Teenage Mutant Ninja...Aliens?

and where are krang, rocksteady, and bebop

Saw it last night, and seriously, this movie was freaking awesome. I loved everything about it.

I’m nearly 33 and I own the original trilogy on bluray and am a big fan of the first film, but I thought this movie was great. I wasn’t expecting it to be the same story as the original, and I’m glad it wasn’t, because if I wanted that same story, I’d watch the bluray in my basement.

But this movie was just flat out fun. I had a smile on my face the whole movie. The whole theater applauded at the end of the flick (although I didn’t because I think it’s dumb since it’s not a live audience, but still when peopel clap, that is a good sign) and at another part in the movie (the elevator scene). So regardless what the people paid to watch movies and review them say, I think that the general public who is watching this movie for entertainment is really enjoying it.

Fuck bebob and rocksteady. Outside of the idw universe they’re worthless.

Pretty much. Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady were created for the 80’s cartoon. B and R will definitely be in the sequel to this year’s movie, however. Maybe we’ll get a ninja fox or 2 (SOME mutant has to be the brains of the bunch…this version of Karai ain’t shit…aaaaand sheeeee…looka like a man).

That’s the only sad part ive heard so far is how karai is so downplayed when she was a major force in a lot of the tmnt universes.

just saw it, good movie. them fight scenes had a nigga sweatin. shredder was not fuckin around

Fuck what you fools heard, but this movie was actually solid. My goodness those fight scenes delivered and did not expect them to be at this scale. The April + Turtle connections and Karai not being fine is one of my problems of the movie, however the action scenes made up for it.

Shredder why you so good?

im glad to hear everyone liked the stunts. all my boys were the turtles cgi actors. im glad they were involved…i knew the min i heard they were it was gonna be some good ass fights.

quick thoughts

-the movie was actually ok
-not feeling the foot with ar 15’s and shooting anything moving on sight
-not feeling the bulky new armor of the shredder.
-not feeling ninja not being ninja (the foot)
-not feeling how much time april got on screen
-not feeling splinters new look
-however the movie’s action scenes were cool
-the turtles were the turtles as far as personality
-the shredder was japanese thank God
-the updated story is…eh…but has potential

there was no way this movie could touch the feel of the first one. different era for NY. NY is nowhere near as gritty…its less believable that something like the foot, ESPECIALLY with grenades and ar 15’s could freely roam around NY, have this particular plot and the federal govt doesn’t step in.

now 1990 NY with the foot, as ninja, running around stealing shit? believable. 1990 NY was gritty as fuck. you had strung out bums laid out on the streets, pick pockets, ppl getting their brains blown out in broad daylight, etc.

2014 NY? you have hipsters from iowa with funny looking mustaches and beards running around former dangerous neighborhoods with long boards and shit. no way a MILITIA running around midtown manhattan planning to release a nerve agent or whatever would have succeeded. i know, i know, suspension of belief…but yeah. no.

but with all of that said, i will still watch part 2 lol and bay, even tho he took liberty with the story, he didn’t fuck it up too much. its straight. i enjoyed what i saw overall. please more screen time for the turtles next movie tho.

for good or ill,** Sequel is due June 3, 2016!**

TMNT makes 65 million for the weekend, pushing Guardians to 41 million.

I saw the movie yesterday…it was meh.

Much like every bay film they decided to focus more on human characters as opposed to the main attraction. Villain sucked, side characters sucked and outside the turtles the rest of the film was meh. I suppose as a compliment I’ll say it’s at least as good as a low tier marvel film.

Not gonna bash the movie, or your opinion, as I have yet to see it.

However, these sentiments are eerily similar to that of the first Transformers film:

An “okay” screenplay

Questionable changes to canon and characters

Odd design choices for the cast compared to their previous incarnations*(I actually like the style of the Turtles though, makes sense to have them adapt whatever they find into ninja implements)*

Human characters getting more screentime than the creatures in the title

Bay shoehorning in Military elements due to his US Military connects

Decent action scenes

All coming together to make a movie that is “an okay” viewing, yet still somehow manages to blow away box office revenue records.

