The thing about all this shit posted is you guys don’t want me to quit and I get that but riddled in your posts are concessions as to why this game isn’t that good. Why should I play a game that the best people in town admit is flukey and random?

Logan you just told me you have to play scrubs as if they were JWong or else you may lose. Thats not a good thing…

Ron, I did drop Rufus links but bro, my SF4 effort was only slightly greater than your MvC2 effort. I never liked that game either. I played Sagat in Vanilla so I could Cable/Sentinel wins out randomly. Also, I didn’t think T6 was a good game at all. Maybe the prettiest/worst Tekken yet. Mostly because of Rage Combos (The KFC of Tekken). Still it was better than M3, IMO.

I get that there is some level of skill, but I also feel like the three “best” in town are three people playing teams with the better gimmicks in the game.

And Crespo is good, but dude just wins the day one character lottery with three tournament level characters and never looks back. (Could have been less luck and more foresight but IDK. :lol: )

MikeJ, You shouldn’t feel bad about winning with gimmicks. The game is made that way. Magneto is like the only skill character in the game IMO and there is gimmicky crap with him too.

Everyone, if in fact ALL games will be created so that anyone can win then I will play older games. I want to know that I lost because the person playing me out thought me. I had that in MvC2, CvS2, 3S(which I dislike but still give the credit of being a good game).

P.S. Logan still has a copy of MvC3 so its not like I’ll never touch it again. Also, I would never stealsie…I’m on this Smoke, Nightwolf, Kabal tip. Might hit up Barackka Obama too!

I would like to point out specifically that you have definitely leveled up in this game a lot since it’s been out and I think I’ve played against you more than any of the other so called " good guys" and I can honestly without just trying to be nice, say, that I feel like you have a lot of potential and understand the bAsics and even a lot of advanced crap, and I appreciate the fact that when you lose to something you respond by legit trying to understAnd why what Happened happened, and usually do learn something from it.

You’re still fairly new to the “crew” here at least in my old man eyes, but I am not saying you suck or you’ll never be good. Far from that.

Also, I like winning more than anything win it comes to most things, rons post reminded me of that, so I must admit the more people there are to own in a game the more I want to play it.

The problem was you started the rules announcements stating that if we’ve been to one of your tournaments, we know how this’ll go.

Then how do you let other people tell you how to run your tournaments. When someone makes a complaint you cave to them. That isn’t any different. So stop contradicting yourself and get your shit together.

I didn’t, but those words are echoed frequently and I always have this slightest fear they ring true with my situation. I appreciate the support.

Andy if you don’t like it, dont play it. There’s a fuckton of new fighters coming out that you’ll be able to give a spin. I understand everyone wants everyone else to keep playing so newer people can lvl up, etc, but in the end, you have to have fun playing the game. If we were playing just for the sake of playing then no one here would be good at anything b/c we’d be too spread out. I think some specialization is good.

I don’t think I’m going to get into MK9 unless I see something I really like. I’m not hyped for it at all.

MikeJ you beat us all fair and square; it’s our fault for not knowing the match ups, not yours for using the character lol. If that were the case, I wouldn’t be able to feel good about ANY of my FR wins.

Fighters are different now. They’re probably never going to be as difficult as games like Marvel 2, CvS2, GGXX, etc. However, I think everyone is severely underestimating the impact of the internet on the state of games as well; no fighter ever released in the US has had a strat guide with virtually the first 3 years of research done for us. The game just came out a couple months ago. Who knows how it will evolve? It’s already a different game from when we went to FR. It is for that reason I’ll continue to give it(marvel) a chance, but it will fall down the list as more shit comes out (TTT2, the new Type Moon game, BBCS2, etc).

Andy, most of my wins come from Magneto (or Wesker with the Thor team) these days. Zero is probably my weakest link atm…which is why he’s going to get leveled up when I have free time…because believe it or not, characters can advance past day 1 shenanigans and it does matter.

Andy and I are old, fuckin-A old. So god damn old that we played in the tilt @ Gov sq. in SFII beating the shit out of college kids that listened to Faith no More and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. That just shows you the time line there. If you been playing fighters that long you have some credibility. Even if it is opinion.

