Any pS3 updates?
PS3 will NEVER get an update. I’m pretty sure that EA games ported The Orange Box over to the PS3, anyway.
The Sentry thing just plain isn’t true. You’re thinking of the beta Sentry, which isn’t in the console versions of the game.
Maybe my perception is off since I’ve not played it in so long, but a level 1 sentry on the consoles, and especially on the PS3, can still fuck people up way more than they should be able to.
Community update today, 3 new weapons and a new hat for everyone
I have 2 of the new weapons…
Heavy: Chocolate Bar, increased your max health (and heals you) by 50, not droppable. Might be a bug, but it never runs out
Soldier: Pain Train (stick with nails in it), increases the speed you cap things but also increases damage you take from bullets by 10%
Pyro: Homewrecker (sledgehammer), don’t have it yet but supposedly does double damage to buildings (can take out a level 1 dispenser in 1 hit) and 75% damage to people
I managed to snag 2 of the new drops already (not sure if it was related, but I got the item while playing as each class) and I also snagged a heavy hat today! Not the new ones, sadly, but the heavy snow beanie thing
I decided to take a long hiatus from tf2 and haven’t played in over 2 months, but I am starting to have those cravings again. All my spy skills have probably gone to shit lol. These new items sound interesting. I am surprised though, cause I thought the results of the contribute site would be mainly aesthetic.

So the community can now make weapons…I am SO behind.
Camera Beards now count as hats as far as crafting is concerned…just crafted my Stovepipe and a Camera Beard into the Glenngarry Bonnet. Meh.
I wish they would give us a “vanilla” cvar to disable all unlocks but the medic weapons, these community weapons will be banned in any respectable league since not everyone can easily obtain them, and the older weapons aren’t being used anyway- but if they are being used by the enemy team your team has to run one of them too (FaN, TDH)…would be nice, especially now with all this community BS.
Although I would miss my equalizer in matches, grants the soldier what he badly needed- a way to get out quickly after his team died and he is too low on HP to rocketjump.

I don’t expect anything- I want a vanilla cvar, and medic weapons enabled, there is nothing illogical about it (I see what you’re saying but you don’t get what I’m saying). The medic arguably was the only class whose update was a full success, and the only class who needed a straight buff. Hence, everyone wants to play with medic weapons enabled, but not bother with the rest of the shit they put in the game. Medics are hard to come by as it is.
Anyway, that wasn’t my point…it would just be nice to play the game as it was before they decided to imbalance the -imo perfect- mixture of chaos and sillyness they had in 2008.

You’re making rules to fix problems that don’t exist.
Leagues still function perfectly without any real bans on unlocks(at least to my knowledge) so I don’t see why something like that would be put in place.
Most of the unlocks are just fun alternatives that for the most part aren’t as good as the originals in the first place. So I don’t think they really upset the balance of the game at all.
Ok, first off, the medic did NOT need a straight buff, medic is one of the better classes in the game, always has been. People don’t play medic because they don’t want to play a class thats almost exclusively designed for support, not because of any flaws in the class design. The medic update was also FAR from a full success, hell I wouldn’t say it was a success at all seeing as the kritz was moderately useless, and there was almost no reason not to use the ubersaw or blutz over the base weapons. The FAN is not OP, from what I understand the regular scattergun is generally considered a better weapon since you get 6 shells and don’t mess up your own movement, and the direct hit leaves a lot to be desired since it becomes tricky to rocket juggle people. The sandman was banned for a while when it completely messed with the game balance, but other than that I’m really stretching to think of an unlock that has had a serious effect on competitive play.
I can understand wanting a CVAR for no unlock play, hell I know some people who were pushing valve hard for a CVAR that set everything to EXACTLY the patch before the medic unlocks. Something like that I would go for, but to ask for one class that doesn’t need it at all to get unlocks while none of the other classes get what are moderately useless ones is just silly.
Update released.
- The medic needed the survivability from the blutsauger before valve changed the self-heal rates for medic. Theres a reason no medic ever ran needlegun before that patch.
- The kritzkrieg is far from useless, in a way it is one of the only true sidegrades in the game, it is a full trade-off. One many teams utilize on occasion.
- I never said the FaN was OP, the FaN is a bad sidegrade however because it is a.) allaround worse, and b.) almost requires the other team to have one scout switch to FaN as well. That may be less so a fact in higher level of play, but moreso in medium- and low-skill regions. It is just bad.
- The direct hit oneshots half of the cast and isn’t reliable enough (for spam OR medic-protection), it is BAD. TDH was supposed to be a weapon for skilled soldiers, rewarding airshots- the way it plays out it’s even noob-friendlier than the normal rocketlauncher with faster rocketspeed (my grandmother could get airshots with it), less effective damage-falloff, minicrits, and higher overall damage.
Point is, all of these affect the game negatively or not at all, that is why most people don’t want to see them in comp, not because they are overly powerful.
No reason to use bersaw over the normal bonesaw? You do know that the first hit isn’t affected by hitspeed?

I never said it was an issue, I said it would be nice if the option was there. That’s how you usually get stuff you have no direct control over, by requesting it.
There also is no problem but many people have voiced their opinion of being interested in a vanilla CVAR + medic weapons, I’m just one of them.
So is the DH too powerful, or too weak?
Either way, I love spamming it, but I hate being a defending Engineer who has to go up against it.
It’s great for taking out SGs, but I’d default to the rocket launcher 9 times out of 10.
Agreed about your points about the Medic.
It was always my impression that the DH were for more veteran soldier players who know how to go one on one.
I like it , but I’m still shitty as Soldier, so I went back to relying on splash damage.
What…the damage bonus on the Eq gets nerfed?

I don’t think it’s fair to consider yourself a bad soldier because you use splash damage. Lacking splash damage limits you from being able to effectively kill people around corners or by hitting ceilings at weird angles. Splash damage is more than just a crutch, it’s a very effective tool.