This movie is not bad like the first Transformers movie. I wasn’t blown away and there were things I didn’t like but I wasn’t offended by it like Transformers. It’s nothing stellar but unless you’re one of those people who hate Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine because he isn’t 5’3, you should be able to enjoy this movie.

Spoiler

There are some pretty stupid things in this movie though. My personal favorite is that the bad guys want to release a plague on the city in which the only antidote is in the turtles blood. The part that cracks me up is they don’t even bother to test it to makes sure it works. They just get some blood and are like okay, release the toxin and possibly wipe out humanity. Hell, they don’t even bother stockpilling the antidote.

Just came back from watching it. It’s not bad. Didn’t really care for the origin story and how they learned ninjitsu.

Karai was useless. She didn’t really do anything. It would’ve been cool if she went up against the turtles.

Best part was the turtles’ personalities, which I thought was spot on. I think it would’ve been cool to show how each turtle developed their personalities; instead, you just have to accept that that’s how they are.

The fights involving Shredder was good. I didn’t think they’d have him moving around like that in something that looks bulky. One question though: [details=Spoiler]shouldn’t Shredder be an old man if he took in that Sacks guy during the Vietnam war?[/details]

Caring about canon for stuff like tmnt and transformers is dumb. There are so many different versions and generations that a new generation can put their spin on the source material and be successful. Which is the only thing I defend about the transformers movies. The movies were just bad. But most people who enjoy them don’t know gen 1 transformers. Which is fine.

I don’t mind that people like the 80’s tmnt cartoon. Do I think the 80’s cartoon is fucking stupid and pointless? You bet. But as long as they look to each tmnt generation with an open mind I’m cool.

Saw the movie:

This movie had the chance to have been great. Unfortunately I left the theater thinking it was mediocre at best.

Good -
The characterization of the turtles was great. They really needed to be in the movie more. That elevator scene has to be the moment of the movie that captures the essence of TMNT. The action set pieces and the fights were very entertaining.

Bad -
The movie was functional but the origin of the turtles, how they became “ninjas”, the relationship with April, the villain(s), it just seemed like they didn’t want to think about any of it. Sacks was just a useless foe. You can clearly tell that Fichtner was supposed to be the big baddie with how terribly edited sequences around the character were. A lot of exposition for the story was stated more than actually showing it. There was no real conflict between the turtles and the villain. It’s all related to Megan O’Fox, which by the way, needs to become an model at this point. Putting her in movies is just a waste of time. She was replaced by a Victoria’s Secret Model in Transformers 3 and did a much better job. Either coach her up, or re cast her. Sadly, she is there with you, in the movie in it’s entirely. This felt more like April O’Neill ft. TMNT. Also, why do movies need to show “our fates have been intertwined”. There are so many stories that are a part of this lore and it just seems that going for this route hurt it. So much of this type of story seems to have been borrowed from another comic book turned live action reboot in recent years. . . . . The Amazing Spiderman (vintage plot bag from daddy and the final battle are two good examples).

In all, the Turtles were there, showed up and showed out. It’s just to bad that nothing else in this movie came along for the ride.

And most people who obsess over G1 pretty much hate everything since 1986 LOL

bout to go to bed so real quick review

PROS
-turtle interaction and humor
-the reimagining of the origin actually wasnt that bad even tho it was basically ASM but that movie owned too soo…
-megan fox was extremely likeable
-shredder’s blade play
-the entire mansion scene

CONS
-megan fox’s surgery scars on her face
-why was whoopi goldberg in this? lol
-pacing of the movie was really fast
-foot clan didnt feel very clan-like, but that really doesnt even matter

can see this being the definitive TMNT for a new generation of kids. 8/10

Whoopi was in it because she a fan of the series and was originally supposed to be in the 1st one I believe but had to op out of it.

Plus her great grand kids asked her to. Lol

So how many more movies before Michael Bay just runs into the scene and porks her like you know he wants to? :coffee:

[sarc]You know what would be weird? If in the second movie he took off his shirt, and it was revealed he was really a robotic exoskeleton piloted by a brain-like creature housed in a compartment in the midsection…NAW, that’d just be nuts! [/sarc]
