Team ?/Steve Fox Thread

Abel & Steve is one of the teams I play.

Abel on point to open the opponent up and build some meter. Once a meter or two has been gained, I can either go for Abel’s EX Shoulder Charge combos or switch cancel Steve in off a St.FP. On hit Steve can do his St.FP xx Flicker cancel - Cr.FP xx Ducking Fox Hunt xx EX Sonic Fang - Cr.FP xx Ducking Skyscraper - Ducking Body - Ducking Hook xx Flicker cancel into LP Flicker punch for 523 damage.

If you only have one meter you can just miss out the Fox Hunt and the EX Sonic Fang.

You can also Switch cancel Abel in after the Flicker punch at the end of the combo to carry them all the way to the corner and get an untechable knockdown. If they choose to Roll, they’re in the corner. Or you could just roll through them with Abel and watch as their roll doesn’t come out.

If I get a launcher with Abel I usually just do Cr.FP xx Ducking Skyscraper - Ducking Body - Ducking Hook xx Flicker jab to keep them close or strong to knock them closer to the corner if I feel like it.

When Steve is in after the Tag Combo

Normally i’ll get some pressure going with Steve via the Flicker cancels off of Cl.MP and Cl.FP. Mix in some walk up jabs to frame trap which can get me a combo into Cr.MP xx ducking… or Sonic Fang. I’ll throw out a Ducking body to get in at times too and sometimes i’ll back off a bit and throw a couple fireballs to see what they do.

Gems

Abel

Fortitude Lv.1 (Block Five times) Abel has good health so why not? Although I think i’ll change it back to an Immense Power gem to capitalize off Abel’s great damage.

Immense Power Lv.1 (Connect 3 special moves) Each hit of Abel’s Change of Direction counts as a Special.

Onslaught Lv.1 (Connect 3 special moves) Same as above. Builds meter for Steve and Abel to use for switch cancels and stronger combos.

Steve

Immense Power Lv.1 (Partner connects with one launcher) Abel will be hitting a launcer whether the opponent likes it or not, why not maximize my damage?

Onslaught Lv.2 (Partner connects with one launcher) Same as above. Let’s me build a good amount of meter so I could switch cancel Abel back in at the end of the combo or simply switch him in off a blocked Song Fang. Abel can also combo off of a Sonic Fang that hits which is a bonus.

Fortitude Lv.1 (Block 5 times) People are going to be pressuring me at some point. Jump ins aren’t a problem as I can simply Quick Spin underneath or go for a Weave into Shoulder Rush and Uppercut. OR just do a Weaving A into a Magic series/block. I wouldn’t do the Weaves all the time though as they’ll start countering it. Just don’t forget about it. Use those Weaves! But some of the time i’m just going to block first and activate the gem, once it’s activated I can risk a weave or a counter and see how they react. If I get hit, the gem will soften the blow!

These gem builds are constantly getting changed though, this is just what i’m currently using/testing out.

I’ve just started using Steve however so I could be playing him completely wrong, he’s fun regardless and I love the character.

Sorry about the wall of text!

Personally I’m using a Raven/Steve combination. Raven has some nasty unpredictable combo’s and just transitions well for me to go in and pummel with Steve. While they both have their fair share of shortcomings, I feel the mix-up game with Raven allows me to build just enough meter to really get in and dish some damage :stuck_out_tongue:

Rolento/Steve.
Rolento has 2 meter builders and another gem of your choice
Rolento antics until:
A) Rolento is at ~half health, in which case you should be looking to tag cancel/boost combo into launcher
B) You have ~2 meter, where you can tag cancel off of patriot circle or boost combo

Steve with meter is where the real damage comes. Especially if you have damage gems. I’ve been running 1 for when rolento launches, 1 for normal attacks hitting, and 1 for attacks being blocked.

Post Launch/Tag cancel: Use the cr.HP, ducking (mp follow up), f+mp, lp, flicker

After any steve combo that ends with flicker groundbounce you can tag cancel the flicker and follow up with rolento’s cr.mk into super

I’ve been using Chun/Steve, they seem to compliment each other really well. I’ll edit this post with more info on the team later.

Raven/Steve seems really really good. I’m running them with 2 meter gems and 1 power gem each. Once they fix this analog glitching BS I should be able to start posting some videos of it.

I’m running Law/Steve at the moment . Law has a lot of ways to combo into a switch cancel with and without meter . Prob with this team so far seems to be anti air. I get blown up when ppl approach from air . Imma keep going at it , but I’m tempted to switch Law for Sagat. Becuz I think Sagat is more well rounded.

Secretly can’t wait for Cody , I think Cody/Steve will be boss

Using Guile/Steve at the moment. Confirming random hits with guile to Steve and after the combo I can safely tag in Guile for free, the added bonus is that Steve hit them full screen away which is excellent for guile…

Doing generic Hwoarang, Steve team. I find no problems playing either as point, Steve especially if I’m going against a shoto character/shoto team. Although Hwoarang has more accessible combos especially his unique moves, so he does make a better point man overall. However I disagree on the outpoking bit for Hwoarang because of jump in trident unique but thats just me tbh.

