|| Tager || nani?!

Man I am having a very tough time with Tager. I can’t beat nu, Tao, or Bang. Bang is combo heavy and Iam always blocking. Tao is fast and has this unblockable super, how do you dodge that? Nu is Nu.

For Tao’s 214214C, just crouch and it will whiff, she will be recovering for like an hour in counter hit state just in front of you, you can punish with anything you want.

@Wellman- Thanks for the info.
Man Jin is prob. my most difficult match up ATM, waiting for the opponent to do a D attack or projectile doesn’t help when most of the time they charge at you with Normals or Ice Car.
How do I handle Jins again?
Also I think I have a combo setup that can do BIG damage, gonna test it later on-
:qcf:+:snkb:–>:snkc:, :r:+:snka:, :d:+:snkc:–>:dp:+:snkc:–>:r:+:snkc:–>:hcf:+:snkd:–>:snkc:–>:dp:+:snkc:–>:r:+:snkc:, :snkd:–>:dp:+:snkc: (to get them close to you)–>Finish with throw super or a mix-up

The :qcf::snkb: needs to be a counter hit to combo the c I think

and you cant combo :dp::snkc: after :snkd:

but you cant catch them if they recover in the air.

Tagers:bdp::snkc:
When he is charging he is almost invincible for like a few seconds. But one match my magnetic meter was full and I did :bdp::snkc: while Arakune was attacking.
I end up parried his attacks multiple times but the weird thing is I repeatedly entered the command quickly and it instantly parried multiple attacks. I don’t know exactly how I did it or how it works. I saved that video so I am about to review it.

Second if you are charging up and being attacked up close, is there a way to get out of the attack or counter?

edit: nvm about this. You can’t parry any attacks unless their pretty slow.

Now my main problem now is finding a normal attack that can poke through openings. Tagers normals are so slow that it always get countered, its stupid.

Yeah, oddly enough I could’ve sworn seeing a vid where Tager comboed St. C–>Fwd+A…

I don’t plan to catch them; I plan to set them up for a 720 :wink:
Had a session with a friend yesterday who has gotten better with Nu and plays a good Arakune. I won like 15 of the 20~25 matches we had yesterday, most using Tager. I really need to be more patient and time my attacks with him…

Some critique please.

Here’s a video of me losing miserably to a Jin player at a tournament.

Tell me everything you think I did wrong and what I can do get my Tager to look a little bit more like this:

kidding, of course, but any feedback from better Tagers would be appreciated.

I think you mean 421b. It is not invincible, it only auto guards

Just a few things I picked up on a quick viewing:

-don’t be afraid to jump when moving in. use your superjump to cover distance more quickly, and look for opportunities to use tager’s jumping 2c which is a seriously excellent move

-learn throw combos. you landed a throw on Jin and just… left it at that. Tager’s throws can lead to some serious Soviet damage.

-practice your combos and execution. obviously i can’t see what your fingers are doing, but it looked pretty clear in the video that you were trying things and they just weren’t happening. go into training mode and practice any moves or combos you struggle with until they become second nature.

-time your use your b sledge to go through projectiles. obviously it is a very useful move, but you were using it at the wrong times and being punished for it.

-if jin is using icecar outside of combos (which this guy was), block and punish it with a 360. the move is seriously unsafe, and any jin who just throws it at you is begging to lose huge chunks of life. slam him into the ground a few times and he’ll probably rethink his strategy.

-learn to utilise backdash. it is invincible for a very long time and can be used to dodge projectiles as well as set up 360/720 punishes. personally i think we should turn backdash-720ing overagressive Jins into an olympic sport.

I’m not exactly an expert, but I hope this helps.

Ive noticed that even though taeger is one of the worst characters in the game. People enjoy playing him.

That’s because Tager’s not the worst character in the game because he just loses to everyone- Tager’s got winning matchups and even matchups and outside the top I think his worst disadvantage is… what, 6-4? 6.5-3.5 maybe (I forget how bad Jin is)

It’s that his top tier fights and Carl are near-impossible because of Tager’s horrible mobility. He has no safe way to get close on Nu. Arakune is doable until he lands a curse… but landing a curse basically ends Tager’s chance to do anything except for Block, Barrier, Burst, and Die. He has no way to get out of frog setups once Rachel gets a knockdown that doesn’t let Rachel get a free re-knockdown if she sees what he’s pulling, since he has no way to get anywhere quickly on wakeup. And he’s both the easiest character to do the Clap Trap on AND the easiest to catch in it- so much so that Carl’s matchup has been moved PAST the horrible rating of Arakune’s “Once I curse you, you don’t get to play the game for the rest of the round” matchup.

It’s just those four fights- against everyone else he’s a solid, really playable character… but in BlazBlue, that’s a third of the cast, and four of the top half of it besides. It’s largely the same issue in all of them- Tager can’t get close without risk, while they can stay away without taking many risks at all until they got Tager where they want him.

I think it is because he is probably one of the most fun hybrid grappler characters ever created. I mean sure there have been good ones before but the satisfaction of landing one of Tager’s moves and combos make for an interesting playing experience.

it’s probably mostly because tager creates the illusion of having tools to deal with most situations, even though he doesnt.

It doesnt make sense for Tager not to have double jump. He’s normal attacks are too slow. especially C. I mean even Hugo, Potemkin and other big guys had good attacking speed. If his sledge can take maybe 2 hit normal attacks as well as projectiles he would be more fun imo.

I don’t mean to complain but I am a little frustrated with Tager in some of these match ups.

Okay, so after playing tager for a while I’ve found that the most fun thing to do so far is buffer the 720 from 623C in the corner (or anywhere). Especially after the BnB that gets them there.

Do the 623C after “whiffing” a throw combo into the corner and they think you fucked up, try to punish and BAM there’s a 720.

Did it to someone twice last night, I fucking ROFL’d every time.

I just bought the game today (Canada sucks Dx) And I’m maining Tager until the next tier list if there is another one because I pick the bottom…

Does Tager have any good approaches?

Yeah, Collider into 720 is pretty tasty. Thing is that it’s been rinsed so much that people see it coming. My best moment online so far was winning the first match but he got out of the collider into 720. Next round did collider, waited a sec for him to jump out, did another collider to reset the situation, then ticked the 720 off a blocked sledgehammer.

Good times :lol:

EDIT: Oh yeah, can anyone help with 2C into 2B -> Collider etc? I’m sure I’ve seen it done but whenever I try it out in training with quick tech on, the can get out after the elbow slam.

If you are talking about j.2C into 2B -> 2C -> Collider, it has to be a counter hit.

I generally RC the elbow in a match just to be safe, it’s definitely worth the damage + mag.

Although from what I understand you can get that from a lower elbow drop, does height matter or is it still CH no matter what?

Really close to the fround j2C doesn’t need counter hit to be comboed into 2B 2C, from some distance it can’t be done but you can 5B into 41236D instead.
Also close to the ground j2C RCed or CH against Rachel combos into 5C 6A 623C… for really high damage.
