if by worth picking up you mean top tier, yes. The dude is good. Very good.
rain or shine
we all still down for vet day tekken?
after playing the game extensively since it came out I think I have a general top ten for t6 narrowed down. And here is my list in no particular order
- steve
- julia
- lars
- bryan
- law
- eddy
- lili
- fat bob
- king
- bruce
Everyone on my list has excellent wall carry. Does high damage off nearly everything. Has a safe launcher. Has decent tracking. A good deal of natural combos. High damaging pokes. A consistent crush move. A decent throw game. Decent wall pressure. Finally pick up oki/ resets( since without tech traps you need a reason to make people lay there to take extra damage or guess on wake up mix up without just teching out of everything).
Now a few people were real close to making my list but one or two things just kept them from being better or on par with some of the people i listed. Like miguel has everything but decent tracking. Leo fall into the same category she lacks safe reliable tracking. Paul, raven and lee dont have a safe launcher. Baek however has everything but has to take a ton of risk during the match.
One final note finish my in depth look at wang and he is damn good. He is like a miguel with better tracking but less range.
Now I dont know how long it will take to actually form an opinion on how they rank from one to ten.
Agreement, for the most part. Exceptions…
I think Lee is better than Bruce. There is an extensive debate in the tier forums that all leads me to think he is. Similar launch potential, Lee hurts more, Lee’s got better wall carry and running wall game.
I would argue Miguel over King. I think the standing lows that track one side or the other plus the countless mids belay the need for a whole lot of tracking. Sick throw game, really good FC options, lots of NC’s, good damage, good wall damage. I will say his wall carry ender doesn’t allow for much from a distance.
I would also beg you to consider Bosko. I just recently read this…
“The top koreans (Rain, Nin etc) believe that Alisa is the best character in the game just because of her crazy movement. When questioned why so few play her then they replied that she is boring to play. But they said that if MBC or the like would start a Tekken league, similar to BW (Starcraft), where you actually have a chance to get paid in the future. Then she would be very popular because money is at stake.”
There is a korean tekken league similar to GOM/Starleague/MSL(Starcraft:BW). Its called Tekken Crash but im not sure if they had a season with BR.
Home and down for games.
lee is not better than bruce. Lee has more launchers than bruce but none of them are safe. Also bruce does more damage than lee. Bruce gets 100 points of damage off of all his launchers in the open. Lee does not. They both have the best wall carry in the game. I say bruces is better since his is off a stance with other moves that provide reset options and bigger damaging oki options in the open. Lees mist step is purely for wall carry. I dont know what the hell your talking about with running wall game like serious wtf is that.
Tracking is an issue since he has to take a risk to stop people from stepping him. Im talking about miguel. The lows that track to one side with a follow up low that tracks to the other is useless for stopping movement. Since if the first low doesnt track them then you will be more than likely hit/ launched punished on the whiff before the second comes out. His only mid that tracks is forward 4 which is slow and unsafe. It makes it hard for him to get off on stepper since he is really likely to whiff and be punished for it. So he needs to counter move movement rather than just use a move to stop people movement. Everything he has for tracking is unsafe. And andy when has tracking in a tekken not been important. Oh his throw game is good but your not really going to compare it with kings are u? Now his full crouch game is average. He has a mid launch, and a slow low launcher from FC. A bunch of people have that now. His wall damage is average andy compared to most of the cast. Most people in the game get 70 to 100 points off a straight up wall splat he just falls in line with that. And on a few stages his best wall combos dont hit clean. He has better wall carry than king. But king damage and his is the same in the open. King does more damage with a wall. King also has better oki with his gaint swing to pick up combo’s. or ISW to pick up combo’s or moonsault oki set ups. King also has better wall pressure with push tittle bash throw mix ups . And lastly kings back 1 has more range, follow ups and better tracking than miguels back both punches meaning he can fish for counter hits without running the risk of whiffing unlike miguel.
The alisa thing i dont really have a comment on. Because whether she is boring or not. Her movement is linear is it crazy yes but its not like a snake dash. And she doesnt have mix up’s from it from range where movement actually matters. The argument of a league is stupid since anytime in tekken history before when crazy movement cause a character to be dominant they have been whored out. We can go through the list and the characters were whored in absence of a league. The other thing is There have been a number or major tournaments since the release of BR and not a single alisa champion. You’ve had some people do well with her but not having a winner with her is telling.
Yeah they have had a season with BR on the crash. Team no respect cruised through everyone. it was another team with this awesome baek player that also did very well.
Dude lol i love watching Team No Respect. Those cats are hilarous
I listened to the latest podcast on IAMTEKKEN.com
and id have to agree this is something i talk to you about jay. All these tekkens have had record mode so you can see how punishable your moves are or you can tell what you can punish as well, and im not alone. Its annoying when you have to have a 2nd person to do this. They shouldve never taken it out. Though they said Markman(sdtekken) and Mr W. were sure that the next patch was going to implement this.
