What about Gouken, Akuma, and Seth?
That’s what he’s talking about.

So…it’s 27 ppl judging by the front page. So that’s actually 729 matches, and therefore more like 60 hours+ of game time.
if the first round is Friday at Preppy’s and we only have one setup, and we managed to run non-stop back to back 5 minute matches for 8 hours…we’d get 96 matches done…out of 729…
Or let’s just say it’d take over 8 hours straight to get 4 ppl through their matches with one setup.
We seriously need 4 stations running back to back matches like clockwork over 8 hours to get half the matches done.
I will bring in my TV and my xbox…and we’re gonna need to either open up another TV, and bring 2 more stations…or bring 3 more stations…
Not to mention everyone needs to be there to get even one person through the whole line up.
This would also need to happen at Gameclucks…how is it even remotely feasable to be having 3-4 stations running for 8 hours like clockwork to finish the second half of the matches WHILE having a singles tourny…WITH everyone who needs to be there?
Does this sound unrealistic to anyone else but me? Maybe I’m just thinking too hard…but it seems like we need to come up with some new solutions pretty quick here.
SALU SHYAN!
Overall I think the format to the RR should be changed. In my opinion, I think what would be the best route, is for Cole to choose who he feels is the top ten in the NW. Then from there allow anybody that wants a shot to be on the team, to challenge anybody who’s currently on the team. Then in the event they beat that person, they can go on a gauntlet against the remaining members to validate their spot. So say for example, if he listed the top ten and a scrub named Mandel happened to be in that top ten. Joe Higashi could come along and say “yo I want a piece of Mandel he’s lookin real weak right now!” He could challenge me for my spot on the team. I figure with this kinda format the peeps in the top ten would have to stay on their A games if they want to stay on. They’d have to step up and prove that they belong on the team.
Another reason why I think the format should be changed is because not everyone will be able to make it to Gameclucks on the 14th. That’s like free wins for hella people. With the date being changed, Frank, King, Julian, and Peachy cannot compete on the 14th at Gameclucks. We’re missing Seattle’s best Blanka, Bisons, and we’re missing one of our best Zangiefs. Josh also cannot make one of the dates of the event so we’re missing out on one of our Akuma players as well. Along with that I think with the RR being at Zach’s and at Gameclucks, we’re robbing a lot of people of a shot to compete (through a singles tourney as only so many people were listed for the RR). It would defeat the purpose for a lot of SFIV players to go to either event this weekend if they don’t even get to participate in a tournament.
EDIT-Forgot Cole had changed it to the top ten and not the top eight heh.
I agree with what’s being said here, with the date change coming @ such short notice, we are losing a lot of the better players who have a very good chance of making it onto the 8-10 ppl.
Some more ideas:
If someone wants to challenge someone for a spot and they play a character that’s in the team they have to play against that person (ex. Say julian makes it on the team, and I want to challenge to get on. I should have to challenge julian). Now that brings up another point in that some mirror matches don’t really determine the better player (bison = a paper rock scissor’s game). So if the chsllenge invovles the same character, they should have to go through a gauntlet of the other players, and say they need to win 7 of the 10 matches to get a shot at the challenged person. Cause what’s the point of kaving a person being able to knock out 1 player they can beat, but can’t beat or hang with the other 9 ppl?
I hope something gets decided soon, because it’s one thing for me and the others to go to the qualifier and not make it, then not making it because we can’t make it to the qualifier because of the date change especially at this short notice.
Also for me I talked to my boss about this being cancelled and how it’s on the 14th, he just said that “that sucks cause I need you to work on sunday”. It’s a bit unfortunate cause I’ve been practicing/training for the qualifier.
my work schedule is shitty as is and i woulndt get to zacks til midnight (like i always do) and i work at 3pm on sundays and i cant call out that day for anything really since im the ONLY cook in the hotel on sunday nights. i was hoping to get a little here and there, but that wont work if people have opposite schedules and what not. honestly, im so honored, completely shocked in a way that i was considered on that list. i would love to prove myself but i dont think i would deserve a spot on the top 10. not saying i wont give it my all. but yes, lynnwood. seriously though? last time i went to lynnwood on my own choice was on a bus to get some pussy from this 16 yr old (i was 19 calm down).
That’s what I’m talking about. You have to beat the game 27 times! to get Akuma and Gouken. You better get there Friday to have them unlocked by Sunday.
While I like parts of the solutions in hand, such as running the gauntlet after you beat the person you challenged, I feel like something is unfair about it, but I can’t put my finger on it. The round robin idea is cool because you fight a vast variety of people, which is what we’re going to get at Evo. We will not have played these people before, where as in our corner of the country, we are mostly somewhat familiar with each other. We may have some sort of notion as to how they will play… I think having a good score with a whole bunch of our players will prove our diversity in play and way to adapt to all sorts of different playstyles, which we’ll be running into at Evo.
