 frame jab alot of the times, which is what I think alot of people were looking for.

@ KC:

Sorry about that.

Just trying to squeeze myself into the discussion somehow ^_^;.

Ironically, Xiyaou is who I played before Asuka. I could never get in on my opponent with Xiyaou, it was a bit frustrating. Asuka is much more flexible and comfortable to me.

@ jae hoon:

Not THAT much of an upgrade ;p!

Can someone talk Bruce?

All I know is that you(I) gotta turtle and poke for the most part. I poke with shin kicks at far-range(f,n,d/f+3) and mid-range(1,2,d+4. 2,d+4. d+4. d/f+3,d+4. b+4,3,d+4) then mix it up with the middle-hitting variations after a good while. If they are in my face I try to launch with d/f+2(just because I can’t b,f+4 on the fly) then juggle with 3,3~b+4,3,4. I b+3 everyonce in a while then I do b+3,4 to suprise them then I go for the juggle or just throw if the 4 counter hits. My oki game with him is weak, I usually just let them get up after hitting with a simple d+4. If they are down with thier head facing me I go for d/f+3,1(the 1 hits sometimes, i’m not sure of the properties).

I like CD+3,d/f+3,d+4,throw. Bryan gets on my nerves.

Im going to start learning Anna just for the fuck of it. Ive been playing Asuka and King almost nonstop, and im just ready to try another character.

Thanks, I didn’t know she had this new SS move. Great damage too (61/65ch).

I swear I was seeing something with sweep followed by one of those hand moves out of the Phoenix stance into some juggle though. I might of been getting punished for doing the wake-up rolls now that I think about it…

Chibi:
Those Bayonet moves Ling has are annoying. 1, 2 and 1, d+2. I don’t know much about Tekken frame data, but those have to be 8 frame jabs if I’ve ever seen one. I kept getting hit or forced to block those, (2, 1), and the df+1 belly chop. I never played Ling for myself so I don’t know how hard it is, but those moves seem to get her in really easily.

I hate looking at and playing people who mash out precanned strings all day, random newbie Asuka players being the worse offenders, so I’ll look for some new characters too. Every character in the game other than her… lol

Ever seen an Asuka player spam b+1,WS+1(CH),f+2,f+4 all day? It gets annoying real fast until you learn to wait it out.

C’mon somebody show Bruce some love.

That works as a poking string?

WS = While standing (or something completely different?

No it doesnt

WS or WR: Yeah its while standing or while rising, samething.

Not always, WR has been know has been used and known as while rising.

this thread sucks… all i know is, on +0 damage, Nina is annoying as fuck to play against unless you are really smart. Bryan and Raven are pretty bad too. I mean Raven and Bryan do 80% on stages w/ walls for going high or low on them. My biggest beef w/ Mishimas in this game are, there hellsweeps don’t duck highs at all. I can’t tell if they are slower or easier to see, but I know wavedash CCs to ws2 are slower w/ DJin.

Raven’s wall game isn’t that unique anymore, plus it’s a lot harder than most characters to get max damage. The spacing requirement for f+3+4,4,2 is a lot stricter than just “run up and do this canned string”, lol. Marduk, Anna, Lee, and Bruce got tight wall games as well. Marduk’s wall game went from shit to top tier in a single week!! Thank God for console. 'course I’d say Raven’s a better character than all of them, save for Bruce, but he’s pretty damn punishable.

People like myself talk to the koreans. That is how some of us know what is going on there.

NiN said she was trash and picked up feng. I think he might go back tho…

lol, allow NiN, rejecting good tings for EZ LOL good tings.

Feng is fucking shit! =DDDDDD
