Talking Points: Discussion in the Fighting Game Community

xes you open your mouth and you ruin every thread you speak. Stop it

at this point I’ve normally learned enough that talking to you guys when you get all torches and pitchforks is silly, but it’s just so amazingly directly relevant to the OP.

So lets recap, we’re talking, everything’s fine, black shinobi says ‘sorry for the slight derail’, pertho shoots off seemingly at random and all the usual suspects jump in, noting that it wasn’t Pertho being all aggro that started it, but the guy he was freaking out at.

This is exactly the problem. And why it will never be solved. It’s always different when its you (general you) and your pet internet grudge.

Dude stop being an angsty little twat and shut the fuck up already, god damn.

I guess that’s a framing method you could use, if you wanted.

The thing you’ve gotta consider is that to me, if there’s gonna be this kind of thing, the placement is absolutely perfect.

The more you folks rage/troll/whatever in a thread about how disruptive and damaging that exact kind of behavior is, the more you show the nature of the complaint and how endemic the problem actually is.

Edit: And I’m the one who was being cynical and saying ‘eeh its the internet, it’ll be like that’. Still, to be proven so very very right is irresistible.

Annnnnd… the original conversation starts…now!

Sorry, I’ve been busy with other things so I couldn’t respond in a timely fashion, and the site was down when I had time to check (whoop).

Anyways, I have no clue what you’re saying at this point, you’re running one of those circle things on me hoping I just give up it seems like right now. I mean yes, I do agree there are some people who will blindly add to the conversation “Guilty Gear sucks because its anime!” and will run it to the ground (ala what Melty Blood had to go through.) But in your statement you’re also combining people who actually have rational reasons for not liking said thing, but if it turns sour then it’s bad. It really just seems you wish people could state an opinion and the other party not get mad. It just isn’t possible and the idea of it is NOT going to happen, which brings me back to my original statement, “Why did you make this thread, it’s pointless and no wonder why you scrapped it because it isn’t an obtainable goal.” If I am wrong in any of my observations please point them out.

Brood War players would like a word with you about that statement.

I don’t even know if you’ve actually read the initial article at this point. I’ll again, simplify it:

People overreact a lot. Almost way too much. When you overreact, your anger and emotion cloud your judgement, and nobody solves shit. Never once did I say, or even imply, that people with legitimate issues with certain things have no right to get angry. If people are slighted in such a way that is uncalled for, yeah get angry. But understand what that means. It doesn’t mean you have a right to jump to conclusions and ignore the context of a situation. That’s what I’m talking about.

You’re saying it’s useless and I disagree. I’m not talking about people just going into a conversation saying “Guilty Gear sucks because it’s anime!” but people saying “Nobody cares about Guilty Gear because Blazblue exists.” It’s a hyperbolic, mostly untrue statement-- but it’s purported around because it’ sounds cynical and people equate cynical with smart.

This is like most of my article man. That’s like the whole point. It’s spelled out pretty clearly. I appreciate conversing with you about it, but there’s plenty of place in that piece where I state quite literally that whole argument I just gave you.

I do think it’s an obtainable goal as well. The goal is to not shut people up, the goal is to separate being cynical from the definition of being intelligent. Because they aren’t the same, but a lot of people think they are. People immediately have a visceral negative reaction to things, not only because their pessimists, but sometimes because they want attention. It fucks up problem solving. I think if we distance our adherence to insane hyperbolic cynicism and label it as an unattractive quality when the situation does NOT call for it, then people can still disagree-- still get passionate about their arguments: but discussion doesn’t shut down and people come to a solution.

I don’t know. Our VF community is pretty small thanks to logistics and the very likely possibility of it not being a main game at EVO, but when people ask me why I still play it or like it I just tell them “it’s the best game here.”. I they press on I tell them the things I like about it. It has the fastest pace of any game out right now, it’s more engaging than the rest because of how execution and reactions and it gives you more options in match. People can try to refute my points but none of what I said was biased, just the facts.

When I say it’s the best, I don’t mean it in a way that the other game suck(they don’t), it’s just FS and VF in general is that much better.
