Vs Nu I found that a short sledge and a strong sledge can work better than throwing out a strong sledge cus a good nu will bait it and punish. Its not very effective but it can help sometimes in certain situations. I still need alot of help vs Nu tho.
@Milkround- Gotcha, been playing some more Tager and I feel like I’ve gotten a little better

^Umm LQ quality recorded match of me vs. a friend ^_^;;;;
Usually after my B-sledge, I like to mix it up a little and throw sometimes, and then 623c + bread and butter combo. (forward c then d, or forward c, projectile, etc. etc.)
However against people that play against me often, they know to tech-throw out of it :<
Well, I’ve heard and by past experience, that they can’t tech out a throw if you didn’t hit them before that (i.e sledge) So if you’re friends adopted your sledge throw trick to reg. throws just do Tager’s 360B/A. regularly without sledge.
Throws can be teched out, but regular 360B/A, I doubt can be tech’d out.
you can tech any throw, even command throw, if you are in hit stun or block stun
I am curious, does Tager’s back dash play an important role? In some videos it seems like he dodges many attacks even if it looks like it should of connected.
^^ Yea His bacdash lasts the longest of all characters and has invisibility frames. Perfect for anticipating moves of getting out of rushdown combos for a 360 or 720.
Been fighting Mike Z the whole day. Really hard to win against him.
But after playing with him, I just found out how important 5C could be.
And yes, Tager’s backdash is probably one of his best move. It has full invinsibility frames and you can connect throws/ 360/ 720, if they’re within range.
An important role for Tager is to learn how to backdash at the right time.

But yeah, I just discovered the godlike properties of back dash today, it has stepped up my game immensely.
Is it just me or does the atomic collider seem picky? I’m trying to get the basic BnB combos down and except for the times when I’m obviously late, I can’t see why I miss it so much.
Same thing with his 720 super. I played on a pad a couple times before I got it for my xbox (only stick I have right now) and I seem much less accurate on that. And I’m a gief main.
The big thing with the collider is that the actual throw/catch portion of the move doesn’t come out until C is released. So when you want the actual character to be caught, just let go of C.
Wow, that’s really good to know. I did some more practice today and my timing greatly improved. Really can’t explain what I’m doing differently, but I think I was timing my button release more with the character being by his hand, which goes along with what you just told me.
Edit: Actually, I think I did know that, but was just bad at executing. They have to work like that to be delayable, right?
They don’t have to for it to be delayable. It could just auto grab the guy the moment he is in grab range.
for me, the collider had an “Ah-ha” moment with the timing and the like. Though sometimes you need to execute the move quickly for it to grab (Like after any throw for example. You need to throw and buffer the collider in before the hit starts so you can guarantee the grab). Once you have the timing down, you won’t forget it.
Yeah, that’s pretty much how I’m feeling now. It wasn’t so much of an “ah-ha” as a step back and realization that I had just nailed it 5 times in a row.
Now I need to work on combo starters that aren’t throws. I can’t seem to land any under a lot of pressure from chars like Taokaka.
Do you think Tager would benefit from a forward dash or does his QCF+A accomplish that a lot better?
Also, what are Tager’s best pokes? I hear his St. C is good, but I usually trade or get hit when I use it ^_^;
5C is a decent poke, but the range isn’t much. Better off backdashing instead of exchanging pokes (at least I think so… I’m a rachel player for the most part though.)
I know every time i see him charge up the Sledge (236b, specifically) I usually go for CH Fork which leaves him wide open for doomcombos.
However, the A version comes out very quickly, and the follow up is (More often than not) unexpected. So use it as you will.
5C is still Tager’s best pokes. Because you can link it with 5D to 236B > 5C > 6A > 2C > 623C > (whatever mixup combo you normally do from this on) Typicall 6C then 5D, but you can also do B sledges afterward then Sledge A whiff to do 360B or 720…
5C = Best poke
I went from loving Tager to being totally disheartened in a day. He seems soooo bad against the couple chars at the top, not to mention that he seems to have to reset you to actually do massive damage. That doesn’t seem to apply to a lotta other chars. cough V-13 cough
I watched Jan in the sbo quals vs Raph, and it seemed like the damage scaling really caught up with him towards the end of a really good combo. Tager just can’t put out enough hits…
Against Nus…I just try to get in using the Sledge, mind you I don’t recall if I’ve won more matches against the Nus I’ve fought, or if I lost.
The ones I have a big trouble with are Arakune and Jin ATM, I guess I haven’t faced a really really good Nu yet (though the Nus I’ve fought were good in their own terms, they knew what they were doing for the most part when I played against them).
I once watched a Tager vs. Nu13 match where the Tager player literally just WAITED for an opening to damage Nu.
Against Nu at least, be patient and time your attacks/Sledges. Also try to stay as close to her as possible; eg here’s a combo involving the Collider-
Anything–>:dp:+:snkc:–>:d:+:snkd:
The :d:+:snkd: will combo and will put you close to them, plus with the Nu magnetized you could go for a mix-up or a chance to set them up for the 720.
I don’t if what I wrote is very accurate or helpful, but it’s from my own experience against some Nu players.
You mean his QCF B, because his A version of sledge barely if at all moves him forward. But yeah, he doesn’t need a dash with 2D and the moving version of his sledge. Although being able to change the distance it travels via charging would be nice.
Best pokes?
Standing A, B are great and have fantastic speed albeit limited range and while 5C has great range and damage, it is indeed slow. 6A works pretty well also and of course 5D is always a good friend.