Although, on the other hand, I understand the time constraints… (that is a lot of matches) I say we should bring as many setups as we can reasonably fit to Zach’s on Friday, and see how much we can get through by a reasonable hour and work through it from there. But I don’t really know…
Bring hard drives/ X box flash drive thingys.
Have you guys heard of doing a tournament in ‘pools?’
Basically the idea is that you break down a large group into smaller groups, and then have those smaller groups do round-robin tournaments.
Why don’t you guys do that?
then we’d get all wet
I hate the challenge/gauntlet option. It’s much easier for me to dip out of BOTH these days and just hand pick someone I think I match up well against, (for me, ANY fucking Gief player since Bison rapes in that match up IMO), and then say “See, I deserve a spot!”, or something. I think the challenging system really just complicates things and introduces hella unfairness in it too, once you earn your spot IMO that should be it.
I think the round robin is the most fair way to do things, and I think that we CAN do this, ESPECIALLY if we “assign” players to a station to get as many of their matches out of the way as possible, so we have to do the least amount of “seeking” for matches.
I also am not opposed to Cole trimming the fat of the invitational list for speed’s sake, whatever he thinks is fair I am willing to do, and honestly it is an honor just to be mentioned with some of you great players.
My place should be open next wednesday, since I have finals on monday and friday. If its needed you could use it or whatever, but I’m guessing most want it decided by this weekend.
I got 20 on both king AND mark that they will scrape you ft7. And sorry but honestly anyone in that top ten is not going to be a push over in trying to take a spot. Also don’t ruin it for those that can’t make it on the 14th because you can’t either. Myself, Peachy, King, and Josh can’t make it, and honestly I think that both King and Peachy could ultimately end up being on that 5v5…but they can’t even get a shot because of some unfortunate events so we have to deal with having the chance of the top 10 consisting of 3 or 4 sagats? NOPE I’m not feeling that shit at all.
a round robin is definitely the most fair way of determining spots, but as someone down here in Oregon I definitely don’t think I’d be able to make it up there for both events. And obviously there are already people in the Seattle area that won’t be able to make it to both either. It’s not really a true round robin if everyone doesn’t get to play everyone, right?..
The “challenge” option sounds kinda broken for reasons Airthrow already described. But still, some form of that does seem like a way to keep the competition fierce in the weeks leading up to EVO.
Last time I played Mark in tourney I beat him. I’m sure he’s got much better now since he’s finishing really high though, and this was a while back. I wouldn’t mind a MM, but why are you so quick to take up on it? I wasn’t disrespecting anyone in particular just stating it’s a rough matchup.
And please don’t take what I said too literally, I’m just trying to give an example of how unfair the challenge system could end up being, I didn’t mean to say it that strong if it came across that way, but the fairest way to do it is to round robin.
I also wouldn’t care if Cole just picked.
edit: “Don’t ruin it for someone else” dude I didn’t know I needed to run my posts of my opinion/idea through a Frank filter, WTF…? Everyone is just stating their opinions.
that’s why i was saying that if a character was on the team that a challenger wanted to play against, well they would have to play them so let’s break it down like this:
Sagats: ScrubbyDan, PaulLee, Rat, Jmar, Trace (am i missing anyone here?)
it wouldn’t be fair to have Trace challenge someone that doesn’t play Sagat to try to get on that top ten when there is already a Sagat on there.
Let’s look at the Bison’s
Bison: Frankdadank, Airthrow, Riki-oh, BBH, Duggish, Ian,
Now you and I (and probably every person listed on this bison list) KNOWS that Bison vs Bison is a paper rock scissor match-up, more so than the rest of the cast. So that’s where the gauntlet comes in.
I honestly think that Cole should pick 10, and if someone wants to challenge then why not? You know someone is going to be butt hurt that they were chosen, hell that might even be me! But if I or anyone else feels that they should be on there instead of said person, let them get their one shot. So in short here’s my idea:
Cole picks 10
Someone isn’t happy they didn’t make it they challenge once
If they play a character that’s already in the ten, they have to challenge that player
Go through a gauntlet of the 9 (win 6 or 7 to actually have the shot, cause like I said, if you can’t roll with the ppl on the ten what’s make you think you can roll with the best of the other regions?)
beat them and congrats, you knocked them off the team.
I think that people should only get to challenge once, and that those on the team should only defend once, so in reality TEN challenges can only happen. I also believe that only those that have been invited should be able to challenge, because let’s face it it’s a little too late to try to have everyone in the entire NW to try and get a shot at fame.
So out of the 27 ppl you have 10 that’ll make it leaving 17, then out of that 17 ten could try and challenge leaving 7, and out of the last 7 there’s what a good chance that 4 or 5 of them aren’t even going to EVO and the other 2 probably don’t give a shit. So there you have it!
just posting to agree with this. Most mirror matches are silly, but Bison mirrors are especially dumb.
