Tallahassee Thread: "I'd MIGHTY SMASH that!"

@Chris A: When I get back into town I’ll run some with my Team Chair. Secondary teams are fun but playing against Drew with Chair was so much fun. Got nothing to do here in jax so I’ll be putting in some time for real combos!

Also gotta get on MK too!

In before Chris A starts wrecking the whole town except Crespo

only cause im not there

I still don’t think I’ve played Chris in a single game of Marvel 3…maybe at SLC right after it came out…maybe.

Ive only played him once, in the Gamescape tournament.

Games at my place at 4pm. Hope Drew can make it out since he’ll be gone for a bit… Come one come all…

Does you know any good , and fast mods in Tallahassee and how much do they charge?

Speak to Chris A (Soul of Ignorance), he’s the guy you want to talk to about mods.

Yessir. What you need done?

Speaking of being right, didn’t Mike J tell me that MK9 stance change was intended to do nothing?

Seb doesn’t think so!

So take it easy Team Tallahassee, Keep tappin them buttons, and know when i get back, im gonna be ready for more games!

edit: imma still be on the boards though, i aint dying or anything

Try to have fun, Drew.

What he said.

Got a new laptop with an actual graphics card. Any PC games within the last decade that I need to play? I sound like I’m kidding, but really. . . hit me up with them recs. Definitely playing SC2, just got the demo and it is fun as fuck.

Solidly plays PS2 emulator so I was playing Melty for a hot minute. I would like to play that game for real!

i could tell u now i was thinking from looking and reading about the game that a lot of the mechanic were very similar to tekken mechanic’s. The throw system is similar to tekken in general with breaks and being able to duck them, even the ways that u can avoid and whiff punish throws just on a 2d plane. Pokes and footsies are also very similar. Like your high low mix up on versatile lows to force standing, also using a strong mid high pokes with throws to force ducking then exploiting. The fact that the basic priniciples of the game initial a guessing game and the need to out think your opponents. Also it uses the same poking standard as tekken where high can be ducked but are generally some of the fastest and most spammable moves in the game. Mids are used to blow up crouchers, and are usually the basis for most launch/juggle mix ups. Lows are used to seal movement and force people to guess on the mid throw mix up.

Even strings are used the same. Where in tekken every character has a ton of string but hell if u will really find good player completing them. Partial strings are use in the sameway as most partial string give higher benefit than completing them by being safer. They also have a guessing game of making people guess on if your on going to do a series of shorten strings or nail them by completing one when they anticipate and try to move or take an action before the last move. Which is generally how u pressure in tekken to get in a position to then go for launchers or knockdowns. Mk9 has these very same features.

Now its not all tekken the zoning mechanics work a lot like mk2’s zoning did. But punishing is also very similar to tekken there are few if any universal punishes. A ton of stuff is character/positional specific. Overall i like the look of the game but have yet to really get my hands dirty, mainly cause i dont trust NRS and they are the worst part of this game so far. Most of the stuff i thought about with the game has been pretty much confirmed by tom brady. Mk9 is a throwback game, its built more on the old school fighting game principles, which is refreshing in this day and age. How fun it is i can say but its definitely new and thats worth something.

With all that said it is not the next mvc3 or even close. There are way to many stupid glitches that derail gameplay and a few exploits that are down right retarded. Hell they are potentially gamebreaking once people get good enough to be consistent. Like jump punch on hit being a guaranteed throw mix up, um stagger state resets(especially with characters that have unblockable set ups, cyrax, raiden, and reptile already have a few), non univeral properties on breakers, forced backroll for guranteed oki, throws not being able to be broken while blocking and the ui sucks.

@Jay: Damn, I was just talking to Chris A about how MK9 feels like a goofy Tekken (and MvC3 is like a bastard doujin game, like a wannabe Melty). Glad to see I’m not the only one on that tip.

@Jarv: Hmmm. Killing Floor is way too fun, Left 4 Dead 2, Magicka, Minecraft, etc. I haven’t been doing much PC gaming (or ANY gaming outside of fighters) in a long while.

just say no to minecraft its that secret crack. Honestly mvc3 feels like melty and tvc’s love child.

Oh to be young and up all damn night lol.

Anyone see the Presidents correspondents party trump roast? lmao!

I appreciate the insight man. Sounds fun, but not enough to warrant a purchase. ill wait for BBCS2. (too be fair i want to learn all games so that i can have comp with everyone, ill prolly pick it up later down the road)

Chris A. Ill be hitting you up in a couple hours for games.
