No chun on the list? I know mandel is a great player and has won at least 3 tournaments has he not? Im just a bit suprised, but I trust your judgement Cole. There are a lot of great players on the list! LETS MAKE NW TEAM BEAST!
edit: I just remembered about all the shit mandel posted. Its all good though.
As I’ve said before, that list could’ve been so much bigger with all the talent we’ve got up here. Must’ve been difficult to cut that list down.
Everyone’s talking about east vs. west before Evo. They’re gonna be talking about NORTHWEST after it. GET HYPE!
I figured that I’d post my thoughts regarding the 5v5 team as well since it’s been on my mind quite a bit. As far as the top 20 goes (or 15 should I say?) congrats to those players. I feel as if Mandel should be in the top 20 as well, regardless of what his statments are as far as the team is concerned. In all honesty, if you want to count him out from the possibility of making the team, then you might as well count me out as well.
With my recent performance in tournaments, I too have taken a very similar stance that Mandel has. I’ve fallen off of my game recently, and in the last 3 tournaments that I’ve attended, I’ve placed lower then I ever have in any tournament I’ve been in. With that, I am currently in the process of changing my entire play style. But in all reality, what does this mean for the team? What point am I trying to make?
If I can’t hold my own weight right now, how can I be expected to hold the weight of my entire scene? I’m trying to take a step in the right direction for ME right now, and not for anyone else. I don’t want a secondary pressure like this 5v5 team tournament to deter me from realizing the true goal, which is improving my game for ME. I gotta focus on myself right now, before I can focus on the entire NW.
Take that however you will…I’m happy that I’m one of the 20 that have been hand picked, however I also feel that it comes with a certain responsibility or hidden pressure of having to prove to everyone WHY your on the top 20. In all reality, I’ve won some tournaments, I’ve placed high in some that truly counted, I’ve proven my dedication and consistency as a player to this scene…I shouldn’t need to prove to others that I’m good, and I shouldn’t have to FEEL that I SHOULD do so either…however for some reason I feel as if the team brings that pressure into it.
In all honesty, I’d really like to practice with the top 8 consistently so that I can up MY OWN game, and help those that are ON the team to get better as well. But more or less, I really could care less about trying to get on the 5v5 team. So with that, feel free to give my spot up as well.
^Mike, if you do well in the tourney and get on the 5v5 team, obviously you deserve to be there! I would just like to make it to the team for myself and because it is fun and I’d love to rep the PNW. But everyone knows the real test is Evo singles, right?
Of course Mandel deserves to be invited, he is one of our scene’s strongest players in a bunch of games, it is just a financial thing right now, TIME IS ROUGH in this country (By American standards)…
Anyways, really hoping I can get some practice in, but I am moving out Saturday and won’t have an Xbox or a working 360 stick for a while, soooo, yeah.
People gota MAN UP…this shit is starting to annoy me. No point in having a team if people aren’t confident in their skills. It’s basically a loss before you even step off the plane. Single evo win is serious, but if you whole region shines that’s major! I’m seeing a lot of people breaking down and over analyzing their skills. We all just need to play more and learn the match-ups.
Honored for the consideration, even more so with all the good players out here. I know I would benefit most from playing with the best so, although I am not sure about going to Evo, I’ll bring my A game to the quals. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend any upcoming events, as my GPA needs to level up, but in the meantime I’ll try to get in some SF4 whenever possible. BTW, good lookin out KChow and Berry! -Mark-
You know what would be kind of fun? A Playoff to see who will be spot #20. It falls in line with the whole idea of ambition. Throw a smaller tourney (you can choose this list, or let the other 19 pick who they want to see compete) or something to see who has the ambition to make it to that level.
Either way, I just want to see the NW hold it down at EVO!
With a few nods dropping out or are uncertain if they can make it. I think that they shouldn’t be replaced. If they didn’t know if evo was in their future or if they didn’t want to participate for whatever reason something should’ve been said BEFORE they were picked. Mandel stated he didn’t want in, and he’s not on the list, it allowed cole time to fill his spot. And for every1 else listed are they going to evo? I think they should post now just to see how we stand, if the list goes from 15 to 9 or something then yes more heads should be put in, but out of the 15 only 2 have backed out. Just my two cents.
Ps I’m registered for evo so I’m just about set. Just need my plane ticket.
So I don’t usually go on srk anymore, but I am glad I came across this thread.
I have been conflicted about this 5v5 thing, but after seeing a few other posts it has kind of cleared up for me. Thefuture is absolutely right. After returning from Japan I felt a lot like Mandel and Mickey, the beat downs were really demoralizing and I started over analyzing things and questioned my game.
Evo Singles are important, but I do think the 5v5 team is equally as important as we are representing our region and everyone else in the U.S. is taking this very seriously. I disagree that this is just for fun, being on the 5v5 should somewhat be an honor and you should feel some kind of responsibility. We need to pick the best 5v5 team based on as many factors as we can come up with. I love the idea of a top 8 and narrowing it down to a top 5, since people’s games will evolve as it gets closer to evo.
Anyway, my perspective on the 5v5 has changed. I used to think that I sucked, did horrible under pressure, and could think of at least 5 people who were better than me that should be on the 5v5 team, but now if I get the opportunity to make it to the top 20 tournament I will start training and playing harder. Everyone who wants to make the team should be taking this seriously; yeah it’s fine to just think it’s a game but then don’t try out to be on a team that represents other people. As I said, Thefuture is right; we just need to man up and believe in ourselves. If you don’t believe in yourself, who will!?
If anything, all egos should be set aside since winning is not everything and we should just want to train with each other and share all of our knowledge with one another. I have always believed that if you help your opponent get better than in turn you will get better.
If we are talkin about believing in our skills or w/e, i believe im better than like 10 ppl on that list, just sayin. That and Ive beaten half of them in tournaments.
Alright everyone, hehe ironically this shit that is going on in this thread is actually good! =)
Why you say? Cause it is making everyone see the bigger picture. Mickey said it best in his post about wanting to be on the final 8 just to offer his skills and knowledge to help the overall team. This is TEAM NW! EVO is moments away and we need our top 8 players in a thinking tank playing their asses off in order to properly represent the NW and put us on the map for SF4. I KNOW everyone is down to level up and what better way to do it then with the best in our scene! So is Everyone hungry? Do you wanna practice with the best? Do wanna help chisel our top 5 into perfection? That’s whats up.
So I hope after this post everyone can chill and let things be. If certain people wanna step down from the roster that is totally fine. You should not throw rocks at them cause u feel they should be representing. Everyone has their own goals and their own training methods. So let others do what they feel is best for themselvs.
So after reading all this, I see the demand…the hunger and the determination of a lot of great players. There is a need for more spots, so here is whats going on.
