So how many people here like turbine? I know most of you guys hate it.
I actually like Turbine…though I’ve only played it a few times.
What’s the hate about?
I mentioned ctf_turbine at our game a couple of days ago and people started bitching after a while. I think it was because I captured the intel like 13 times. I don’t remember who was playing Demo (bear?) but they’d mass stickies right in front of my base entrance so I couldn’t go in with the intel so I’d just rocket jump up to the vent and go in that way.
Yesterday was actually the first time I played Turbine, it seemed alright. It was one of the few CTF maps where it actually seemed really easy to capture the intel, which I liked. A smart demo can take out the Sentries due to the different angles you can come in, so you can’t just set up Sentry guns and get a free defense like you can in CTF maps like 2Fort where you need an uber.
I could see it being really bad on big servers (like 8v8 or even 16v16) because it was too small, but we were doing like 4v4 and it seemed like the right size
Only Europeans like Turbine.
I found Turbine to be fun if you use fast respawn or even instant respawn. Low player count also seems to help.
Does anybody know any good servers to play on for trying to get better? Most of the pubs I play on are pretty weak, I’d like to find one that has good players to up my game a bit

How you fuckers list Turbine as a noteworthy map and not cp_badlands is a mystery.

That’s because nobody mentioned cp_badlands, but now that you just did… badlands is great!!!
As you may know, before the last couple of sessions the usual SRK session was mostly 3v3. Most arena maps are excellent for that amount of people especially since that was Valve’s intention (supporting 3-8 per team). Plus, the way Arena plays out can be fun, exciting, and most able to reenact JWong Marvel comebacks. I think first blood, however, isn’t as great with low numbers.
There is a TF2F server I believe our very own Magnetro frequents that is 8v8, with most competitive elements (nocrits and I think class limitations for example). I myself don’t really go there but I’m sure this is a good pub to start. IP is 208.100.17.252:27015
I sometimes go into deathmatch servers to practice aim. These gametypes are most similar to real DM games like having random respawn locations and such and having no real gameplay objective, just mindless fragging. Only thing is that Scout, Soldier, Demoman, and maybe Sniper are the only classes allowed. IP’s are 67.210.240.134:27015 and 208.71.114.17:27017, Central and East Coast locations, respectively, if I recall correctly.

You know, honestly if I hated any maps it would be junction and…fuck i cant think of the name of it, but it’s the worst map ever.
What kills me is EVERY map in tf2 there are people bitching left and right. This ain’t cs man…what’s great about tf2 is if it’s a shitty map, I’ll take another class to compensate for it’s shittyness…thus making it not quite as shitty.
I love turbine, but for some odd reason I haven’t been playing it as much. The shit that I always try to do as an engie is build in the enemy vents. Its hilarious if you’re successful and have a tele exit up in there.
Yeah, I never said Badlands wasn’t a good map because it is. The only ones I dislike are Hoodoo (too easy to defend), Egypt (WAY too easy to defend), Junction (boring as shit), Hydro (seriously, wtF?), and 2Fort (the most overplayed map ever in the history of any FPS more than de_dust or broadside, not to mention that specific sentry gun placements totally make scouts useless)
Edit: Although I do admit having fun on Egypt as a Soldier because I’m pretty good at rocket jumping. It’s still retardedly hard to get a decent offense going, though.
