the dremmel is useful unless you have the time and strength to grind or cut metal and plastic by hand.
bottom line to do the mod you have cut down the screws, cut part of the plastic on the jlf and cut off the tabs on the metal plate where the button holes are. you’ll know what i’m talking about once you take everything apart and try to fit the sanwa parts in there.
i thought it would be harder than it was but once i had a dremmel i was able to mod 2 of these things in an afternoon.
here’s a recent mod i did
ls-32 01
seimitsu buttons screw ins except for the reds. I ran out of parts
went with the original art but will change it later once i find something to match
oh and i painted it white. That enamel was was dry and stuck on there in like 2-3 hours ready to go. without primer good stuff.
ive only played it a couple of times so not a lot of handling has been done. However the enamel feels like its on there really good and not any of the enamel has chipped from the bottom which is where it ismost likely to happen in my opinion.
Also the enamel i used was some extra-strong/ industrial use, or something like that, it should on there pretty good and the finish is very very smooth
ill try to post some pics of the inside later. Thanks
haven’t been able to locate them at any of the gamestops i’ve visited - wonder if fry’s will do pricematching? i remember seeing many units there. is there some sort of ad that i can point to for reference?
hmm Im surprized most of everyone is keeping all 8 buttons, since its not the “regular” button count. I will be getting button plugs to cover the extra holes.
Can you post some pics of your wiring? I was thinking about doing this- but how would you secure the original pcb to the bottom if it was originally held in place by being soldered directly to the buttons?
I would take more but it’s just kind of a hassle to open up the T5 stick. It’s very easy to do though. Just use some stranded wire and put those through the holes where the Hori microswitches connected to the board. Solder in place and you’re good to go.
As for securing the PCB, this can be done any number of ways.
You could screw it down into the bottom plastic (I’m actually not sure if there is clearance to do this though)
You could use mounting tiles and some nylon ties
You could use hot glue if you really wanted to
You can use some double-sided tape
Personally I didn’t even bother securing it, but if I wanted to , I would probably use screws and nuts to secure it to the plastic (after checking to see if this was possible. Now that I think about it, it might not be).
Ok so after re-modding a Pelican Real Arcade with Ultimate stick and buttons (what I’m used to) and comparing my game play to the T5 stick, I totally suck with the T5 stick. I know the T5 has a square gate but this makes me not pull QCFs or dragon punches as easily as I can with the PRA. I was planning on buying the octagonal gate from Himura but he hasn’t responded to my quote emails, and after reading a few articles I still can’t believe that the octagonal gate will make the stick feel more American. Can anyone testify on how much the octagonal gate on the T5 feels like an American stick?
Octagonal gate = ownage. I can’t use the sanwa stick without it because it allows you to tell exactly where all 8 corners are.
About Himura- he says he might be taking a short break because of personal issues. So you might wanna order from TNRG if you don’t get a response from Himura.
I might have to start getting parts from TNRG too because of the 3 sticks I don’t have parts for…
cool. questions: what did you do for the top on the stick shown here. or is that just blank without the T5 art?
the mirror finish is badass. what section would i look in at the autoparts store for some mirror finich sticky stuff? is there like a product/brand name? did you cut it to fit the shape, or wrap it around to the back?
lots of questions, sorry. looks great though, i might steal your idea.
I’m new to modding and I recently got one of these sticks. If I try to mod it should I be worried about ruining or destroying it by making some small mistake? I really want to try and add better buttons and stick, but I just want to know if it’s a dumb idea for me to try and do this without any experience.
I wanna go get one,but I am afraid the Gamestop people are going to be on some bullshit and tell me that it still goes fro 100 dollars or 70 dollars.Lazy fuckers
Its not gonna say 30 on the box but when they scan it, it should be the right price. When I bought my second one the guy brought it out and scanned it and was like “Wow I paid 100 for this when it came out and now its 30 thats a steal, Im gonna get one tonight” lol and this was just 5 days ago.
