Teenage Mutant Ninja...Aliens?

Michael Bay is probably no stranger to an asshole-widening. Have you seen the way he directs? Highly homoerotic.

The other problems I have with changing the story are as follows:

First of all I think when translating from one medium to another it’s a bit of a dick move and a slap in the face in a megalomaniacal sort of way to change fundamental things about the source material unless it’s absolutely necessary. Spiderman being the product of a genetically engineered spider vs. a radioactive one makes a hell of a lot of “sense.” I can also tolerate the organic web shooters because while him needing money to buy web fluid, and running out at inconvenient times was great for comic book plot devices, it wasn’t necessary for the movies, and also could have taken time away from the plot. I get that.

I can only guess at this point, but I don’t see how changing the origin of the Turtles from Mutant to alien will streamline the plot. Telling the origin story either way will take just as long.

The other problem that I have is that since it’s Michael Bay it’s kinda like he just said fuck it, let’s do organic Transformers. Fuck having to go a different direction. Instead of Cybertron they’re from Amphibion or some bullshit. It just seems lazy.

Also as for the Shredder being a minor part of the story… no, no he isn’t. Especially for a movie. The Shredder is a great movie villian. Sinister name, sinister look. Ninja Master, decades old arch nemesis. He’s got it all without being too campy.

The Raimi Spidey movies made Parker less of a struggling college student who had to make ends meet for web fluid. If the webbing is unlimited, more money to spend on other stuff. It’s up to you to decide how relevant it is to show that Peter’s a broke superhero (in contrast to billionaire heroes or private/government benefactors for other superheroes), and whether that belongs on film. The new movie series thinks it belongs. I also take issue with the Raimi movies using Gwen Stacy drastically different from the comics… but hey, tons of people love the Raimi movies (sans part 3), so whatever.

The Shredder’s a small part of the first comic’s timeline, that’s just a fact. When I think of an arch-nemesis, I think of a villain who’s alive as long as the protagonist(s). Not somebody who was killed in the first issue and replaced by his organization. Like, I’m not sure how many people would consider the long-dead Green Goblin to be Spider-man’s arch enemy, even though he was an important part of the (original) Spider-man story. Either way, Spider-man moved on and got involved in other events and fought other villains. But the Turtles in cartoons and movies have been fighting the ‘Green Goblin’ for ages, instead of adapting and developing other villains who have potential for mainstream consumption.

The original Shredder was an important (and infinitely interesting) villain, but he wasn’t “the guy” throughout the series except in the licensed work. To argue differently almost helps the argument of licensed adaptations switching things around, if it makes the material more entertaining or easier to follow.

Raimi Spidey tended to use MJ as the Gwen Stacy type anyway, which is understandable, given MJ’s mainstream popularity compared to Gwen’s relative anonymity. You’d have to be a reader to even know Gwen existed, or to know that MJ is a bit… you know, wild. (Re. slutty.)

Just treat Dunst as a red-headed Gwen and it makes sense.

It’s probably not so important to know Pete was broke, so much as it was important to know that Pete was struggling to maintain his double life. Not quite the same thing, though it’s probably something they had to force more and more as Pete aged in the comics. It’s easier for a 30 year old to make excuses for himself, as opposed to a teenager.

Tmnt will be ruined. just like transformers.

I said it once before, Michael Bay should just do Power Rangers instead. Explosions? check. Fast vehicles and robots from outer space? check. An excuse to destroy whole cities and use alot of CGI? check. Someone needs to tell him asap, before alot of the more important nostalgia gets ruined through his vision.

Random thought, but this is what I envision SRK to be like in real life for some reason. Especially the moderators walking around like Tatsu.

 1. There is no villain more important to Peter Parker than Green Goblin. The only other two arguable ones are Mephisto, which I’m not touching because fuck One More Day, and of course the thief that killed Uncle Ben but that’s not really applicable here. He killed his first love, he killed Ben Reilly, He knocked up Gwen Stacy, and it would eventually corrupt and lead to the death of one of his closest friends Harry. Even the original intent/design of Hobgoblin was to recapture the success and effectiveness of Green Goblin. Ignoring the half assed nature of certain retcons (such as Harry’s) you will not find a villain who would apply to being Spider-Man’s arch nemesis like the Goblin. That’s not to sell the other villains short, but Spider-Man has never truly had a Joker type nemesis however Goblin is definitely the closest one.

 2. As said earlier, there is nothing wrong with taking some artistic liberties when licensing a cartoon or comic. The difference here is it’s Michael Bay, so it’s probably going to be rubbish. When a guy with an awful track record, critically at least clearly he does fine commercially sadly, is the one behind this there is little reason to be happy or excited about it.

