Wasn’t it something along the lines of the Wii not being powerful enough to run SF4 without some serious cutbacks? I’m fairly certain, not 100%, that the arcade hardware for SF4 is quite similar to the architecture for either 360 or PS3, and porting between the two systems is - from what I hear - not that hard.
Whereas the Wii is known to be a weaker beast in general, which means graphics, effects, etc. would be scaled back. I’m not sure that Capcom felt it would be economically worthwhile to go through the trouble of porting a game that would A) look noticeably crappier, and B) may not actually sell well. Obviously we know now that SF4 took off in a big way, but I don’t imagine that was a sure bet.
Edit: Good examples: Look at Dead Rising on Wii vs 360, or hell, how about Arcana Heart arcade vs Arcana Heart PS2? Weaker than the game needs = serious hits
The game didn’t do anywhere near 100k (it’s closer to 50k). That saying being on the Wii had nothing to do with its failure as even the arcade version isn’t doing so hot.
As for SFIV on the Wii I assume because they didn’t want to bother spending the money downporting, much like they won’t bother putting the game on the PS3/360 due to the cost of up-porting. After all the game was developed solely on Wii hardware, even the arcade unit it came in is based around the Wii’s architecture.
Said it better then I could have.
Again Capcom obviously didn’t port SFIV to the Wii due to porting cost. And as of Capcom not believing in the Wii enough to make exclusives they are releasing Monster Hunter 3 for it one of their biggest franchises.
Sorry for the mispelling. I meant Hori sticks it’s hard to type on this little iPhone keyboard. I’ve edited my post so there shouldn’t be anymore confusion.
Since 2 or 3 years ago. The franchise is one of the biggest IP’s to EVER hit Japan. Since the PSP every entry has sold past a million copies in Japan. And if Monster Hunter G Wii is any indication it looks like the Monster Hunter 3 for Wii will be a pretty big success itself.
Are you saying it would have sold like hotcakes if it was on the 360 or something? Japanese people don’t like the 360 or (to a lesser extent) the ps3. They just didn’t buy the game cuz they think the vs. series is shit.
If you add the number of PS3s plus 360s sold it’s greater than the Wii.
If Capcom really wanted to market something they’d have a larger install base for a multi-platform release on the PS3/360 than a single release on the Wii.
The Wii is a casual console. Focusing a fighting game on the Wii is a huge waste. Imagine if MvC2 HD was only coming out for the Wii…
That’s pretty retarded reasoning. That’s like saying, “Hey! The Turbografx and SNES combined outsell the Genesis! They should just port to those systems instead!”
What does calling it a casual console even mean? I use mine to play TvC, Guilty Gear AC, Samurai shodown 2, world heroes, among other things, it’s got a reasonably cheap and good quality arcade stick by hori, there’s nothing about it that inherently makes it a “casual” console. Don’t let your prejudices keep you from playing this sweet game.
Its not since as you said the cost of porting to both wii and HD systems is too much due to downscaling/upscaling. So it means its just about as cheap to develop for both HD consoles as it is just for Wii. That is if it wasn’t initially made for the Wii board which it was.
just wish they had done this from the start and there would be a stronger scene for it as of right now. i mean when it first came out i was on it all day and all night just discovering how much like marvel it was, broken.lol i play both serious but i would love to see tvc played more and its nice to see other characters do good besides karas and the other tops. i play karas and chun as my main team but tekkaman and ken the eagle are fun to watch. hope this helps tvc out.ill have a karas and chun vid out soon
Much obliged for the advice! I have done my research and heard reports both good and bad. It’s still a great price for what I get, and I still have my awesome 360 Joker stick for HDR, so even if it ends up sucking it’s not that big a loss. It will see use one way or another.