I’ve been going Juri/Steve. I’m also on the Steve anchor bandwagon, since his ways to open up aren’t as good as Juri

Juri is a monster in this game in general, I feel like. Not only does she do pretty good damage, she has alot of things that goes towards team synergy. From Juri’s qcb + mk, you can tag cancel into steve Medium dash -> skyscraper, which itself leads to other things. From EX qcb + mk, you can do cr. hp (the anti air one) into Medium dash -> skyscraper as well. You can blockstring and then if they are blocking you can end with qcb + lk since its safe on block, MK/EX if it hits to tag cancel in.

From Steve’s ex sonic fang, you can tag cancel Juri in for cr. HP -> jump cancelled air qcb + any kick -> cr. mk -> qcb + LK (you get both hits for the most damage). And of course steve’s dash -> command grab, you can do anything you want with Juri (charge super, jumping heavy, chain combo, etc.)

I havn’t tried anything else from her air qcb + kick (first hit only). If i can find something to tag cancel Steve cr. hp -> lk dash -> cr. hp, then we in there lol

Cammy/Steve, Cammy/Steve, Cammy/Steve. My favorite team by far and the one that’s made this game for me. Cammy is an excellent point who at most needs a single meter to do around 400 damage but in the end, poking out with standing and crouching kicks and punches (specifically Cr. MK, St. and Cr. HP/HK) into Cannon Drill or Cannon Spike are just great. Spin Knuckle is surprisingly effective against a lot of fireball users and the fact that she can tack on another st. HP after a jump-in into chain tag is just great.

Cammy brings the maneuverability, the anti-air, and the normals that Steve lacks. Plus, they’re both British.

Cammy/Steve is really good too, since shes alot better at getting in that he is.

Honestly the only reason I don’t play that team is cause I main Cammy in AE as well. I can’t play Cammy in both cause it messes me up badly in AE, so I switched to Juri in this game

Steve is my tekken main but im not crazy bout him… tho when Duds my SF main comes out i think ill be inclined to use steve again …oh man gentlemen on a roll

I run Steve on point and Marduk in behind.

This team is played for enjoyment, as I really like both of these characters. Synergy-wise, the only thing they have going for them is a 544 dmg tag-in combo if Steve lands the command grab. Plus I guess putting people into corners is always good for grapplers.

I used to play that team before I dropped Marduk, my main in Tekken, in disgust. Zero mobility, bad armor move, and normals with good range that are slow as molasses. You can actually get something like 680 with Steve and Marduk if you land Gattling Gun.
Gattling Gun xx Tag-Cancel > St. Roundhouse x 3 > Jump-in Roundhouse > st. fierce xx Fierce Gator Grab.

Steve and Hugo because it’s like Steve and Marduk except Hugo is better than Marduk. Good opportunities to tag-cancel either character if you land a combo, good ability to take them to the corner with Steve if you land a combo and Hugo okizeme is scary as hell in the corner. Hugo also is beefy and can be raw-tagged if you need to. Also, each character does a good amount of damage for the meter you use.

I’m running with a Ogre/ Steve team. I don’t know if my reasons are amazing . I think Steve needs to be paired with a good defensive character , or at the very least have a good reversal . Ogre gives me that , and ogre hits pretty hard , with plenty of opportunities to tag cancel to some great Steve damage .
I worry about my mixup potential , ogre and Steve aren’t amazing with that. I really can’t wait for Cody , I think hell do wonders with Steve

Right now im just focusing on steve cuz im tryna learn him but Im thinking about steve / Relento. Maybe steve at point and Relento behind or I might use steve / Ryu.

Wow this thread hasn’t been very lively as of late huh? Anyway I main Steve, but I run him on anchor since I feel that’s where he does best at. In the beginning I played Poison/Steve but I wasn’t feeling the damage from that team so I’m messing around with Alisa/Steve, however I feel there can be better for him. I really want a good point character that does good damage so I can tag in Steve to finish with some big damage. I’ll have to go through the rest of the cast to figure out who I would like best with him, but for now it’s Alisa/Steve.

Yeah it’s pretty dead around this forum especially since Dudley came out, I hope someone post their evaluations of the new Steve. That way maybe I can apply some new tricks for my Dudley/Steve Team

Currently rocking Vega/Steve. Vega builds decent meter and has great pokes/range to tag Steve in. I am sure there are better partners for him, but this is just my personal preference so far. I would like to get away from Vega eventually.

Law/Steve after the v2013 patch. I used this team as well in the previous version, but mainly stuck with Law/Julia.

Why Law? Anyone who’s played with him or has battled a good Law knows exactly how monstrous of a team the duo make. Now in v2013, Law’s offense is even more solid with the AA options and the damage increase; tag into Steve [who also got footsies, pressure-game, and damage buffs] either launcher or tag cancel and ZOMG THE DAMAGE!!!