I happen to share this same opinion, I have not liked a capcom fighter since cvs2. Tekken reached its peak with tag. Andy do you agree with that? If you played these games the amount we did in college and played in the number of tourneys we did, we were infatuated with these games. And everything that has come out since has just not lived up to the god juice that was created from the past. You guys are right, we are going to compare it to the past, because those were absolute classics. Maybe the best fighters ever(including mvc2 in this reluctantly).

An analogy I can give you is Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Remember the oldies, god they were good. Then this crystal skull with soviets and shia la douche comes out or Jar Jar and shitty kid acting(god damn anakin was awful in phantom menace) and it just kills it for you.

Now, I kinda think it may be a generational thing as well. For example if you look at 2 movies that have been made about gamers like us, they tell very different views from gen x to y. Check out these movies to compare and you will see what I am talking about.

You know me, if a game is popular, if i play it or not, I will still host tourneys for you guys in it. Speaking of which, I will have a date for your SF AE tourney by the end of the week. It will more than likely be in June and I will gather the usual out of town suspects.

All the guys not from the og crew days, I say thanks for keeping this scene alive. Since getting married and becoming a father, etc. Fighters in my life drifted out of the top 10 and that is another reason I think it takes allot for me to really love it. Tekken seems like it is the only franchise that has held my attention since college.

Is anyone hosting mk9 tomorrow? I was excited about oldskool night that was discussed as well. I have tennis but would be down to play somewhere tomorrow. Let me know.

Nah but seriously, that is the one thing that I admitted to you I will still sort of admit about this game. And that is that its easy for people at a basic level in the game to win/comeback/blow you up for making a small mistake. Where in mvc2 , that small mistake might cost you half your character, in this game it could easily cost you a full character.

In mvc2 if you made ONE mistake, and lost a full health character 100% to 0%, you looked at the guy next to you with some respect. Like , dang dude, you got me man. But in this game, and maybe this is me partially having some of the same feelings you are about new games, if that happens, I don’t get that same feeling. I’m just sorta like, man, he didn’t even do anything tight right now I just handed him that… :frowning:

But thats when you just gotta go, okay man, I’m not gonna let that happen again. Its just a little bit differently emphasized/prioritized skillset that other games, but you gotta recognize how to completely prevent opportunities for basic combos to punish you. It may mean playing a little less risky, heck thats one thing I’ve found in this game I’ve had to adapt and play a little less risky and quit rushing in as madly as I might in mvc2, because I can’t get hit by something and go “i’ll get him next time though” like I could in mvc2. There might not be a next time. (in mvc2 there wouldn’t be a next time if I was playing Mixup, but in this game there won’t be a next time against anyone)

Am I making any sense here? lol

I admit playing like a random in SFIV(just making a general point) i can sit down and just play a random character and win by footsies alone but in m3 like any random shit, and or mashing in between holes in block strings, dropped combo gets me blown up and the character dies. But doesnt that feel good!!!?!!!?!?! It makes you go back and get your shit right and tight, and it keeps your shit on point.

I just room to room yelling just found out the solution to the Andy Problem guys.

Everyone wants Andy to play, because he is fun to play with and he is generally fun to have around. So his approval of a game is pretty important to us, right? If Andy doesn’t like a game, we can’t play a game with Andy! That sucks man! Andy is cool! Yeah!

Well here it is, who cares if he plays as long as hes around! He’ll still be there and he’ll still watch and commentate! Heck, let’s be honest, he’s still going to play! He just might not be good! But you know he can’t resist the urge to call downs and try to demoralize someone in game!! He just can’t resist it! Its in his nature!

So basically what I’m saying is, just chill! We don’t have to argue with him about whether a game is good or not, he’s always going to give us his opinions, and hes still going to watch us all play if we’re all playing at the house

I was mainly playing Smash when Tekken 5 was released. I met all you guys around the T5 era, but T6 is the only game that’s been released since I’ve fully been playing with you guys that I (thought) Andy liked.

Adonis and Jay are (almost??Just??) as old as you guys and they can stomach the new games!
