The thing in that video to note is momochis use of option select safe jump off the sweeps to punish viper’s ex seismo and backdash
I am so glad to be reading all these posts. This is helpful info that will help me become unstoppable with Gouki. I probably have the most well-timed Super & Ultra on this side of the galaxy. However, these tactics and strategies discussed in this thread were so foriegn to me. I never even knew you could throw a footsweep into the BnB combo for an untechable knockdown. Now, I’ve yet added another element to my game. Thanx-a-million!
Yeah maybe on your side of the galaxy, I’m from Pluto though, that’s not even considered a planet anymore!!
Um to add on to this thread, I dunno if it’s superstition or what but I seem to get the sweep more consistent when I plink the HK~MK, rather than doing one input.
i was gonna say this. a lot more consistent for me too.
what is a safe jump?
I’d kinda like to know as well.

I’ve been using it for this main reason: Let’s you play “rushdown” akuma. It’s a more calculated style than 3s rushdown, but allows for something other than running off firing grape cotton candy at everyone.
Force the guessing game, capitalize when you can. I say learn it, love it, then apply it to your current game and just add it to your arsenal…the more mixups the better.
That’s unlikely, damage scaling is linear except for extended juggle (some rule will prevent all hits to connect. Eg. BnB combo > lk tatsu > hp shoryu > exfc > shaku)
Well I didn’t say it was true…I was relaying what he said.
^Seriously if you don’t believe me check it for yourself do the loop with 3 HK’s then sLP->LK tatsu->Sweep and it does more stun and same if not more dmg than HP SRK
Edit: Below me I know it does more stun if not the same since sweep does 200 as does HP SRK but dmg wise I don’t know th scaling at the 11th 12th and 13th hits but I know 110 dmg from sweep and the 806050 from HP SRK is scaled to about the same I’ll do it on training mode an post the numbers later. Plus the whole untechable knockdown is worth the loss of 20 dmg or something so insignificant.
It is mathematically impossible due to scaling being percentage based.
There’s no reason the HP SRK would be scaled at this point, if all the hits connect it’s 190 dmg pts period.
It did 3 HK loops > lk tatsu > hp srk, total 415 (wow for no meter…) which match the excepted :
110+30+(110*.8)+(30*.7)+(110*.6)+(30*.5)+(70*.4)+(190*.3)
(just copy/paste into google if you wanna check)
I didn’t bother doing the sweep version but it’s supposed to be 391.
The difference in damage of the sweep finish and HP.SRK finish will always be 80 times the reduction percentage. So it will always be HP.SRK Damage > c.HK damage.
Remember you are trading damage for tactical value.
^yeah but the dmg really isn’t that much difference and it is the same stun which is more the point. Plus it almost always guarentees a corner for more lock down. There is a reason the top players are doing sweep over HP srk so why are people even questioning this?
All we said is hp srk does more damage than sweep. Nobody who knows how to play Akuma would question a tactical knockdown versus more damage :wonder:.
No disagreement from me. The sweep gives about 40 to 50 less damage on average, but doesn’t release offensive pressure.
it’s a jump-in attack on your opponents wake-up where they wake up into the last frame of your jump-in then you land and you can block any of their reversal attempts. basically your forcing them to block if they don’t wanna get punished like crazy.
something to note however is that you can’t safe-jump against characters with 3frame reversal’s because you need 1 frame of your attack in the air upon their wake-up and then you can’t block for 2 frames on the ground, thus if a reversal comes out in 3 frames it doesn’t matter how perfect your safe-jump is it will get reversal’d. that being said though you can fake a safe-jump and have it like a frame early so it looks like a normal one but you can land + block still… your attack just wont have a shot at hitting them.
With the right timing you can palm strike safely tho right?
