This is stupid, change it. I wanna grab wolvie out of dive kicks again
I can’t say I understand anyone who’s reasoning that air throws were too good so this is a better situation. Air throws are too good because they’re incredibly fucking derpy and involve mashing H whenever your character lifts off the ground. This makes air throws less effective by reducing their ability to punish, but that was one of the few non stupid things about air throws in the first place. If your opponent is at superjump height and you superjump from under him to immediately air throw punish a whiff or something, chances are that that was actually intended. Now even though air throws aren’t effective when the player is actually trying to use it, people have even more reason to mash H to avoid punishes and the derp factor of throw OS is still present. Air throws are weaker, but overall, the game is even more fucking stupid. Change it back Capcom.

According to someone in Neogaf, Niitsuma said that the ability to tech throws during recovery is a bug and will be removed in the upcoming patch this month. Are you guys happy?
^ wow, that actually made me feel a little good inside.
Thank god
Fan-fucking-tastic. Maybe TAC is a bug and they’ll remove that too lol. (A man can dream…)
thank god i was right.
You know what’s funny though? I always thought that throws were 100% techable in vanilla, so I was kind of surprised to learn that they weren’t. I always just thought that people fell for them because the tech windows were small or something.
watch the cry babies come back when wolverine dive kick all day
Sweet, they’re getting rid of it. No more teching my throw when you’re doing you’re unsafe super!!! Now can they get rid of stupid broken backwards hitboxes?
no, I’m not happy. See throwing in vanilla was ridiculously broke and the vanilla system was pretty scrubby to begin with. So we went from fixing the problem, with a glitch, to going to back to the original problem??? being able to tech throws all the time basically removed the durpy OS people use in this game for free chunks of life which is the main problem with the throw. That is the core problem with the throw.
there is more than 1 problem with throwing. I argue since that throws are so beyond durpy, they should be teched for free. tired of seeing viper mash j.h or mashblaster, my name for taskmaster players, mash bck+h for shield charge combined with throw ech throw opportunities.
throwing needs to be a team element. For example, ruby heart in mvc2 could NEVER combo off her throw solo. Mainly, I guess it was to prevent randomly throwing someone and getting a combo which were earlier problems in the versus series I believe in xvsf. In mvc2, you had to call an assist then throw to get your throw to combo. so 99% of the time when you mashed on OS throw, all you got was a setup. Not a potential death combo. The mvc2 layout basically prevented the OS from happening for MOST throws. There were some characters that got them like magneto got them in the corner and cammy but the majority of throws in that game could not be combo-ed from solo.
since I know they won’t do that type of system since it would take tweaking to every characters throw, the next best thing to do is make throwing from 1f to something bigger. Like maybe 5frames? throwing was so good\fast in vanilla you could get thrown out of pokes for free. The characters who thrived off it only did 1 thing for air footsie, mash throw. No baiting, no spacing, no mind games, just jump up and mash.
.
.
Hell yes.
Your extensive use of the neologism “durpy” suggests to me that you might not have been playing fighting games around the time of the release of Street Fighter II World Warriors in the arcades. This is relevant because this was about when the debate over the place of throws in fighting games first began.
The general consensus after hundreds of thousands of man-hours spent arguing about throws was:
That’s just how the game is, deal with it.
Thank God!
I was getting tired of teleporters teching all of my grabs.
I dunno. To me it seems like the devs chose the lesser of 2 evils as far as derpy grabs/derpy grab breaks go. I think given time, if the grab breaking glitch persisted, we would have seen some pretty lame shit going on in the end of the game’s life.
lol,
yes, I’ve been playing since WW and throwing in that game was durpy too. Throwing needs to be there and any argument a scrub had in 91-95 just doesn’t work anymore. Not when we’ve had 10+ years to see where throwing has gone when done properly.
I just never agreed as to how throwing has been implemented over the years, especially in 2d games since 99% of the time throwing ech throws can be option selects. The best games to implement throwing are some of the 3d fighters like tekken obal because you actually HAVE to throw, not option select, hit confirm, play out option tree.
and what I’m saying is a perfectly fine example of how throwing should be implemented. If you guys think taskmaster mashing bck+h and getting a throw, then doing free 50%+ is actually taking skill, you’re sadly mistaken. Its another example of how durpy they have made this game along with other system elements like XF.
**oh its completely lame but mashing throw OS all day isn’t? **
this glitch fixed the MAIN problem with the throw which was the OS it created but it created other problems like teching throws out of teleports\supers which I agree are a downside.
Going back to the old format does not fix the problem with throwing though. All they’re doing is fixing a mistake and not actually fixing the problem.
You didn’t throw back in those days. If you threw your opponent you allowed your opponent to throw you.
well it was a glitch after all, so we can be relieved now thatb we know that they would patch this shit
oh good lord…
/facepalm
I respect your opinion on the topic and appreciate how well thought out it is (and shout-outs to Tobal), but even the most impassioned and air-tight argument here isn’t going to affect how UMvC handles throwing and basically just amounts to venting about it. At the end of the day it still comes down to playing the game we’ve got, or moving on to greener pastures.
Actually I usually found that to be more of a function of how many friends there had your back in case things got ugly.
Nah though, in reality for whatever reason my local arcades were pretty civilized on the topic. Worst case you’d get called cheap but you were still probably the one staying on the cabinet.
Just saw the news. Thank you. Thank you based Niitsuma.
