Team Fortress 2 - Heavy Update, New Maps, New Mode are all live now!

C’mon RC, get with the program!

man even if you got one hour to spare, play it! I shrugged the game off for the longest time then got it and realized “I’M MISSING OUT!”

gotta get in on it!

Alright alright. I’m installing it now. Don’t know when I can play though.

next day patch for update:

Anyone wanna tell me what weapons are new for this update?

I didn’t read the site, or try the game because I heard its not working so well.

but hell i’d like to know.

Damn, I didn’t even get to build a dispenser as a spy before they fixed it : (

Weapons:
Demo:
Targe (replaces Sticky Launcher) - Shield, 50% less damage from fire, 65% less damage from explosions. Lowers max health. Right click lets you charge.
Eyelander (replaces bottle) - Large Sword, large range, if charging with the targe, automatic crit. Every decap gives you a health/speed increase, seems to cap out at 4 kills.
Scottish Resistance (replaces Sticky Launcher) - Doubles sticky count, you can detonate bombs in groups rather than all at once.

Soldier:
Direct Hit (Replaces rocket launcher) - Less splash damage on the rockets, but more damage in the smaller cone. Can 1 shot low hp classes (currently bugged to do 50% more damage rather than 25% more)
Equalizer (replaces shovel) - When you are at low health, speed increase and damage increase, can’t be healed
Bugle (replaces shotgun) - When you deal damage, you build up a rage meter. When its maxed out, you can use your bugle, giving all allies near you autmatic mini crits.
Gunboats (replaces shotgun) - Rocket jumps only deal 10 damage to you.

I got some milestones, but no new weapons. What gives?

  1. Steam is fucked up and you got screwed, or
  2. Steam is just bogged down by the number of people, and it’ll take an hour or two for your new weapons to show up.

Steam servers went down twice in the past half an hour I played…

When this server business quiets down, let me know. Because I’m just getting started, there are quite a few unlockables I don’t have and need to obtain. Right now, my “to get” list is as follows:

  1. Jarate
  2. Sandvich
  3. Flare Gun
  4. Axtinguisher

You should try getting them now…the random drop rate was insane last night.

I haven’t had a random drop in months.

Why am I the only person getting screwed?

Random drops just occur when I kill fuckers, right?

No…just randomly.
When you die, it’ll randomly say you found an item.

It could be an alt weapon, hat, token, or scrap.

Oh. Well, in that case, I might as well get down with the business. Is anyone playing on the SRK server right now?

There’s the “official crafting thread” over on Steam’s forums.

Steam’s fuckin’ up hard for me.

Same for me…:bluu:

on update day steam was going apeshit

i walked away with 7 camera beards

Good times tonight with achievement grinding til the server went down. Things we learned:

  1. The damage spread on the Equalizer is bad. Upwards of 30. We were trying out with low, low health (4 HP, iirc) and it did anywhere between 126 and 160. That means it’s basically a dice roll if you can kill a medic (or eyelander-wielding demo) with one hit.

  2. While it’s fun to eyelander/targe rush, spamming grenades while you rush in isn’t a bad idea. As you are charging, you can hit them with multiple grenades. Additionally, with perfect timing, you can land a crit grenade that does 360 (!!!) damage. That is, obviously, enough to kill anything other than a fully overhealed heavy.

  3. The train beats everything.

  4. The soldier’s suicide taunt doesn’t necessarily kill you. Overhealed Heavies can endure.

  5. The Eyelander is easy to get the crit with during a charge. Easier than the grenade launcher, for sure. It does 195 damage without variation. However, you can time it so you can land both a critical sword swing AND a hit from the shield, which does about 215 damage.

  6. While the Equalizer seems like it’s 100% better than the shovel, it does a measly 25-40 damage when you’re at full health. Granted, you’re probably not going to get within melee range completely untouched. Equalizer is still >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>shovel tho.

  7. When two demos charge at each other, the guy who started charging first will win the exchange. Under no circumstances should you try and counter somebody’s charge with a charge of your own.

  8. The Heavy rapes a charging demo.

  9. The Direct Hit doesn’t do that much damage. After we experimented with it, a rocket can do as little as ~65 damage, or as much as ~120.

  10. When you’re using the Direct Hit, the mini-crit bonus for hitting an airborne enemy applies regardless of whether or not you actually directly hit the enemy. Shooting the ground underneath a hopping enemy still yields a mini-crit, and does between 110 and 130 damage. This makes it so you can still chain together hits with the soldier by hitting them off the ground, and then shooting the ground underneath them for a second hit.