 3. Shredder is THE GUY to anyone who has ever heard of TMNT in the licensed work so ultimately that’s all that matters. He is the most recognizable villain to anyone who has ever either watched the show(s), played the games, or was a parent forced to buy the merchandise for their child. Yes he’s ultimately a career jobber, but that’s more to do with the unfortunate circumstance of being in a show for children. He has a great menacing look, name, tie to Splinter, and could definitely be taken more serious with the right direction. Now I’m not saying Krang can’t work either, but it all comes down to point 2 where you look at who is in charge and it all goes to shit.

just give him power rangers. theirs like a million fuckin versions of the damn show. you literally cant fuck up 5 kids with giant robots.

Bay would find a way…

i mean i assume he gets hard on’s for explosions…he should be jizzing at the thought of this:

Classic. Best mail delivery system ever.

she deserved it for the racism she spewed lol. “am i late on my sony payments again?”

I don’t know why but she was sexy as hell to me back then. It had something to do with her red hair.

The original movie and the 2k3 are the only things outside of the comics that are worth paying attention to when it comes to TMNT. The rest is garbage.

To be fair, if you’re Japanese and you’re skulking around in a modern-day American city in a frickin’ ninja outfit… you kind of have to expect some racism.

I haven’t read Spider-man in years, and I missed the part where Norman Osborn returned from the dead and is apparently Spider-man’s ally and wearing an Iron Man suit. WHAT. I thought the Green Goblin saga was done when he ‘died’ after Stacy’s death.

Yeah, Bay is shit, I said that a few times already. At the same time, a Bay production would still be shit if TMNT was given the familiar adaptation everyone’s seen already. So really, Michael Bay has nothing to do with this argument.

That’s true, but that doesn’t make their attitude any less stupid, stubborn, misinformed etc. If the mainstream public got what they wanted, the only version of TMNT “that matters” would be the focused-tested toy commercial with Shredder’s idiot henchmen and stupid ways for the Turtles to avoid using their weapons. I’m not saying the Mirage comics is the bible that has to be followed to the letter, but it should be a blueprint. TMNT is one part Frank Miller homage and one part Heavy Metal magazine. The TMNT universe has a lot more to offer than Turtles fighting the Foot and the Shredder over and over, and over and over, again. The 2003 series proved that, even though he was basically the main villain for most of the series. It’s not that I don’t like the Shredder or think he isn’t important to the story, but cartoons/movies/etc. have adapted the same footnote of the TMNT storyline for 25 years. They can do something with the license that hasn’t been done a million fucking times before, and the comics are right there to show them how.

maybe its the paranoid black man in me, but if i see a gang of ninjas…i dont talk to shit to them.

Anyone else get the feeling Bay is going to have April make out with “Raphael”?

Bah too much quotes to track…many quotes.

 1. I think I’mone of two people who doesn’t throw up in their mouths when they find out Bay is directing. It means nothing to me. Fuck it trill talk time. People rag on him primarily because of Transformers…where he took a kid series that honestly wsan’t about shit, tried ot make it about shit, and made it a CG smorgisborg. Get over it. Seriously.

 2. Speaking of Transformers, it is the EXACT same as TMNT in this…we are talking a ‘kids’ series that is WAY DEEPER than 99% of the people who know the TMNT - know about. Ask the average joe about Transformers and they can list 3-5 Prime/Megatron/Starscream/Soundwave…Hot rod/Bumblebee shrug. They don’t know the different ‘ethnicities’. They don’t know how extensive the comics are…the average joe dosn’t even know their are Transformer comics sort of some shit that owuld come with a box of cereal. tMNT is no different. 99% of people don’t know there wasa comic book first. 99% of people don’t know they only wore a single color and actually killed people. 99% of people who know Turtles, associate it with the first animated show, and the first couple of movies…oh and the games licensed from those properties. Therefor ‘Shredder’ is THE bad guy (1), (2) there is no space element. Krang is an acceptable replacement for villain so long as Shredder is stll #2…because that is what people expect. Megatron wasn’t the only villain in the TF universe, but thats who is afiliated with the bad guys. Shredder is no different.

 3. The Alien angle is doable…it can even be used as a ploy to capture them in the 1980s/early90s “We always hear broadcast from ‘X’-year while cruising around dude.” I’ve ironically thought about the mutagen angle, and in this day and age it just doesn’t make sense…people know too much bout DNA and the such to think that simply being coated in something wil lchange your DNA. Only thing that could do that would be radioactive in nature…and thus the turtles are more likely to grow tumors than fingers…so I’m FINE with the alien angle.

 4. Krang better be inside ‘Greg Ostertag’'s stomach…

 • :bluu:

This is a movie about giant talking turtles and you think people will complain how the mutagen mutated them?
