The madcatz allen screws are really crappy quality what would be a good replacement that could stand the occasional opening of the stick? I ask this because I just recently changed my buttons and one screw head is already stripped, does anyone have some suggestions? Thanks Guys!
lol… use the proper tools and the screws wont get stripped. u probably used an allen key that was too small for the screw. if u used the proper size it wouldnt been stripping
No i used the proper size allen key I triple checked before I did anything. I just want a better more solid replacement.
M4 x 12mm.
Choose any head style you want.
While we’re on the subject, what about replacement top bolts for the HRAP2 SA?
Could anyone give a me a link to some good ones? Just need a head start I want to get the right ones…don’t want to make the holes bigger than they are.

the question is did you use Standard (SAE) or Metric? Although the standard might fit, it’s still loose.
Slightly expensive, but search mcmaster.com for the following item #'s:
95836A339 - M4 x 12mm black oxide panhead philips drive - $11.86 per Pack of 50
91698A430 - M4 x 12mm black oxide flathead philips drive - $6.58 per Pack of 50
Priced per packs of 50, so you could get whatever head style preferred/needed and maybe sell some to other srkers?
Art has replacement screws for HRAPs. They work great, makes it so much faster to open a HRAP.
The HRAP2 SA top panel already opens easily via the six hex screws/bolts. I’m just wondering what size these bolts are so I can replace them if needed (my HRAP hasn’t arrived yet).
Thank You so much man! Sure I would give some out I would not charge you guys anything they are just screws. When I get them I will let you guys know in this thread.
I ordered part number 95836A339, the Phillips head screws. I let you guys know when I get em. It says they will ship tomorrow morning. BTW if you need some just shoot me a PM and Ill get in touch with ya.
Anodized aluminum bolts. Pick your poison! Ive used the purple. Great quality and really look dope!
Nice! Those blue ones would look great on the new chun te…
oh man i been looking for a place to get screws like this. its such a hassle having to open up the bottom panel and then the top for the HRAP.
If the allen screws are like the ones in the HRAP-EX SE…there is a very good chance you will not need to replace them in a long while. I’ve opened up the my EX-SE many times when I bought it and during modding and I have had no problems with the screws (they seem pretty sturdy). Just giving you some assurance.
Metric, metric, metric, metric! Always metric!
People that ruin their cap socket screws are using the wrong set of Allen keys. Metric to metric, not customary/SAE to metric!
The hex nuts (inside the HRAP and Mad Catz TE stick bases) that the cap sockets screw into are metric.
You may or may not find an SAE cap socket screw that will screw into those hex nuts, but the metric cap sockets will fit!
People lose parts when they’re doing mods because they don’t keep track of them and bag (ziploc) the little stuff that tends to get lost in clutter…
You pay for this with long trips down aisles at Lowes, Home Depot, or the local hardware store and looking for things online.
I’ve found metric cap sockets online that DO screw in nicely but never with the same headsize as the Mad Catz TE or Hori HRAP SA/SE cap sockets. You end up buying a metric Allen key set and using 3-4 of these regularly if you own more than a few joysticks! (Screw thread sizes for the Mad Catz TE and Hori HRAP’s are the same… Head sizes for cap socket screws are NOT.) You can find the correct THREAD size and lengths for metric cap sockets online but so far I haven’t seen anybody point out a listing for the same HEADSIZE as the TE/HRAP SA/SE cap sockets. I’m amazed none of the online game stores sell the right cap sockets, too. Akibarashop carries carriage bolts but that’s what a lot of gamers want to get rid of on their stock HRAP 3’s!
Great links here! Should be in the Esential threads sticky!
I agree!
Diagrams of various PCB’s (Agetec DC PCB, the Mad Catz TE PCBs, Hori PCBs) and the way to hook-up joysticks with harnesses should be there, too.
These pictures do appear in various posts but they never end up in the FAQs in Post #1 and such where people would naturally expect to find them.
FAQs are great but if the diagrams and pictures aren’t there then they aren’t as helpful as they could be…
The word METRIC should be underlined for various screws and parts, too.
SAE is pretty much an English/American thing. Most of the world uses Metric. Metric can be a pain to find in-stores but not impossible online. Most electronics and a lot of hobbies like trains and remote-controlled vehicles use metric parts at any rate.
I bought my metric cap socket screws from a guy unloading a bunch of parts. He was getting out of model train collecting and building!!
I Got the screws and they fit like a glove. Thanks Guys!
