I can’t fit ghetto and TATE in the same sentence. Oh, wait-
Awesome 1942 shirt!
Yay Mushihimesama! I was laughing trying to pronounce that on the phone with jdm.
my cousin gave me this 32’ hdtv after he found it in the local landfill , no sound but it still works (according to him there are a lot of hdtv’s there)
it’s got 2 components, 3 HDMI and 2 composite inputs
Considering most HDTVs have shite speakers anyway, good deal.
FYI, that setup is my friends, it’s the same one I posted earlier.
Resurrected thread is resurrected.
Anyone have any impressions or experience with the LS-58-01? I see Akihabarashop has them up for sale. Looking to branch out from my beloved LS-32-01.
Also: Otomedius Excellent is one of the cheapest and frustratingly difficult games I’ve ever played. It’s poorly designed, enemy locations are arbitrary and result in unavoidable deaths (like stage 2 when the stage suddenly speeds up and forces you through a wall of multi-hit enemies), and it’s just not any fun. I’m all for a challenge. I LOVE getting brutalized in Pulstar. But this is just a poorly made shmup. I’ll give it another couple of tries to see if it clicks, but I’m pretty sure this is going in my ‘kill it with fire’ pile.
Sorry, had to rant in a place people may actually care. Back to the hardware.
The LS-58 is similar to the LS-55/LS-56 from my understandings, I understood is has a weaker spring.
Even though I have a couple of sticks, I don’t even have a dedicated SHMUP stick either~
If I did, it would be another VLX equipped with a LS-56 with octagonal gate with PS-14-G buttons. Unfortunately I play fighters so the least that I use are LS-56 with a square gate and PS-14-K buttons(to match my sticks). Gonna stick with the LS-56, hopefully I can get some of the metallic/chrome accessories that were showcased with the LS-58 stick levers.
On the note of Otomedius Excellent, the only real problem I have with the game is the speed upgrade, on max speed(especially with the Speed-i upgrade card), precision is a huge problem even with such a stick as the LS-56. Otherwise I love the game, I haven’t played a SHMUP not by CAVE in the longest time~
Also biased to the title because I love the Vic Viper and the artist, Mine Yoshizaki haha.
What about engage distance?
That’s a Gradius/Lifeforce thing though: when you jack up the speed, you tend to overshoot too often. I usually do two speed upgrades, tops. Unless I’m in a stage where I know I’ll need another boost.
Anywho: I’m going to have to just drop the money on all the sticks I don’t have so I can try them all. LS-40, LS-56, LS-58… I’d do a review, but I’m not sure if the hardcores would take me too seriously. :wonder:
First things first though: I need to have a serious “GTFO mah house” sale on stick stuff. Waaaaay too much stuff laying around, especially since I’ve finally weened myself off Seimitsu buttons for shmups.
Actually, from what I’ve heard, movement on OE isn’t as smooth as say, in Gradius V.
Possibly the mix of both, though Otomedius is popular in Japan, it’s possibly because Cave conquers 70% of the shmup category as well. I think recently the only shmups I’ve played is OE, Cave shmups and Trouble Witches Neo.
I’m still skeptical on the LS-58, recently for my Fighting Stick V3, I made some adjustments on my LS-56 by removing the 5 pin PCB and microswitches out for LS-32 because they where the only extra parts I had with individual connectors(ground + direction x 4) and a local buddy of mine says that it’s similar compensation to what the LS-58 has. Instead of a softer spring, my 56 has a slightly longer engage…the rest of my sticks have JLF because they’re local casual loaners now…
I was thinking of getting this stand http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX8076 but then the problem becomes what type of lcd monitor to go with it? People on the shumps.system11.org forums don’t seem to think too highly of TN panel LCD monitor because of viewing angles when tating it. (which unfortunately is what the EVO monitor is, and I don’t have one at the moment.)
any suggestions for LCD tate anyone?
BTW Dondonpachi Ressurection for 360 (PAL region free) is awesome!!
Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM - IPS panel, stand rotates (only one way though, so that might be a problem), input lag measured at 1.1ms, awesome price. Only minor quibble is no native HDMI input, but HDMI -> DVI cables/adapters are practically free these days. Honestly, I’d just use VGA out of your 360 anyway. Here’s a thread discussing it on the Shmups forums.
Re: Dodonpachi - Mine should be in the post this week. Can’t wait!
AFAIK, all 360 shmups can TATE both ways. We’ll have to wait and see for Under Defeat though. If it is in the wrong way TATE, you should be able to unscrew the screen from the foot when in TATE and mount the screen horizontally (or YOKO as the Japanese say) and it now should TATE the way you want it to.
I wasn’t referring to just 360 games. I’ve got a few Saturn/DC titles that don’t gel with most modern rotatable monitors. Nothing an aftermarket stand (like that Ergotron) can’t solve, or remounting the screen as you suggested. Just throwing it out there so a person can weigh it in their purchase decision.
From what I understood, mechanically the LS-56 and LS-58 are the same mechanically. The LS-58 has a medium instead of a heavy spring.
But that isn’t hard to change. Both sticks use many of the same parts as you can see here, courtesy of B15 LS 58 01 Thread and Questions
The huge difference comes in the shaft cover and dust washer. I not sure why the mount height is off on the LS-58 with the SS mount plate.
The height is off with the SS plate because it mounts the LS-58 higher than a flat mounting plate. Maybe it’s useful for some people who think the height of the shaft is too short?
