Tech Talk Shoot'em Up (Pro)Gear - arcade parts for bullet dodging

thnx for the advice, unfortunately its not readily available in canada except from the official dell website for which it is $300!

I believe this is because the LS-58 is meant to mount at the same height as a JLF using a P-40 plate.

I took advantage of the free shipping over on Focus Attack and ordered an LS-56. Hoping they start stocking the LS-40 and LS-58 at some point. Let the gamut of Seimitsu stick testing beginā€¦

And they should get the LS-33. Iā€™d order all my junk for my next stick from them, but since I want a LS-33 and I want to get parts from a single seller to save on shippingā€¦

Make sense, Sanwa starts a new line of buttons to compete with Seimtsuā€™s clear buttons, so Seimtsu stepped up the game and come out with a new stick.

Best thing to do is let Jaleel over there know. Iā€™ve been on him for months about stocking PS-14-Gs and LS-40s. Theyā€™re still youngish, so right now theyā€™re stocking items that sell well so they donā€™t have a bunch of money tied up in dust collectors. Maybe if a bunch of us got them to make a pre-paid bulk order so they didnā€™t have to sit on stock? Focus Attack is my store of choice and Iā€™d love to give them all my business.

Done on their thread.

Iā€™m a little confused here. The P-40 plate and MS plate are both flat so theyā€™ll mount the LS-58 at the same height in a stick with a universal bracket. Do you mean the S-plate for the LS-56/58 will mount the stick at roughly the same height as a JLF?

Different screw holes. IIRC, the P-40 plateā€™s screw holes line up better with mounting brackets meant for Sanwa P1 plates.

Because to get the standard height, a Mounting Plate that is flat is supposed to be used.
Like a LS-55-01 and LS-56-01, the LS-58-01 follows same.

LS-58-01 is based off the LS-56-01, so I donā€™t know how b15sdm did not know that.
To mount the LS-58-01 will use a Mounting Plate that is flat.

The promotional advertisement flyer showed LS-58-01 using the P-40 Mounting Plate, yes.

We also know that the LS-55-01 and LS-56-01 have interchangeable MS and VF Mounting Plates.
We also know that the LS-58-01 is based of LS-56-01, so it goes that the MS and VF Mounting Plate can use also.

There exists an S-shape Mounting Plate for LS-58-01.
SS Mounting Plate, but not the same SS Mounting Plate as LS-32-01.
The SS Mounting Plate for LS-58-01 is just like the SS Mounting Plate for LS-32-01.
The difference is that the distanced screw holes for LS-58-01 is 10mm shorter than for LS-32-01.

Yes, the MS and VF and P-40 is 10mm shorter distanced also.
It is only way to fit on LS-33 and LS-55 and LS-56 and LS-58.

That is why those three Joysticks are known as Compact.

When order LS-58-01 from Seimitsu, there are four type to choose from.
LS-58-01-XX-VF (VF Mounting Plate)
LS-58-01-XX-MS (MS Mounting Plate)
LS-58-01-XX-SE (Seimitsu Mounting Plate P-40)
LS-58-01-XX-SS (SS Mounting Plate P-40)

XX being the color of Shaft Cover and Ball.

Because the [40] in P-40 means 40mm instead of 50mm.
40mm being the 10mm shorter than 50mm.

And there already exists a regular Seimitsu Mounting Plate (RE).
And there already exists a regular SS Mounting Plate (SE).
So the P-40 is added at the end.
Seimitsu say so.

No, the SS Mounting Plate will mount the Joystick 6mm higher than JLF.

Some of us donā€™t have the luxury of ordering direct from Seimitsu.

That is why b15sdm got Dicked.
Gremlin Solutions only has the LS-58-01 with SS P-40.
When he needed a Seimitsu P-40 or the MS Mounting Plate.

You mean they gave him 8 buttons with his LS-58?

Correct, I remember b15sdm showing the pictures in the LS-58 thread. I was just confused earlier on what d3v mentioned and I thought he meant to say the SS plate. I get what he meant, now. =D

Iā€™m still confused. Does the SS plate (standard plate for LS-32-01ā€™s) holesā€™ line up with the holes on the LS-58-01? As the design for the LS-58 is based on the LS-56, I assumed the holes on the stick base would be the same, and IIRC, the LS-56 and LS-32 plates wonā€™t mix and match.

I just ordered an LS-56 myself to see if itā€™s better for shmups than the good olā€™ LS-32, but I have no idea if Iā€™ll be able to mount it without getting extra plates.

LS-32(-01) and LS-40(-01) have 50mm spacing for the holes.
LS-33 and LS-55(-01) and LS-56(-01) and LS-58-01 have 40mm spacing.

The Mounting Plate of a Regular will not fit the Compact.
I mentioned the size difference in my Post above.

There are two S-shape Mounting Plates from Seimitsu.
SS Mounting Plate for Regular Joystick.
SS Mounting Plate P-40 for Compact.

Depends on where you get it from: the ones Focus Attack stock come with an MS plate, but Iā€™ve seen some places stock them with a VF plate.

My LS-56 arrived today!

Sadly, it was damaged in transit

PCB got banged up in the box. There was a few huge gouges inside the box where the solder point got whacked. Broke the solder off the board and took the trace with it. Iā€™ve got an email into Focus Attack support to see about getting a new PCB.

I can report though that I think Iā€™m going to like this stick. Noticeably heavier spring, super short engage, bit of travel. Still has the same deadzone wobble problem as any other Seimitsu stick, but at least this thing doesnā€™t gate jump like an LS-32. Best analogy I can make: it feels like a miniature, more precise Happ. Obviously, once Iā€™m able to actually play on it rather than just click it around in my palm Iā€™ll be able to do a proper review.

Manā€¦ between my fresh off the line Toodles SLG having massive issues and now this, it just isnā€™t my week for gaming gear.

[EDIT]
Focus Attack is sending me a new stick, once again proving why I love doing business with them. Now Iā€™m 1 for 2 this week.

Seimitsu LS-56-01. Preliminary impression: I think Iā€™ve found a new favorite stick. Although the deadzone wobble is about the same as an LS-32, it feels much more pronounced on this stick because youā€™re up against a much heavier spring. That being said though, I really, REALLY, enjoying using this stick. Itā€™s like a perfect marriage between Japanese and American stick styles. I even ran it through a few fighters, and found I liked it for them as well (although the solid feel of JLF movements is hard to beat). Next up; get my hands on an LS-40.

Oh, and this may be one for Emphatic: Suzo 500 in a TE? From all your writings, everything I love about this stick is amplified to the nth degree with a Suzo. I must find out for myself.

Finally got around to trying out my LS-56-01 installed on a Sega hss-0136 Arcade stick on a few shmup games. As I just got the Sega Saturn to Dual-mod MC Cthulhu and Xbox 360 TE PCB Converter Gummo sent me.
I actually played better with the LS-56 over the JLF.

I might go ahead and put an LS-56 in other sticks next.
Also in case your wondering my Sega HSS-0136 is full Seimtsu now.
