|| Taokaka || >:3 Edition

Love this game, love Taokaka. I’ve known since the first match vid I saw of her months ago that she would be my main.

I was lucky enough to get to play BB a few times before console release because an arcade about 2 hours away from me had it, although without training mode or consistent access I had a hard time learning it. I picked it up for 360 on thursday and it’s amazing the difference having it at home (not to mention an endless sea of other new people to play online) has made.

As of now I can somewhat consistently do drive loops from 5b 3c, 6c 236cc, back throw, as well as simple mashy claws combos. Next I’m going to work on taunt combos, I like the “safe taunt combo” that was posted a couple pages back and the 214214c -> taunt -> 214214c combo sounds awesome too.

Nobody talking about her Astral yet?

You can combo into it off of her back and air throws – just be holding the appropriate direction when the throw makes contact, then cancel into Astral the second you slam into the ground.

Yeah, if they have 20% life left and you land a throw, you can obviously finish them with a drive loop… but where’s the fun in that?

Anyways, that was as far as my testing got last night. I’ll try stuff with 3C, 6C, and 6A later.

Jubei ftw

Yep, I just got the Astral yesterday and I learned you can combo off the back throw and air throw, I think her forward C can also do it, Im not completely sure.

Couple quick questions.

1st. Jin? The fuck am I supposed to do against this guy? Jin players (and the scrubby ones) are probably who I lose to 90% of the time… T_T

2nd. The drive loop off of a backthrow. I read to do it as holding 9 after 2D and then hitting C -> 9D -> C etc, but I can only really get the first upwards drive and C to connect… the rest don’t hit. Was what I read incorrect or…

You’re doing 4B+C -> 236CC -> 2D~9 -> j.C -> . . ., right?

Otherwise, yeah it’s correct. You may just need to work on your timing.

Yeah, that’s what I’m doing. I’ll keep at it then.

I’m also working on mastering on the back throw drive loop combo. I can do everything but the 236BB 236BBBB ending. I can’t seem to finding the timing on the second 236B.

Is there a jump cancel in there or is the window just that small I’ll either continue the first 236B or he’ll tech and I whiff when I mistime it?

Moreover, what are some safe combos from neutral and air throws?

What’s the best follow up after I hit a standing opponent with a random 5C and I’m too far for 3C to connect afterwards? I usually just do 236A*n, D but I know there’s gotta be something better.

Also, I’m having a hard time using 6A as an anti-air… Any advice?

Cancel into 236C, 5B, 5C, 3D~6 then just go bananas.

SICK TAO! MUST WATCH!

BTW the Tao player name is Denpa.

Even thought I hate this game and my wife wont let me take it back because she loves V-13. This whole thread rocks, Tao is the only char in the game I will play because she is part Kat. So thanks a bunch for the videos posted. Gotta love the Taokaka (???

After a lot of practice on Thursday and Friday, I’m finally drive looping consistantly off the back throw. Huzzah

In fact, my win ratio online has gone up a ton simply because, for example against Noel. Once I do it to them once (usually grabbing them out of their d-spam crap), they tend to stop being hyper offensive, which gives me a chance to control the pace of the match.

I do have one question though: so I can land 4b+c, 236cc, 2d9 c 9d9 c 9d9 c, but then I can’t land another 9d9 to finish the loop. I assume that’s the end of the strictly basic drive loop? Considering 9d9 doesn’t take you up anymore, and instead launches you in the 6d direction. I guess if that’s the case I’ll just have to read your thread on Dustloop to get a combo to do from there Taoftw

Also, I saw a video where they connected 6b+c 6d6 c into a loop, still not sure how they did that. After practicing it for a few hours I can’t even consistantly get the c to hit. Its like they’re too low… any pointers? Or is it a spacing issue?

These might be character exceptions? Some characters you can only really do 2 loops on.

For 5b+c loops, I’ve never been able to do it either. There is either some super strict timing, or (more likely) it only works on part of the cast. If they’re just barely too low, in some instances you can j.a j.c 9d~9, and the extra hits will pick them up?

You could spend your whole life in training mode with Tao… there are 100 exceptions/differences/etc.

I’m just curious… Tao’s backstory says she’s a lycanthrope… But aren’t lycanthropes werewolves, not… were…cats?

O:

Just popping into this thread to say hello - I’m gonna be maining Taokaka as soon as I get my PS3 (I bought the game without getting a console… yeah.).

I’m planning on having one within this month so I’ll have plenty of time to get acquainted with the game’s manual.

Some of the combos in Tao’s ‘BnB and Combo’ guide look daunting and quite difficult, but hopefully I’ll master them when I get around to finally training in using them. I plan on trying out many other characters - Carl especially, but I’m going to main as Taokaka for sure.

By the way, I’ve seen in Tao’s video tutorial with the LE copy of the game, and I saw that crawling with Tao’s very effective. Is there a list of what she can dodge using it? I heard about 90% of Jin’s moveset, but I want to be completely sure on what can and can’t be dodged. With that kind of knowledge it’d be easy to punish any opponent you happen to come across.

Thanks a ton.

Ah that might be it… I pretty much only practice on either Rachel or Jin for training mode. I’ll have to do a little more research. I always forget how much of GG was character specific combos and shit… though it seems like there’s less of that in BB

Was planning on picking up a more advanced combo tonight anyway, hoping to not base it off a throw since atm I’m sort of reliant on that hehe

I’m finding 6a to be pretty useless. Anytime you have a chance to drive loop 3c seems to prorate much better.

Back throw and 3C seem to be all you need to combo or am I missing something?

Doubly late edit, I just realized her 6a is her weird sort of AA thing

Its alright as an AA, not really all that great for it. It can be used like a ghetto launcher if you’re in a position where they will be pushed out by attempting a 3c (and if they will be pushed out by that, back throw definitely isn’t an option as they’re too far). You can take it into a drive loop (I believe) with the standard 2d9 pattern.

I’ve also been wondering if something like this existed. IB + Crawl to punish a pressure string would be fucking sweet.
