It still provides an intimidating factor when you dance around your opponent. It’s a bit difficult to hit a moving target.
It’s also a great mindgame because if you’re doing it, you’re pretty much welcoming a tracking move. So it pretty much limits the guessing game on what your opponent will do. But then again this is all theories here. I think that shit is good as hell in 5.0. Not so much in DR. But it still has it’s uses. Especially to the chars that are weak vs SS.
Is it me or is Bryan Fury just hard to be offensive with? He just seems to have limited low options. To me Bryan’s all about punishing your opponents mistakes. But I have great difficulty baiting reactions which would be in my favour to punish afterwards.
Any help?
Two vids of the sidestep cancel being used by DJ Kor.

Here are some vids of the Sin Man and jnkzm/iaaa sidestep cancelling.
well you keep trying to master side step cancel. enjoy wasting your time on it. when i see people do that. i just stand there and fucking look at them. they eventually have to stop and do something. im not intimidated by it at all. i used to be when i first got into tekken, but after playing the top players in md for a while. i got used to it, and after understanding the game more, i didnt even flinch when i saw it. to me it was just nice to watch, but other than that, whatever. it is useful, like i said, but it aint all that to me. but when i was a super scrub, that shit fucked me up all the time, because i didnt understand the game, and would throw out some stupid fucking side steppable move and then get owned.
if you see someone side step cancelling or hayashida stepping hardcore on you. just be patient. if there ssc’in to your right, then walk to your left to square up with them and if you wanna attack, throw out a move that will track their ass, and is safe.
you should practice more on side stepping properly and side walking properly. i dont see people abuse the side walk as much as they could. mostly because they dont know how to use it properly. theyll just randomly do it, and eat a launcher. when i first started playing tek5 seriously. i used to play against a guy named rugal occasionally. he is/was the best tekken player in md. he would walk the shit out of everyone. seasoned players and scrubs. not because we were wiffin stupid shit, or sucked. just because he knew when to do it.
jinmaster was over my boys house a while ago, and they were playing each other and he was speaking on the same thing. that alot of people are playing tek5/dr like ttt. there side stepping, and not abusing the side walk. probably mainly because alot of people skipped tek4 or didnt take it seriously. this is coming from jinmaster. even he, a top level player, notices that side walk isnt used as much as it could or should be, and as of a few weeks ago, i started realizing that truth about just walking the fuck around. its very rewarding. especially for a character like bryan, and many others. anyways
bryan has been called a pretty linear character. especially in dr is where this mainly started, but he isnt that much different then he was in tek5. other than some property changes. bryan is a poke, punish character. the why duck thing really applies to tek5 bryan too. you can see snake edge from a mile away. that shit only hits randomly when you catch somebody wiffin or just a random crush. other than that, you can see that shit from a mile away. so basically its no good. other than that, he only has, d+4, d+3, d/b+3. i use d4 and db3 for poking people that dont wanna block low, because they honestly dont have much to fear, but after a while it gets to everyone and thats when the eat one of many of his nice ass mids. in tek5, you would eat that b+1, and on a wall board, say goodbye to your fucking life. b1 is still good in dr, but it only juggles on ch, and that sucks my ass. plus his retarded death wall combo is gone, but whatever. anyways. bryan is best played as a poker. poke and bait something stupid. watch poking with 1, 2’s all the time. use those fucking safe mids for whatever character your playing with, and in bryans case, use those fucking mids for some nice safe poking. its to easy to get into the habit of poking with jabs and then get randomly crushed and raped when someone realizes thats all you do to try to bait. ive gotten to the point where i barely use jabs to poke, unless its a sure thing. to many advance players just rape that shit. use those safe mids. but be sure to play mind games too.
bryan is toned down in dr, but he can still be abusive to his opponents. a newb bryan is easy to own. you can sidewalk bryan, but you have to space that shit out good. ive side walked his u/f+4, and his b1, but they track like a mother at certain distances. so spacing is a big thing you want to work on too. i learned that shit also. you would be better off learning bdc before you waste energy on mastering the ssc
i dont know. thats my 2 cents
It’s not hard to master. Its easier than bdc and evades better. Also the point isn’t to use it the whole match, but to use it for even more mindgames. Like you said you could just stand there against it right? But what if the opponent is in the lead and he’s just doing it? You’re going to have to run in and do a tracking move, which will be to the opponents advantage cause he knows that you’re going to do it.
