Considering the overflow from this arguement has been spilling over into the hype thread (something Stephen and I specifically wanted to avoid by making this thread for rules) I’m going to address this XvSF situation again. Just to clear a couple of things up before I get started though:
-
In case this wasn’t obvious to everyone that lives in this country, my name is Justin Baisden and I organize (and have organized) the T tournament for what will be its fourth year. It appeared that some parties had no idea that I have been running the national for years now. I’m not sure how they missed it but that’s neither here nor there. I organize this event and my staff (managed and directed by Stephen “DarkDragon” Munroe) handle directoral duties for each of the gaming events.

This post has absolutely no bearing on the Slash macro situation that Stephen is currently discussing with the GG community. I am making this post to discuss the XvSF issue.
Now let’s get to the issue at hand.
It has been made abundantly clear on both sides of the coin that there is an issue with the way X-Men vs Street Fighter will be run at T8. There are parties who feel that this game should be run with the ability to use a keyboard and subsequently be allowed to use 3P/3K as part of their arsenal. The other side feels that the use of mapped buttons was never an intention of the designers and as such should not be allowed for use such that it takes away from the integrity of the game. Contrary to what some people have insinuated, I am not ignorant or dismissive of either side of the arguement. I don’t play this game and thus have no personal bias towards either arguement. Further to the point, I have no bias towards local players on the subject, despite accusations made to the contrary. I am only interested in creating the best situation for every party.
After considering both sides of the arguement and taking in suggestions from various players, the following decision was reached.
X-Men vs Street Fighter will run a mandatory double entry tournament.
Entry: $5 (non macro main tournament) + $2 (in macro side tournament)
Format: 2/3 Falls, Double Elimination, 3/5 Winners & Losers Finals, 4/7 Grand Finals
Pot Split: 70/20/10 (main tournament), 80/20 (side tournament)
Just so people don’t have to ask, I created a mandatory double entry tournament because the majority of people would just dismiss the other tournament and run whatever they wanted anyway, thus alienating the rest of the players who want to play at the best of their abilities (with macros). Furthermore, while the majority feel that macros take away the integrity of the game, it was never established that the game is unplayable by the majority as a result of macro use, and thus it is a matter of inconvenience rather than something insurmountable by non macro using players. As such, the majority will have their tournament with integrity intact for the bigger prize pool, the minority will get their chance to use their macros in the side tournament, and everyone in the community will get two tournaments instead of one for a discounted rate.
With that out of the way, I’m going to address something else as a whole that I’ve been seeing between this and the other T8 thread that I have no tolerance for and want put to rest right now.
Players taking it upon themselves to go over their directors heads or flat out telling directors how it will be.
Simply put, neither myself nor the T tourney staff is going to tolerate this from this point forward. The vast majority of the players attending this event are able (and should be able to) conduct themselves like adults rather than adolescents who throw a tantrum and crying until they get what they want. There is no game that will take place during T8 that wouldn’t have gone through myself & Stephen for approval and to the directors under his management specifically. I do not want to see players:
A) Telling directors what will and will not happen
B) Making bold statements about what they’re going to do when they get there
C) Insinuating that they will influence other directors and that other players will just have to fall into line
There is no game director on this staff that dictates policy for the actual tournament. They all end up going through Stephen and I at the end and while the majority of time their suggestions/comments are noted and approved of, there is no absoulte posotive to any director suggestion. No attending player has any say in how policy works. If the players were left to dictate policy, it would be chaos. That’s why you have directors in the first place.
If people want to dictate what they are and aren’t going to do to a tournament they aren’t staff in, they can run their own tournament at another venue and make up all the rules they want. Stephen and I agree that cancellation of any specific game is not beyond the realm of possibility if it means keeping order for the greater good of the event.
I’d like to see this XvSF issue ended with my post please. There are a lot of other games that could use discussion and we’d like to iron out what other side games people would like to have at T8 aside from XvSF. Also, please keep negative posts out of the hype thread. It only serves to alienate players that are on the fence about attending.
Thanks…