Obviously I’m barely even a Tekken novice, but Alisa does get pretty free mixup from anywhere more than 1 character length away. fff+3,4 and fff+2 are pretty much all you need. fff+2 is pretty much her go to move whenever you can get it out as it has great range, is crazy fast, and gives great + frames. From that you get your free up close mixup. When people start to duck the fff+2 you start throwing in fff+3,4 which is completely safe, and also fast. Both moves also track quite well (occasionally fff+2 gets sidestepped…but more often than not you just get a punch to the face and take 55 damage). Maybe it’s not the best mixup in the game, but it’s just 2 moves and opens up a lot of options, plus there’s a multitude of other stuff you can throw out for funsies like d/b+3, which has great range, is completely safe, and will crush the crap out of some highs…
I don’t know anything about her having crazy movement because she doesn’t have any special options like a crouch dash or anything…I guess she looks kinda crazy with the crab walk but…care to explain what’s so special about it (serious question, not assholery!)?
The only thing I can think of are things like when she runs she just floats instead of a regular run animation. That crap gets me everytime but I can’t think that that’s gamebreaking.
Ron by mix ups I mean you have to guess on her coming in. The running dash stuff she has can all be blocked standing. She doesnt have a 1 frame throw break or any lows from her movement to make you do anything other than block back. Not to mention anyone with a back 1 type move doesnt have to guess at all since they just knock her out of it.
Wave dash is a crazy movement thing that was effective because it was a 4 way mix up. There is a low that knocks down and gives oki. Safe mids and highs that gave advantage and launched. In addition to the throws.
With her without the low options you can just block and look for the throw. the advantage she gets is annoying but she doesnt really have any crazy mix ups to guess on when she is in your face to make it anything more than annoying. If she had a big low that tracked and knocked down from it then I’d be listening. The one low she has that knocks down from the jet pack stances doesnt have anything that really looks like it to mix it up with.
also ron there are no safe lows in tekken everything is generally ws4 punishable on block. The only exception or moves with a follow up because you can feint the follow up to recover.
oh anyone want to have a hurricane party tomorrow if they shut down tallahassee…
It sucks that she doesn’t have any really scary lows, but that’s just how it is (she has 2 that knock down, both really slow). My point is she gets in for free from range off the fff+3, which gives you your mixup, so her long range mixup is essentially her up close mixup.
Her d/b+3 is -11, and as far as I know/have been told, there is not a crouching/WS move in the game that fast, thus making it safe.
Lars WS4 is a -11 punish not sure about other people.
This daylight savings time shit is fucking me up. Feels so late.
according to tekken 5 dr frame data (which doesn’t guarantee anything but is the best we have at the moment) generic ws4 moves are 11 frames so theoretically if they weren’t changed then it’s punishable by ws4’s.
I stand corrected. Someone (James I think!!!) fed me some wrong info!
No I just gave you the CORRECT information. I was never seriously into frames in tekken so I couldn’t have told you if something was punishable based solely on frames.
all lows are punished by ws4, fc down 1 or fc down 2 in the cases when people ws4’s dont reach.
I didnt say she didnt have any mix ups but the argument was that her movement was gamebreaking Im saying she doesnt have any crazy mix ups to go with that movement because everything she has from movement can be blocked standing or you can just back 1 her out of it with people who has those options. Thats nothing compared to a wavedash, a lightdash, bryans step, flamingo step or lar’s dynamic cancel. All of which are still in the game and are used to elevated the play of the characters who have them.
James is right lows being punishable hasnt been changed ever in tekken. Its like down1 has always been 8 frames.
Nia told me just now that the state is considering shutdowning the school and public facilities because of possible run off bad wheather from the hurricane. If that happens post up here if you have to go to school/work. If everyone is off I will be willing to have everyone over for a fun day you know just fuck off on any game in a rotation.
Agreed.
James
You have any other tight animes i should be watching?
I havent gamed with anyone in a week is anyone getting down tonight?
Looks like everyone knows what the fuck about Tekken and I’m still trying to transition from 2D to 3D (I’m a Soul Cal player but SC feels nothing like Tekken to me). Is there anything I should do practice/training wise to try and get the feel for Tekken? It’s pretty fun but I feel like everything I try and do is instantly stuffed online (and offline vs. computer I guess). Learning Lars, at least when I do get a hit in I look like a badass.
EDIT: here’s hoping for no school at FSU tomorrow. two days off in a row = win

www.tekkenzaibatsu.com No other game really trains you for tekken tbh.

Dont take online serious (dont know why you would in that trash netcode)
-
play vs real people if your serious about becoming competitive.