If you look at the videos posted, you see that it’s not all they do, it’s something implemented into their game. And IMO it’s a lot better than you guys think, it’s so stupidly easy and evades hella shit.
I know it can be stopped, but you have to change your game to do it.
You don’t have to do u~b~u~b - u/b~u/b or even u/f~u/f does the trick.
Cool thanks for the reply. Its just that you look at character like Paul, Ganryu, etc that are very good at being offensive and baiting reactions to me its a mission to play that way with Bryan. And yeah I totally understand you when you say that Bryan can be seen as very linear.
A scrub in need… or am I a newb… hmmm. Anyway sorry if this was mentioned in here but it would be difficult to sift through (can’t get search to work) plus by now maybe things changed. I guess what I am looking for is a Feng Wei faq for DR. What are basic things I need to know? What are the need to know combos, set ups, mix ups moves ect. Plus I don’t quite get the ~ sign and a few other things so keep it real simple if you can. Thanks a lot. I really need some help… only played t5 on console and getting killed in arcades here but I am improving. Playing in Japan so the competion is pretty good. thanks again…
I hate to say this but, one of the biggest things that pisses me off in T5 in general was the molester step (your ss cancel as you say it) I found it so fucking scrubby to do, any kid could learn it and like evade so many moves it wasn’t even funny.
A real movement / evasion skill that I would reccommend is backdash cancel. That’s really a great spacing tool that can help to create whiffs and you can dash in and punish or do w/e. I just don’t like seeing people mash on db~ repeatdely and think they are some super good player, it seems so scrubby.
Ofcourse this is my own opinion, you have to do anything it takes to win so w/e. I just prefer an actual BDC, like it just seems an overall more important spacing tool. I’ve seen mainly pad players do molester step though, like the only stick players who do it were like some random japanese players. Koreans all use bdc, they hardly use molester step. But it’s your choice to do w/e you want.
I can’t wait for DR on ps3, at least then I can go my friend’s place to play instead of shelling out so much money in the arcade~!
Is TDR getting an online patch soon?
MarkMan is my fucking hero. Check his mini tutorial on TZ, in the T5DR GD ps3 DR thread, to buy the game from the HK sony store. Worked like a charm for me.
Playing it right now due to the wonderful guide. Too bad there’s no practice mode
Wait, wait, wait, what’s the Credit Card work around for the HK store exactly? They have the info at TZ but with all the zanyness the info isn’t all there. :looney:
And just stuff about the PS Store in general. Hydra? Anyone? :wonder:
HOW TO DOWNLOAD TEKKEN 5: DARK RESURRECTION FROM THE HONG KONG PS NETWORK
Note: Before doing this make sure you have a Visa or Mastercard Credit Card/Debit Card(In some cases you may need 2 cards).
-
Create a new log in on your PS3 system.(Far left of the XMB menu).
-
Sign up for the PS Network(Far right). Make a master account.
-
Fill in all information accordingly, choose Hong Kong as your country.
-
Under street address put in a random number and street name. For region just pick a random one, for example I picked Kowloon/Kowloon Bay.
-
Enter in your billing information, make sure you’re accurate!
-
Once you finish setting up your account, go back to the Account Management and add funds to your wallet. What you’re going to do now is add 40HKD twice. This will give you a total of 80 HKD. (Why are we doing this? Because for some reason when authorizing the credit/debit cards it will not complete the transaction when authorizing 80 or more HKD at a time;Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is 125HKD). So now that you have 80 HKD. Exit the account management and go into the PlayStation Store.
-
Choose the DL for Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection. Once doing so it will ask you to confirm and once you do it will show that there is a remaining balance owed of 45HKD. Authorize the transaction and you should be good to go! If it does not work on the PS Store screen you will have to use another card(Edit billing information on the account management screen of the PS Network(Far right on XMB).
For the billing address and all that, just make up an address. Or use the same as the one you registered there originally. Most ppl are getting it to work alright, in some cases you will have to contact your bank or credit card company to authorize. But that’s only been a few cases.
Too cool, I’m at 34% download. I’ve never played either arcade or PSP versions, so I’m having a heart attack with excitement right now.
Hey it doesn’t let me choose my country, it’s just stuck on USA
Anything i can do? Can you share with me Markman?
