Yeah, but as far as capcom, did u2(Adonis and Jay) play hardcore in the Mvc2 and cvs2 scene? I know they dug tekken b/c that is how we met them at slb years ago. That is what I am saying we lived those games, did they? Sorry to talk like you guys aren’t reading this

I remember first meeting Adonis at the SLC at FSU for tekken tag tournament I believe. And he was with Bernard, only old school people remember Bernard. Bernard was the man at Tekken, and I think Adonis was like his student, haha. Adonis, now take this with a grain of salt cuz I used to do 10-hits and think that made me good, but I remember Adonis being not that great at tekken but he learned fast. Then eventually someday he randomly was racking 20 plus win streaks in tekken tag when we had gatherings.
Also Jay, I remember him coming out with Adonis a couple times maybe when he was new to town. I think I met him at Funstation back when we were playing Tekken 5 there? And he was introduced to me as “Project”. I don’t know if I knew his name was really Jay for a little while.
Basically you got this in terms of oldness in my eyes in this towns gaming scene, i’ll make a little list and try to include everyone (Keep in mind i’m mainly just mentioned people that are STILL HERE)
Andy/Gmike/Ed - OLDEST OF THE OLD/ members of the original crew (Richard/K-mike/TekkenMIke/Mbizzle/ others who I can’t remember right now sorry you’re not here anymore)
Logan - pretty dang old, but was young compared to these guys when I started playing tekken at the arcade and Andy was my “Arch-Nemesis” according to my (scrubby) friends who thought I was godlike cuz I could do 10-hits. He was like the only guy that ever beat me and I remember every time I beat him I thought i was the MAN.
Adonis/Jay - Adonis predates Jay in my book, but both around the time I mentioned earlier in this post.
Ron/Kevin/Chris(Logan) Gray/James/Terrence/Nic Lynn other “new” TCC people. (i think Quincy( rakaneth) falls into this group too)
Matt - Showed up somewhere in between this New TCC era, but before crespo/mike c. in my memory. First time I remember was him coming out to play 3S at my grandparents house when I was hosting over there for some reason.
Crespo/ Mike C. - showed up on my radar at least somewhere in between these “new tcc” people and the “new NEW” people.
Then you got these new school guys who I’m too old to really put in different categories, but

Well that might not mean much to you new guys if you still think I suck haha, but I thought maybe it could offer some encouragement.
I came in back when adonis lived in villa del lago in 2003. thats where i met Bernard, Jay, Adonis and then later you Logan. I would say it was around the same time as Ron/James. but i was introduced to the other half of the fighting game community not the folks that were playing up at TCC till much later.

Actually, yeah, Logan hit the nail on the head. Andy is good at fighters and I like good comp, so I want his ass to stay around. Plus, NOBODY in this town talks shit like him, except maybe Jay but he’s just serious when he says shit and people laugh anyway.
I’ve been playing FG’s for a long ass time, but mostly got started back when CvS2 dropped. Then I met Priest in Jacksonville about six years back and we would hit them up nonstop ever since, haha. He hooked me up with GMike when I moved out here.
@GMike: Speaking of tennis, you up for giving me some intro lessons at some point? I’ve always wanted to play, but the closest I’ve ever been was just being a beast at some ping-pong. I think Drew plays, too.
RE: The tournament: I think I just had the idea it was 3/5 because we were just down to four people. I mentioned it ONCE during our match when MikeJ was one-up after that pause. (Drew: My annoyance with the pause was not losing the match, it was because you didn’t give us the option of asking each other whether we should continue or not, which is what most tournaments would do. I paused because Mike stopped playing and assumed he would be thankful for it, but when you said ‘restart’, shit, why would he argue that?)
@Crespo: MAN, I have been preaching that shit for FAR too long with no responses. Tomorrow night, I might play three or four games of Marvel, but I’m going to have either ST/VS/Garou running the whole time.
3/5 is generally just winners/losers finals and grand finals (which is top 3, not top 4), though most tournaments these days stick to just grand finals being 3/5 (which is how I think it should be).
Honestly, running a tournament is easy as fuck. Tio does everything for you.
um im pretty old but its all good. To gmike i only took cvs2 seriously to prepare myself for sf4 cause i thought the engines would be similar. When everyone was seriously playing cvs2 and u and mb were beasting i was on the alpha series pretty hard but no one else in town anywhere played the game like that. I played marvel way before i met u guys learned a few infinites on a pad bitches then dropped it cause everyone played madden at school. The only fighters people played were sc2 and ttt. Well i sucked at tag but was beastly at sc2 my ivy was gdlk. I sucked at t4 but adonis and bernard mainly bernard since adonis wouldnt play u if u sucked played me up. I ended up with a pretty solid marduk.
T5 is when i got good enough to play with u guys and thats when t5 and 3s were the business. and im calling it either the tan or grey urien i will play anyone for it!! I wanted to get really good with the kof series but no one was playing when i was interested. And ron u are right technically it is “j” really its j.j. but that another story. but hell andys name is fred and shumasteve is so not a shuma. Leave it to meg to call people out on names lol.
For the games thing i do agree with a lot of the things andy says about the newer games. I think a lot of us old school people equate skill to though process. Its not really execution or things like that but being able to out think ur opponents. While i disagree with him and say that it does require some skill to play these games its just not the same amount or kind of skill. To me the thing that pisses me off with the newer games is just the inability to really out think your opponent or turn the game into a virtual chess match. Match ups and balance factor from character to character is just really out of whack. Now most of the games we grew up with were just as broke if not more so but they required a fair amount of effort to consistently exploit such mechanics.
Which lead us to respect or not tear about the bullshit in games because if u faced someone who could consistently pull off the bullshit they kind of deserved it. Not that we didnt cry and moan still, we just kept playing instead of quitting. Now its like some of the new bullshit is just as dump but requires no more than a press of a button or a good decision at the character select screen. I really love picking low or under powered characters in games and making that shit work. Thats what was fun for me but most new games punish u way too much for doing so. Meaning there is no longer just bad match ups but one or two that are flat out unwinnable. So now i say if your having fun keep playing if not let it go its not worth it. But remember this is the new age of gaming and multiple game developer have said they have to make games this way too make people buy them. So it going to be this way for a while.

This is the most I’ve seen posted from you guys since Marvel 3 came out.
All Ive got to say is this: being the new guy on the block is hard. Keeping up takes a lot of work, and it kind of sucks that games aren’t as hard as they used to be because being ‘good’ in a game now doesn’t mean as much. Unfortunately, what’s out is out and its simply what I have access to for the most competition.
Honestly, though, Adonis hit it on the head. The internet makes getting proficient at gaming much easier. Chances are I could take 3 months, go practice something like CVS2 and ST with the same intensity that I play SF4/MvC3 and be at a semi competitive level as long as the competition exists. I’m here with Adam right now and he made an excellent point: games like MvC2 weren’t planned. The advanced level of play wasn’t planned by the developers. It was discovered over time through the players and thus developed as it has today. Obviously, some games are simply better designed than others, but all in all, its the players who are doing the work, not the company.
As far as MK goes…
